Cheap Beach Vacations in Florida

"On the Forgotten Coast, this largely undeveloped 22-mile barrier island moves at a slower pace, prized for shelling, bird-watching, lighthouse exploration, and exceptional beach stargazing at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park; sea turtle nesting at dawn is common in early summer. A local ordinance limiting buildings above three stories has preserved the low-rise, tranquil character, and nearby eats include Paddy’s Raw Bar (many oyster preparations and a well-balanced shrimp salad sandwich) and longtime favorites like Aunt Ebby’s Ice Cream for families." - Carrie Honaker Carrie Honaker Carrie Honaker is a Florida-based writer who has hauled oyster cages off the Forgotten Coast of Florida, made Guavaberry Liqueur with a 7th generation distiller on St. Maarten, and stomped cacao pods in Grenada. 10 Best Islands in Florida, According to a Local

"For something a bit different from the usual Florida routine, head to St. George Island, an uncrowded, 28-mile retreat in the Gulf of Mexico just off the northern Florida Panhandle. Don’t expect a buzzy hot spot — the quiet vibe is protected by low-density zoning laws and strict building height restrictions. There are no high-rises or gimmicky chains here, and the residents want to keep it that way. Plan to stay in one of the island’s two inns or book a beach cottage for a tranquil trip on Florida’s Forgotten Coast." - Travel + Leisure Editors

St. George Island in Florida is a beautiful and peaceful beach destination. The beach area is stunning—clean sand, clear water, and not overly crowded, which makes it perfect for a relaxing day. I also appreciated the convenient and well-maintained parking, which made access easy. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots for a quiet coastal getaway!

The island has is beautiful, and has a lot to offer. Lots of rentals, very little commercial businesses, yet it does have some local shops and restaurants. Blue Parrot is one of my favorite spots to get great food with an amazing view. Island Outfitters, The Sweet Emporium, and the Piggly Wiggly Grocery store help make your stay worth it. Several businesses have golf cart rentals, as well as bicycles, kayaks, and more. Its a quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem.

Never even stayed. Tried to stay at 320 Land St on St George Island and was not what it shows the place is. It's an eye sore and musky basement smell when you walk in the place. If you are looking to rent a place, stay away from this residence.

We've been going at least once per year for 15+ years... Your blood pressure drops as soon as you cross the bridge... But be prepared to entertain yourself - is not for those with vacation agendas

Nice island beautiful beaches mostly pet friendly The bad is food options on the island most of the restaurants are tourist trap type small portions high price average food, I did like the blue parrot other than that just go back to the main land to eat

One of the best “Old Florida” vacation areas you’ll find on the Gulf. The beaches have plenty of space and aren’t overcrowded with tourists. Dog friendly beach and restaurants for your furry friends. This is the perfect place to get away from the over developed and expensive FL beaches that are becoming all too common.

I've been vacationing here my whole adult life. Now, bringing my grandchildren. There are a lot of places to stay. Used to be a local secret, the forgotten coast, but now #1 beach destination in the US. We are going to miss the quiet beach days.

We really liked St. George Island. The public beach access was well maintained and the showers were working nicely. The play grounds were fun for the kids as well. The sand on the beach was nice and white but there was the typical sea weed debris. We went on a red flag day and the waves were big but still fun for adults to play in. The littles could get smashed if not careful. Bring a life jacket for them.
