Where to Stay in London When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Right by Borough Market, this budget hostel is lively and social with an outdoor terrace and many events (beer pong nights, musical performances), and it pioneered cozy pod‑style beds that I found surprisingly comfortable." - Matthew Kepnes

The 8 Best Hostels in London (Updated 2025)

"As a big party hostel near Borough Market (and a short walk to the London Eye and Tower Bridge), I enjoyed the outdoor terrace, regular beer pong nights, musical performances, and the many social events that make it easy to meet people. It was the first London hostel I saw with cozy pod-style beds—they're actually super comfortable and gave me one of the best sleeps I had in the city." - Matthew Kepnes

I was really impressed with this hostel. The bar is lively, the food is surprisingly good, and the location is perfect for walking around and exploring. The only thing that threw me off a bit was the layout inside the hallways are a little confusing. It took me a moment to track down the common room on the third floor; you have to turn right, then left, and go through two corridor doors before you finally get there. The laundry room is in the same spot as well. Still, for the price, it’s honestly better than expected. Great value overall, and the breakfast buffet is a huge plus.

Diabolical experience. Website states 3pm check-in. I arrive at 2pm, just wanting to leave my bag with them, which most decent hostels do. Lockers are coin payable. All good, I'll hang in the bar. I'm told wait 30mn, I can check you in. I'm then told another 15mn. Come 3pm I'm told it's 3:30pm and I need to download an app to access the building and room. Cancelled. Respectfully I'm all for technological advances, but to force a guest to need an app to access what they've booked isn't it, at least have the option of a classic keycard. Doesn't even include a towel. The aussie at the bar was cool though. Stick to PubLove when in London guys.

First time staying here. We would have liked to rate it a 4 star as service was excellent. Great bar right on location with live music and fabulous atmosphere. Safe place for lone travellers. Clean building. The showers were ok a little tight though but hot water and cleaning to efficient standard. Unfortunately our room was number 400 so we were situated up a lot of Victorian steep stairs and the lift was out of order! This was an absolute no when carrying luggage. Due to the inconvenience we missed breakfast because it was too much of an effort with the lack of lift . Liked the bar a lot and the employeess were really friendly and helpful. We hope they are on a decent salary. We would return but only if the lift was in action .

Unfortunately, my stay at this hostel was disappointing. The staff were not friendly and seemed to only care about doing everything quickly rather than helping guests properly. At check-in, they forced me to install their app, even though it’s possible to get the room code on paper. The Wi-Fi in my room was very poor, so I had to use my own mobile data (LTE) the whole time. When I wanted to extend my stay, I messaged them through the app. They told me I could either book again on the website or come downstairs, and they would handle it quickly. However, when I went to the reception, they told me to do it online instead — very unorganized. I also booked two nights with breakfast, but during check-in, no one gave me a breakfast voucher. The next morning, I was not allowed into the breakfast room because I didn’t have the voucher. After checking, they realized it was their mistake but still said it was my fault for not asking for it. The rooms are very small, and there were no events or activities, even though they advertise social events. On the first night, a fire alarm went off, and the staff were already outside. No one took care to wake up or guide the guests — the only thing they did was collect all the towels afterward. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hostel. The service, communication, and organization were all poor.

I booked the pod for a night the price was affordable, bathroom and toilets were clean even the shared ones. Great place for solo travellers like myself. Tesco and Sainsbury's at doorstep to buy affordable meal deals and 2 mins from the borough market and the shard. The staff were excellent and the service was great. If looking for a place near london bridge I would highly recommend this. Plus they have a bar downstairs little bit on expensive side but can be enjoyed.

stayed here for 4 nights in a 9 bed mixed dorm. the dorms were relatively clean but had some staining on the privacy curtains. the beds were comfortable for a hostel. the bunks however are very rickety and make a ton of noise and movement anytime someone moves. there are big lockers in the rooms that you can put your own lock on which is great. the bathrooms were cleaned often but there were roaches in them. however there are tons of shared bathrooms/showers available on the floors along with a few single bathrooms without showers. the rooftop patio had a few mice running around and the door to inside is often left open…not the greatest sign, but there was a few picnic tables to be able to sit at. not much common area except for the bar which from my experience seemed underwhelming to say the least. my biggest complaint is the lack of kitchen, but there is a microwave and kettle which helped somewhat. overall not the best, not the worst.

The absolute worst hostel I've ever stayed at in my entire life. I arrived at at around 9 in the morning and I'm aware that most hostels do not allow checking in before 2-3 in the afternoon because they have to get the beds ready etc. Fair enough, I have no problem with that. What I (and most other people) DO have a problem with however, is when a place charges GUESTS money to leave their bag(s) just sitting in a room before checking in (or after checking out). Explain to me exactly what resource of yours it uses up, for me to leave my bag(s) inside a room. Literally no other hostel I've ever been to (and I've been to many) has ever charged me or any other guest money to leave a bag just sitting in a store room so that you don't have to carry it around everywhere before checking in or after checking out. It's not like I'm just some hobo off the street who wants to dump my stuff in there. I'm actually paying money to stay in your establishment, which should automatically entitle anybody who is staying there, a place to leave their bags before being allowed to check in. I went down to the bar on what was meant to be my last night here to use my "FREE BEER" voucher and took a look at what was available on tap and ordered a pint of Stone & Wood, just to get that little taste of home again after two years of being away. I then handed the Aussie bartender chick my voucher who then told me that I couldn't get this beer with the voucher so I said "What do you mean?" and she said that you can only get a half pint of Foster's (one of the worst beers in existence) or a half pint of cider with it. So I just said "But it says here "Free beer". Where does it say that it only entitles you to either one of those two drinks?" and she just replied with "Those are just the rules", so I replied with "Why don't you print that on there then instead of just the words ‘FREE BEER voucher’?". Then this other 21 year-old looking white chick with black hair behind the bar with an attitude who I wasn't even talking to said to me "Maybe you should ask what the T&C's are", to which I replied with "Do not tell me what I "SHOULD DO". I'm not obliged to do anything. You printed the words "FREE BEER" on your vouchers, so YOU as a business should be more specific with what you sell and/ or give". So I just paid for the pint of Stone & Wood after all that, then had a few more drinks. I went out to the front door because they close the door between the bar and the lobby after hours and tapped on what I thought was the button for the main door on the stupid app you have to download and tried to open it but it wouldn't open, so I gave it a little jiggle and then the brain deficient chav at the reception started going off his fallopian tubes at me just for failing to open the door. He then came over, opened it and started challenging me, even after I apologised and said that I accidentally tapped the button for the wrong door, but he started acting like he wanted to fight me, so being the bigger mature person I am, I just tried walking away from a potential fight but he then grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards him and told me that he was kicking me out of the hostel, regardless of me not even posing any threat. He also said that he would REFUND me for the remaining day(s)/night(s) that I was meant to be there, which never happened. So there he was, going off like a sheikh seeing somebody eating pork and forced me to go and pack up my bag and get out. He literally pushed me up the stairs, turned the light on in my room and yelled while everybody in there was asleep, telling me to hurry up while I was trying to be quite and not disturb others who were sleeping out of pure courtesy and respect, unlike him. So then I was kicked out in the middle of the night for no reason whatsoever with absolutely no place to go and even after I left and was waiting outside for a bus, he came outside and continued to hail abuse at me. It literally took me ALL night, until 6 in the morning to find another place to stay. I'd rather go to prison than stay here again.
