My experience with the companies on 4/11/22 terrible. I had a flight sch. through Delta on 4/11/22 @ 6:00 am. I've never flown out of St George airport, my friends & family live in the area, have used that airport multiple times. I brought my luggage to the ticket counter at 5:32 am. I was already checked in online & need to check my bag. I was informed from Jennifer that I was too late & need to take the next flight at 11:35 am I looked at my phone & said my flight isn't until 6:00 am, its only 5:32 am She said her system shuts down 30 mins before flights, I couldn't check my bag. Jennifer then, again, said she could switch me to the 11:35 am flight. I asked if I could just check my bag to be on that flight & I could go and get my bag at the Boise Airport upon arrival there. She said no I had to fly with my bag. I asked if I could gate check my bag like you do with a stroller, walker or wheelchair? She said they "don't do gate checks here". I asked if they expect mothers to carry their babies & carry on items through TSA without a stroller or the elderly are expected to walk without any assist device & she just reiterated that they don't do gate checks. I told her I would just put what I could in my carry on & throw my suitcase with what is left in it away. She told me it was too late for her to check me in, so I reiterated to her that I was already checked in online. She shut me down. I had to take the later flight. So she booked it, I sat there for 5.5 hrs while no other flights came in or out til 10:50 am. I'm assuming my seat was already given to someone on standby. In fact, I was offered previously to take $500 to be bumped to a later flight, how convenient they gave my seat away. Fast forward to 11:35 am flight status. The ticket counter opens roughly 1 hr 15 min before flight. The TSA lane opens about 1 hour before flight. Hoping everyone in line has no hiccups in checking in what happens if there are & you are in that line when 30 min. hit. Are all those people then denied & bumped to the next flight? There's no signage in the St. George airport or on their website that states bag check-in shuts down 30 mins before departure. I also checked the Delta website & the TSA website for rules on a 30 min deadline, nothing. While sitting, once through security, Jennifer (who is now the gate person in the back) gets on the intercom & announces "hello my name is Jennifer with Delta services to SLC, we will be flying in a CRJ Jet today & carryon area is smaller than those in normal jets, please bring your rolling suitcases & oversized backpacks up to be tagged for gate check"! Do not be misled that bigger planes fly out of St. George. I highly doubt the flight I was sch for was a larger plane. My frustration at THIS MOMENT, 5.5 hrs earlier SAME Jennifer tells me they don't "gate check baggage" at this airport, now the same Jennifer is announcing that they are & actually they MUST. On my second leg, Delta flight 3743 Dept SLC to Boise @ 1:40 PM it is announced that we are delayed for a passenger that is on a connecting flight from Amsterdam. I looked at my phone to check the time it was 2:15 pm & that man was finally boarding. I'm not sure where the 2 mins from the time I arrived for checking in my bag, but still 28 min from my flight departure time is different, in an airport small enough that when you walk in the front door the check-in counter is to the rt, rentals are to the left, TSA is straight ahead & you can see your airplane maybe 100' past TSAthrough windows NO ONE in line at TSA since there are only 2 flights in the AM & 1of those had already dept from the St George Airport & a plane full of passengers (on the SLC flight) at the gate waiting for someone 30 mins past the time the flight should already be in the air is justified. Who's rules we are looking at? Is it Delta that shuts down the system for checking in in an airport that it takes 2 mins to walk the entire airport? Would it have been too much to ask to have one of the outside guys that load the plane (which 3 of them walked through during my time at the counter) to take my bag & have it scanned in the back with the hand scanners they were using and tagging my bag so I could get on my plane? Or is it St George's airport rules. Who makes the decision that a passenger that isn't to their next gate on a connecting flight is is waited for (30 mins) or not? The passengers on the plane weren't asked if they were ok with it. Did any of them get bumped from a connecting flight because we waited for that person? very bad taste in my mouth both Delta Airlines & esp St George I personally hold Jennifer responsible for her poor attitude & misuse of power. It would be in the best interest of all parties involved to review her position & competency as a cust srv employee who reps any of the mentioned parties. Perhaps she doesn't belong in the travel industry & websites should have a clear stmt re this 30 minute rule.
