St Esteve of Andorra Church

The Church of St. Stephen is a remarkable historical site in the heart of Andorra la Vella. Dating back to the 11th century, it showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The semi-circular apse, the largest in the country, and the bell tower are notable features. Inside, visitors can admire a 12th-century wooden altarpiece and several Baroque altarpieces. The church's serene atmosphere offers a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city.

The church was built in the 11th-12th century in a Romanesque style. It has been restored a number of times over the centuries, most notably in the 20th century. The church retains its original Romanesque semi-circular apse, the largest in the principality, and 12th century altarpiece. Restorations were made in the 1940s by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who remodelled the bell tower and side entrance.In the 1960s, a new nave was constructed. The church is registered in Andorra's register of cultural monuments - known as "Bé d'interès cultural.Its very beautiful from inside and quite big too.🙏🙏

St. Esteve Church in Andorra la Vella is a lovely, old stone building with a small bell tower that shows off Andorra’s historic style. Inside, it feels peaceful and quiet, making it a nice escape from the busy town around it.

Beautiful cathedral. Would love to have attended mass here and thought I could at the posted time (11am and 12pm on Sundays and holidays of which today is both a Sunday and Andorran National Day [Mare de Déu de Meritxell]. You need to visit Our Lady of Meritxell for the proper mass and festivities on this day). Instead, I read through the missal on my own and enjoyed the tranquility on this beautiful day.

It is Romanesque in origin (12th century) and was considerably modified in the 20th Century.

Very neat old stone church in the downtown. Stop by if you are visiting. Peaceful spot.
