St George Lycabettus Hotel (Athens, Greece) 6 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Athens has some impressive hotels, but the St. George Lycabettus stands above them all — at least literally it does, from its rather spectacular vantage point halfway up Lycabettus Hill, with a view straight across at the Acropolis (and over most of the rest of the city besides). This kind of real estate is obviously highly desirable — the neighborhood is the ritzy enclave of Kolonaki, where most of the city’s best museums and boutiques are located." - Tablet Hotels

Where to Stay in Athens When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"If you want to splurge, St. George Lycabettus is a luxe five-star with ultra-spacious, stylish rooms full of natural light; many rooms have balconies and some boast panoramic Acropolis views, rooms and bathrooms feature marble accents, and the hotel offers AC, minibars, super-fast Wi‑Fi, a fitness center and a spa/wellness center." - Matthew Kepnes

Yes, this is undoubtedly the best hotel in Athens. It perfectly combines understated luxury, old-world charm, and contemporary design.|We loved its prime location in the heart of Kolonaki - close enough to the city center yet blissfully away from the crowds. Facing the lush Lycabettus Park, the hotel offers views that are truly breathtaking. The rooftop pool deck, with its sweeping panorama of Athens, is simply unmatched.|Service throughout our stay was exceptional - warm, attentive, and discreet. Dinner at the 6th-floor restaurant was a memorable highlight, both for the cuisine and the stunning cityscape. Breakfast was equally impressive, generous in variety and quality, on par with top international luxury brands.|Frankly, this hotel ranks among my top 10 worldwide. A true gem in Athens, where timeless sophistication meets modern comfort.

A lovely spot in Kolonaki near Lycabettus Hill. Actually on the side of the hill! The views from the restaurant on the 6th floor and pool & bar on the rooftop (7th floor) are unmatched! You can see all over Athens from St. George’s chapel on Lycabettus Hill to the Acropolis to the Aegean Sea! The staff here were very hospitable and efficient. We had all breakfasts and one lunch and dinner at the restaurant here and the food was excellent. Breakfast buffet was outstanding with a large selection of hot dishes, eggs cooked every way, lots of bread, pastries, fruit and vegetables. My husband and I were very happy here. The only complaint I had was the noise late at night on the streets outside our balcony. On Friday night people were still partying at 3:30am. This of course is not the fault of the hotel, but I didn’t sleep well one night. |This hotel is a gem!

St George was a lovely stay with the most amazing rooftop view overlooking the entire city and a clear shot of the Acropolis. The place was clean and the included breakfast was stocked with plenty of great options. Be prepared to taxi or brave the hill to and from many of the main city attractions. The rooms were lovely enough but not very well insulated so you could hear a lot of hallway or neighboring activity.

We had a fabulous stay at this property. I believe it is located at a higher elevation than any other property in Athens. This allows for a fantastic view of the city, the Acropolis, and the sunset. The property is clean and updated. The breakfast buffet was excellent, offering a wide variety of choices. We would not hesitate to recommend this property for your next stay in Athens.

Saying goodbye to this Hotel was hard! We had such a nice stay - every member of the staff was so friendly, the breakfast included delicious Greek specialties, dinner was an experience- and the views!!!! The view from our room just begged to be looked at over and over, morning/noon/sunset/and evening. The location was a perfect blend of city elegance and forest environment. We felt like we were in the best Hotel in Athens! Thank you SGL!

This hotel stay took place in mid-September 2025.||I decided at fairly short notice to take a short late summer solo vacation to Greece, comprising 4 nights in Athens, followed by a couple of nights on nearby Hydra.||After the usual website searches, I settled on St George Lycabettus Hotel as being a good option in Athens. The rates for the days I needed were more competitive than other upmarket city-centre properties, the reviews were (on the whole) decent, it had the significant benefit of an attractive looking rooftop terrace with bar and pool, and was in Kolonaki, still within walking distance of the key attractions.||The best rates were with Agoda, with the lowest priced room being a “budget single room”, which I definitely didn’t want. Instead, I paid slightly more for “room assigned at check-in”. This was bookable for one or two persons, and gave the option ("subject to availability”) of requesting a room with either a large double bed, or two single beds; I chose the former. The total cost (including taxes and fees), for 1 person excluding breakfast, was just under GBP 200/night.||I checked into the hotel quite late, and was given the key to room 402. A small and odly shaped inside room, all a little “tired", with what seemed to be a small double sized bed against the wall, and one small window looking out into the internal space (I won’t call it a courtyard as it’s not accessible). A shower over the bath, one towel (!), and frankly quite cheap and poor quality bed linen. Nowhere to charge a phone within reach of the bed. Nevertheless, I thought it would "do the job", and settled in after grabbing dinner close by.||I hardly slept all night. Athens was hot, but not excessively so (daytime temperatures around 30C), but the air-conditioning unit was totally ineffective. This was an old floor/wall mounted unit that sat below the window, right next to the bed, and that was unbearably noisy. Opening the window did nothing; just stagnant warm air from the centre of the building.||I made the enormous mistake of spending a second sleepless night in this unbearable room, before requesting a room change the following morning, which was granted without any argument. In fact the receptionist basically said that Room 230 (and the same location room on some of the other floors) was unacceptable. Please see the attached floor plan. I also attach a photo of the “view” from 402. ||I was moved to room 230, an “Eco” room on the outside of the building with French doors leading to a small balcony. Not large or in any way fancy, but fresher in decor and ten times better. Opening the window at night now allowed cool and fresh air into the room.||I don’t need luxury, or an enormous room, or amazing views, but there is one thing that I absolutely require from any hotel room regardless of price, and that is to be able to get a reasonable night’s sleep. And this was supposed to be a 5* establishment. Totally unacceptable. Another thing that I’ve never before experienced in a five star hotel is not being able to charge anything to my room, to be settled at check-out. Not a drink by the pool, or even a breakfast, nothing; every single charge had to be settled there and then.||On the positive side, the location in Kolonaki is pleasant, but it should be noted that the hotel is VERY far up the steel hill, and is therefore probably unsuitable for anyone but the fit and healthy (unless happy to take taxis everywhere). And the rooftop pool area is lovely, with great views across the city to the Acropolis, and with very pleasant service at the poolside bar; great for the summer months.||I mentioned my experience with the first room to the reception supervisor when checking out. His response was “well you shouldn’t have booked a budget single” (I didn’t). An unacceptable way to respond to a guest.||With a bit of vision (maybe requiring a new GM?) this is a hotel that could be great. But it's let down in a number of areas, and the room I was given was frankly unacceptable.||Would I stay here again? Absolutely not.

A very honest review: Your experience at St George Lycabettus Lifestyle Hotel will be entirely dependent on 1: Which size room you choose 2: How much luggage you have 3: What kind of trip you are having I agree with the other reviews. This is not a 5-star hotel, yet it has a 5-star feel. Service: The hotel needs to support its staff better. Each person is doing the jobs of three people. They are clearly overworked and underpaid. I liked Katerina for her ability to put out a fire quickly, and Panagiota for her ability to smile and be calm in the face of a customer onslaught that she should not have to deal with entirely by herself. The food: I am a seasoned traveller. Everything from hostels, beach & jungle huts to 7* plus stays worldwide. The food was mezzo mezzo. The carpet in the dining room/ breakfast room requires reinstallation and reupholstery. The breakfast buffet requires revision. The owners need to check out the Aluma brand; for instance, the food at the Skylark is top-tier, and the breakfast buffet is second to none, yet they are a 4-star hotel in a less desirable neighbourhood of Athens. The rooftop terrace has been designed beautifully. It is the hotel's crown jewel… but it is lifeless and stuffy. They have an ice-cold pool for the hotter months, but no hot tub for the colder months. The rooms: The rooms are good… more of a 4-star feel, and you will need to go for a family room if you want any amount of normal space for two people. The furnishings are good, but they do not feel 5-star. There are no kettles available, so if you’re from the United Kingdom, give this one a miss as the evening charge for tea is 15 euros. The location: Athenians LOVE this area of Athens. It’s meant to be the most affluent neighbourhood of Athens, and sure… It’s a 26-minute walk from Plaka. Very quiet and cute and placed upon the hill of Mount Lycabettus. Walking down is no problem, but my 68-year-old mum required a taxi to take us home each night as walking back up is tough on the knees. I stayed in 3 hotels in Athens, and I preferred the more urban areas of the West, which is a contrary opinion. The Elevator: The elevator situation… which is deserving of its own section. There is an elevator which takes you to the rooftop. This is teeny tiny and broke twice in our 4-night stay. As mentioned before. The hotel is built into a hill which is charming, however, if you’re not a fan of stairs and steps within the hotel, you might want to give this one a miss. The internet: If you are a person who needs to work while away, you need to figure out your own internet, as the hotel internet just sucks. I don’t know a more elegant way to say it. It just sucksssss. I know you can do better than that guys. It's also worth noting that we left this hotel and went to another because we chose to… we didn’t leave Athens; we simply checked out and went somewhere else… Sorry guys. Revision in response to the hotel: We asked for a kettle every day. We were told that kettles are not available. The internet is terrible. Your staff are clearly fed up and tired. There are multiple reviews that span years back that mention the carpet in the dining room. I emailed twice since leaving for a receipt of something we bought and I have had no response. Most of your 5 star reviews are from people who have only used the spa at the hotel.

We stayed at the SGL for two nights before departing on a Windstar cruise. Our room was smaller by far than our room on the ship. There was a refrigerator under the desk that had a clear door and a light that never went off. My power converter didn’t work in any of the available outlets. It worked fine on the ship and in the other two hotels (Hyatt and Sofitel) we stayed in after the cruise. The food was very good and the dining and bar staff were very friendly.
