The 7 Best Hostels in Berlin (Updated 2025)

"I go here when I want to party: the on-site bar gets lively and they run lots of drink specials (guests also get 25% off food), and while there isn't much other common space the bar becomes the best place to meet people. I had some really fun moments here, and the €7 daily breakfast buffet is especially welcome after a late night. The hostel is conveniently located near Alexanderplatz." - Matthew Kepnes

When I went to the hostel today to stay, I encountered an extremely uninterested woman at the reception who was not helpful at all. She answered every question I asked with "no" and gave no further explanation. She said I couldn’t go to the room. All I wanted was to take a shower after a long journey. I told her I didn’t even want to go to the room, just to use the shower. Even for that, she was barely willing to help. She refused to provide a towel. She was extremely rude. She reluctantly let me take a shower, but didn’t give me a towel. The showers were extremely dirty. There were used towels on the floor, and the shampoo bottles were empty. I only had a small backpack, and she didn’t show me any place to store it. I told her I already had a reservation and would be staying at the hostel in just 1–2 hours. Still, she didn’t assist me in leaving my bag somewhere. She constantly asked for money for everything. After taking a shower without a towel and even after paying, I left the hostel. I did not stay. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I hope someone teaches the receptionist that she is supposed to help people. The only word the receptionist seemed to know was: NO. No thank you

The hostel is in a great location, and the staff was polite and attentive. The rooms were clean and nice, and the hallways leading to the rooms were filled with small cards about the city. There are recommendations in the card which tells you where to go and what to do in the city, and you can take them with you as a souvenir. Having its own pub and events is also fun. It offers a good and enjoyable experience for the price. I think there are similarly named hostels in other cities. I was very pleased when I tried the hostel in Berlin, and I'd definitely like to try their other hostels. Also there are discounts in pub for the guests.

We arrived to Berlin late and were told checking in would not be a problem. They had already set a great vibe for our trip. They have a great bar below the hostel with a great sociable atmosphere. They had set up a beer pong event and we attended with lovely staff making it so welcoming.

Stayed in Apartment 6 on the top floor. Quiet, clean with a great view and sunny balcony. The shower was strong and with fridge, stove and coffee making facilities made breakfast and evening drinks on the balcony calm and enjoyable. We really enjoyed our stay with all the restaurants and bars nearby and it was an easy stroll to the river, Palace, public transport and Alexanderplatz. We will be back.

No fridges or a common room for guests only. A lot of showers aren't working at all or properly. The doorstop in the room isn't well marked/soft, so I managed to break my toe. Hostel didn't have ice or any cream. I mentioned this to several staff members but no one really said they would do anything about it. If they were in the US, then they would already be served with a lawsuit. Staff is friendly but I didn't get the vibe that they were interested much in their guests and their experiences. They organize some events but I feel like the events organized in the Instagram group (created by travelers) connect many more people and bring the hostel extra customers from other hostels. Anyone can easily go up as the bar is connected to the hostel. I think more doors should be accessible with hostel card only. Men toilets stink really bad and are super warm. Luggage storage 6 euros per day which is pretty much half of how much the room costs per night. There isn't a common room, so they could allow people to drink their own drinks and eat their own food in the bar to be honest. Not sure why this is only allowed outside where it gets cold in the evening. Rooms are deep cleaned every day including the matraces.

Great location and somewhat social hostel but that's pretty much it for the pros. The bathrooms don't have any way to hang up your clothes while you shower so you have to put your stuff on the ground or on the sink. The curtains on the lower level beds don't even close completely so you don't have full privacy. No microwaves for mixed dorms so you have to eat out for every meal or buy food that doesn't require any heating like sandwiches - harder to travel on a budget here.

This hostel is great and I would reccomend it to everyone. The rooms, beds, bathroom and kitchens are clean. I stayed in a 6 bed female room and it was lovely, everyone was so nice. Check in is easy. The bar below is always bustling, but you can’t hear a thing from the rooms. They do daily hostel activities there at 7.30pm, but I didn’t take part. A nice idea if it’s your type of thing! I would 100% return. Train station on the doorstep literally, easy to get too and everyone is friendly. Also feels very safe as a solo female traveller.

Up from 1 star because the staff were very nice and breakfast was quite good for a hostel. There was a group of gents that came into the room three separate times between 10 and 11 p.m. to try and convince their friend to go out drinking. They seemed to be other hostel guests, but they were not even a little bit quiet during this process... three times. I woke up to an absolute mess of a room in the morning. Clearly I understand the hostel cannot control their guests, but these still negatively impacted my stay. For things the hostel can control: the wifi was quite slow and the advertised price for the luggage storage lockers next door didn't match the actual cost despite the hostel setting the price themselves. Some of the bathrooms were not in good shape.
