The 7 Best Hostels in Berlin (Updated 2025)

"I go here when I want to party: the on-site bar gets lively and they run lots of drink specials (guests also get 25% off food), and while there isn't much other common space the bar becomes the best place to meet people. I had some really fun moments here, and the €7 daily breakfast buffet is especially welcome after a late night. The hostel is conveniently located near Alexanderplatz." - Matthew Kepnes

I paid around €25 for two people, which is a great price, and the hostel itself is honestly very cute. The lobby, the bar area, the overall vibe — all of that looks lovely. The location is also great, with lots of nice cafés and things to do nearby. However, I cannot recommend the large mixed dorms. They are extremely loud and very poorly sound-insulated, and your experience fully depends on the people you end up with. In my case, I had to share a room with someone who appeared to be using drugs and behaved extremely inappropriately. At one point he was clearly engaging in sexual activity in his bed, the whole bunk was shaking, and because the room is so thin-walled and echoey, you could hear everything — including his noises. It was disturbing, I felt unsafe, and sleeping was impossible. This wasn’t my first hostel experience in Berlin — I’ve stayed in another one before where my roommates were all men, which felt a bit uncomfortable but at least they were respectful. Unfortunately, this time I didn’t have that luck at all. To be fair, the hostel does offer two-person rooms, and I would strongly recommend choosing those. If I ever come back, that would be the only option I’d book. I would not stay in the large dorms again after this experience.

This hostel is very mediocre. The rooms are very basic, the pillows are too be desired, the saving grace is that the bunks do have curtains. There is not enough toilets for the whole floor, and mine was absolutely filthy for one day so clearly was not being cleaned. The showers however are plentiful and actually have high pressure. There is no kitchen, which to me, is really poor for a hostel. If no kitchen is provided water refill should be available on each floor of the hostel and not just at the bar... Staff are again bang average. Not unpleasant individuals but nore are they particularly welcoming souls. It's one of the cheapest hostels in berlin, so you do get exactly what you pay for- the bare minimum. The general atmosphere isnt crazy social, but my visit falls in low season so again this is expected. Could be a hoot in the summer? Location is ideal for exploring the city, so for a few nights stay its not too bad (if your willing to eat out of supermarkets or eat out every day) but definitely dont be expecting the Ritz lol.

I arrived at the hostel in Berlin at 11:00 AM and was informed that check-in was not yet possible. I waited in the lobby until 1:00 PM, when I was able to check in and received my access card and assigned bed. I went upstairs to see the room, but upon arrival, I noticed that the bed was still not clean and had another person's belongings on it. I returned to the room at 2:14 PM to check again, since I already had the access card, but the bed still had belongings on it. At 3:04 PM, after the check-in time had passed, I went upstairs again and found the guest's belongings still on the bed that had been assigned to me. I went downstairs again to inform reception and request a change of bed or room. The receptionist's response, however, was simply to go upstairs and push the other guest's belongings to the side of the bed, an action I considered quite inappropriate and rude. This approach caused me discomfort and could have generated conflict between me and the guest who was there before. A more appropriate solution would have been an immediate change of bed/room or prior verification of availability. __ the showers and bathroom cleaning for guests were very clean (the lobby smelled terrible). The guy in the bed next to mine seemed a bit crazy, grumbling and snoring loudly... a positive point is that there's a metro station right in front.

Well located Hostel surrounded by. Dining options for all budgets, entertainment and shops. A modest walk to Alexanderplatz Train station but adjacent to the U-bahn. Rooms large, basic and warm. Room 42 for women only had 2 o f 4 bunk beds occupied. There was a bathroom with bath and shower over plus 2 separate toilets with basins. Room 41 shared these wash facilities plus a huge kitchen, dining and lounge area.

Overall I would say this hostel was decent. The bar was nice and location was great. The beds were nice and the rooms were ok. It definitely is an above average priced hostel. My biggest issues were that the toilets were clogged the whole time, and my charging outlet didn’t work. One of the female receptionist was very nice, the other male wasn’t mean but blunt and nomchalant. Had a weird experience with the lockers as they don’t actually open and are broken so you have to go the reception to get them opened. I was confused the 4 euro charge and deposit as I thought I had paid it all up front but I suppose it’s not a big deal. I would like clarification on what the onsite fee and deposit were for as I still don’t really understand. They were very nice on my last day and let me charge my phone in the bar before going to the airport. The bouncer kept stopping me but that’s quite common as a poc for me unfortunately. Overall it’s ok but try to explore other hostels as well.

Really good hostel for the price. Stayed in a private 2 person room with my friend and it was plenty big enough for a couple of nights. The beds were a lot comfier than we expected. Despite the hostel being located above and accessed through a bar, we never heard any noise from our room and we were able to sleep well. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Me and my friend arrived a couple of hours before the check-in time but the staff let us complete the check-in process and gave us the key anyway so that as soon as “check-in” opened at 3pm we could go straight to our room and then they directed us to their locker storage area where we could leave our bags until the room was ready. We decided not to have breakfast at the hostel so can’t comment on what it was like but when we would leave the hostel during breakfast time everyone who was having breakfast seemed to enjoy it. I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Berlin and I will definitely recommend it to my friends and family if they fancy a trip over :)

Our stay at St. Christoph Hostel was disappointing. The rooms were simple and clean enough, but felt more like a dormitory or a cheap prison cell than a welcoming place to rest — bare walls, metal bunk beds, and little comfort.||The bathrooms and showers were downright disgusting the first night — I reported it three times, but nothing was done. We ended up using a café nearby just to find a clean toilet.||Breakfast was minimal at best, and downright poor on the last day: cheap toast, a few tiny portions of spread, and some unappealing fruit. The coffee machine tasted worse each morning and had a water filter error for days.||There was also a lot of noise at night — expected at a hostel, but worth keeping in mind. It might feel central, but Berlin’s transport system is so good that you can easily stay elsewhere and get a better experience.||On the positive side, the staff were friendly enough, but no one seemed responsible for maintaining basic hygiene.

The staff is really nice and very helpful. It all starts with «get your welcome drink». Well, that is at 19:30, or 20:00 as some other worker there said. Isnt the point of a welcome drink to get it when we arrive? ||Many people are social, but there is not many areas there to live the hostel life in the common areas, since it also is a open bar for the public. ||The elevator didnt work, toilets smelled really bad. Showers are, well lets say a few good once, but overall not good. My room was very quiet, but it had window towards a party street. So imagine 8 people sleeping in a small room with the windows closed. Moist!|Door knob fell off many times. ||It’s simply a hostel who needs a REAL makeover! ||For the price? Pay another 1-2 more euros per night and you would be able to find hostels with new pods. ||Would i stay there again? Cant see that every happening.

Yelp
When I travel alone I tend to get a little disorganized. So when I arrived in Berlin I had the address but not a reservation to stay here. I was lucky to find rooms to all my days, but because of availability (and economy) I ended up changing rooms and checking in and out everyday (for about 5 days). Despite what I said above I had a great time a St. Christopher's. The hostel is in a great location, just a few blocks from Alexanderplatz and right in front of a U-Bahn, and nly two blocks from a main avenue, where you can take the bus to the main Berlin train station. The hostel is very big, so lots of floors and rooms. In the main entrance they have a bar, which is open to the general public - don't worry you will meet some cool locals that come hang out here and meet the tourists. Also, breakfast is included in your rate and it's also served at the bar. The rooms are comfortable - I tried 3 different options. I personally liked the 6 people rooms better, as I found the bed nice and it wasn't so noisy. One night I spent at the 12-people room and to make it more private they have curtains in each bed, but I felt very claustrophobic sleeping inside them. Staff is nice and helpful, and if you are up to a Free Walking Tour they come pick up groups in the hostel, just check the brochures at reception.

Yelp
What can I say, I love St. Christopher's. I've stayed twice at the one in London and when I was heading to Berlin it was at the top of my list. I stayed in "Apartment 1" which meant I had my own bedroom and shared a kitchen and bathroom with just one other occupant(s). When you've stayed at enough of the big hostels like this one, you're willing to pay 10 euros or more per night extra not to sleep with 20 other people anymore, hoping people don't turn on the lights at night or early in the morning, or make a ridiculous amount of noise, or swipe your stuff. Pay a little more and have your own place. Very friendly staff and great place. If you have to do some work - just beware that there is no internet in the room so you'll have to make do with the bar which is quiet between 10am and 2pm but noisy all other times. I've also never in my life walked out of a metro station and across the street to my hostel. AWESOME.

Yelp
I have stayed here a couple of times before I moved to Berlin, and they have always been super helpful to me! Even today when I needed WiFi, they lended it to me so thank you so much for that (side note, this is not a free-wifi-hotspot) but the staff is really cool here!

Yelp
The rooms are aight but my boi Yanko gives banging mojito classes. Give the man some euros if you can.

Yelp
I don't know why this Hostel doesn't have the full 5 stars. I had such an amazing experience staying here for a weekend last winter. The staff were so nice during my check in and check out process, they were really accommodating when I had difficulty with my ID. The rooms are also very nice and gives each bed privacy. We were busy the entire weekend so we didn't stay inside too much, but they had a nice lounge area with games and even a bar/restaurant with nice deals. The location was not too bad, we were able to get a bus from the train station that stopped about less than a 5 minute walk from the hostel, then we were able to walk to all the big sites after. St. Christopher's Inns will definitely be my hostel of choice whenever I return to Berlin.

Yelp
This hostel is located in a great location, only a short walk from Alexanderplatz, which is a central hub in the city. You can get to anywhere from here. But you don't have to jump onto the U-Bahn to find a great bar or shopping area nearby. We stayed in a private double and it was both clean and adequately furnished. The bathrooms are cleaned very often and I never had to wait very long for a shower. The staff is pretty friendly, although they employ a lot of people and you won't bond with a particular staff member as you might in smaller hostels. The only fallback is that although the hostel itself has a quiet policy after 10pm, there's a noticeable amount of street noise from neighboring bars. And with no air conditioning in the hostel, this might not be a good place for light sleepers during the summer months. On a related note, the bar on the first floor (Belushi's) does NOT produce enough noise to seep into the rooms. Secondly, there is no wi-fi in the rooms. You have to go to the community lounge area for wi-fi. Although, I suppose this is a nice way of forcing people to get out of their rooms and socialize. There's also an AWESOME doner kebab place on the same street called Curry 40. I'll have a review for that place coming soon.

Yelp
As far as most hostels go, I don't have any complaints. They have a free breakfast included in the stay. Guys and girls bathrooms are separate. Depending on the rooms, I was pretty shocked that though there are 18 people in a room. You wouldn't really know. Rooms are space well. Not that far from a lot of the attraction and really close to the subway. The food is pretty decent compared to the price. For the value, I am definitely a fan.

Yelp
I would highly recommend staying here if you're looking to spend a couple days in Berlin. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and well-kept. Both my friend and I got private rooms, which were adequate sizes. They have a bar downstairs that is a great way to meet people in the area. At night it gets packed with young tourists and rowdy locals looking to party. I would suggest going to other local establishments for food, but they do offer a full menu if you're hungry and don't feel like leaving. It is walkable from many fun areas with bars and restaurants, and is across the street with a subway station, allowing for easy city and airport access.

Yelp
This is a HUGE hostel. If you're not familiar with St. Christopher's, they are a chain of hostels. They have a sports bar in most if not all of them and it is really a party hostel. I stayed for a night and left for a different place as this was not my scene. I stay in hostels because its a great way to meet fellow travelers, but thats just it. I want to meet fellow travelers and not just fellow drunks. Don't get me wrong, in Berlin, I was out until 6am every morning dancing and partying, but I was awake at 11a to go hit the street. Many staying at these hostels are just wherever they are to party, though that is not entirely the case. St. Christopher's is a very nice hostel, the amenities are solid, they have a bar in the hostel but again, the kind of crowd it attracts is just not for me.

Yelp
This hostel is really cool, great place to hang out and the place is extremely clean. Only reason why they don't get 5 stars is due to one of the bartenders being rude. Other than that my stay was pleasant.

Yelp
I was surprised with the hotel quality. It's extremely close to the Alexander Platz (5 minutes walking), there is a cool bar with affordable food and beverages downstairs, and the acomodados are comfy and clean. The sound isolation on the walls is not that great, so if this is a matter for you, try to get a room close to the back corridors.

Yelp
Stayed here one night. Good experience, free wifi and breakfast! My room was great, the dorm style room had curtains for privacy. My friend was placed in another room which had traditional style bunk beds and was not quite as private. Clean sheets and bathrooms.

Yelp
This is an awesome hostel. I've been to many hostels and this one ranks at the top of my list because it is clean, colorful, and comfortable. The rooms are spotless, the bar is poppin downstairs, but the walls are thick enough that you get a good nights rest. It is a litte bit pricey if you compare it to a cheap hotel, but if you're a single or young traveler looking to make new friends this is the place to be.

Yelp
Great location near Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. Bathrooms and showers are surprisingly spatious and clean. It was a busy weekend so I actually had to book a different room each night. I found the rooms for 2 were of the best quality. The 4 room dorm was a lot more shabby. It would be lovely if this hostel had a separate lobby just for reservations but instead it's in the rowdy sports bar. Overall, service was great and their free breakfasts can't be beat.

Yelp
This hostel is also a Belushi's Bar and it lives right outside the Rosa-Luxemburg Platz U-Bahn station making it a choice spot for complete Berlin convenience. Other plus points are that it is reasonably cheap, is open 24 hours, includes linen and breakfast in the price and free walking tours pick up from the hostel. Negative points include the fact that some Australians had sex in the room I was attempting to sleep in and then their friends caught them and had a jolly time mocking them very loudly until the wee hours, oh and there are no lockers in the room. Overall a very decent hostel, clean, hospitable and very nicely located, just avoid amorous antipodeans if possible.

Yelp
Rooms were great, showers were decdnt but the bar is magnet for every anglophone in Berlin. I like football and rugby games, but when the reception is overrun by 500 Ireland supporters it's a bit annoying. I wish there was a space for hostel-goers to be besides their room or a packed bar.

Yelp
Loved this hostel! We stayed in one of the apartments and it was massive. There was a full kitchen, the bathroom was huge, lots of extra living room space and comfortable bed. The hotel bar was convenient for dinner/drinks and the staff was really friendly. It's literally right next to the metro so it's really convenient. I would definitely recommend staying here.

DAN G.

Yelp
Stayed here when I backpacked Europe in 2008 and loved this hostel! Very clean, staff was friendly, and the free breakfast was good enough to take advantage of in hopes of saving some money. Its in a pretty good area in terms of places to grab a drink and with the UBahn right in front, it was very easy to get somewhere. I'm definitely staying here again when I come back to Berlin

Nolan S.

Yelp
The place is cool their security guys are the worst I've ever seen. They shake hands with drug dealers who offer you cocaine outside yet yell at you for waiting outside while drinking a beer you got from down the street. I'll say again the facility is cool but those security guards leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.
