"For something a bit different from the usual Florida routine, head to St. George Island, an uncrowded, 28-mile retreat in the Gulf of Mexico just off the northern Florida Panhandle. Don’t expect a buzzy hot spot — the quiet vibe is protected by low-density zoning laws and strict building height restrictions. There are no high-rises or gimmicky chains here, and the residents want to keep it that way. Plan to stay in one of the island’s two inns or book a beach cottage for a tranquil trip on Florida’s Forgotten Coast." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Nice island beautiful beaches mostly pet friendly The bad is food options on the island most of the restaurants are tourist trap type small portions high price average food, I did like the blue parrot other than that just go back to the main land to eat

The epitome of the forgotten coast area Classic, retro feel. Modern enough with charm of old Florida. Folks bemoan the rising prices and many out of towners (of which I am one), but we keep putting $ into the FL panhandle economy with multiple trips per year. This is overall a happy place and worth a visit. Crazy busy in peak season and high prices to match.

We come here every December and love it. Quiet and peaceful - a true paradice!

One of the best “Old Florida” vacation areas you’ll find on the Gulf. The beaches have plenty of space and aren’t overcrowded with tourists. Dog friendly beach and restaurants for your furry friends. This is the perfect place to get away from the over developed and expensive FL beaches that are becoming all too common.

A peaceful and beautiful place, no fast food places. My favorite place on earth. The state park is fantastic. Never crowded and beach for miles.

We really liked St. George Island. The public beach access was well maintained and the showers were working nicely. The play grounds were fun for the kids as well. The sand on the beach was nice and white but there was the typical sea weed debris. We went on a red flag day and the waves were big but still fun for adults to play in. The littles could get smashed if not careful. Bring a life jacket for them.

Beautiful Island without the mayhem of Panama City or Destin. Beautiful beaches and a great state park that has 3 large pavilions, a couple of boat ramps, a camp ground and miles of beach and bay side for fishing, shelling, nature watching or just walking. The admission to the park is just $6 per car. There are several small stores and restaurants available. There is a long fishing pier on the bay side. There are several boat rental places and fishing charters available. Lots of free parking available for the public beach.

I've been vacationing here my whole adult life. Now, bringing my grandchildren. There are a lot of places to stay. Used to be a local secret, the forgotten coast, but now #1 beach destination in the US. We are going to miss the quiet beach days.
