"To say St. George’s has a rough past is an understatement. It was christened as Notre Dame Catholic Church in 1670 by French Jesuits, then burned down by the English, who rebuilt it as St. George’s Anglican Church in the early 18th century. Over the next two centuries, the church sustained two more fires, plus multiple earthquakes and hurricanes. Like Lazarus, however, it couldn’t be kept down—it was rebuilt time and time again, most recently after being damaged by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Today, guests can visit to learn more about the church’s fascinating history, climb the bell tower, or even attend services."
Peaceful place as it should be, but horrible history. One christian denomination destroyed the church and build another christian denomination church. This is a result of colonizers. A burial site too, one or too of the tombs are falling apart. I tried to peak in, but couldnt see anything. A massive old tree, so beautiful, hug it if you are there for grounding. Nice location for sure, near everything.

I visited St. George's Anglican Church. It's peaceful and quiet. I felt calm and relaxed there. The church is a great place to reflect and unwind. I would recommend it to those seeking a peaceful retreat. It's a lovely place to visit.🤩

Very peaceful and nice gardens, it was open when wewent but very dark inside, no natural light. They say that you can climb the tower with a donation to the resident priests.

I try to visit here every year when my cruise ship visits just to see this place. It has become tradition to visit to see this place. Gorgeous building and cemetery grounds full of history…

The most beautiful church in Basseterre, free entry and very close to the port, easy to visit on a cruise stop.

Beautiful grounds and historic architecture, well worth the short walk from the port. The cemetery dates back to at least 1750. Friendly congregants on site will discuss the meanings of the architecture and symbols found throughout. Get out of the tourist trap and visit this lovely site.
