The 23 Best Places to Go in the U.S. in 2023

"In summer 2023 one of the original developers behind Minneapolis’ Hewing Hotel will open St. James Social. The 140-year-old building and former home of the historic St. James Hotel is getting a full rehab with a large lobby bar with oversized banquettes, eight beautifully appointed guest rooms, and a lake view rooftop bar."

Lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Bayfield. The rooms are cozy, beds comfortable with high quality nice sheets. Modern bathrooms. Wonderful renovation of an older building. There is an inviting bar area and nice nooks for dinner. Delicious dinner in their restaurant. We didn't take advantage of the sauna but will next time. Staff is amazing. The owner gave us a very warm welcome on our arrival and checked in on us to make sure our dinner was perfect! Easy self check in and check out with passcodes.

We had a fantastic stay at St. James Social!!! The rooms are so beautiful and unique. Ours even had a real record player! The decor is gorgeous. The sauna is just down the hall from all the rooms and is open for use 24/7. There is a coffee and tea bar that makes you feel right at home and a sweet continental breakfast was included in the morning. Unfortunately we did not get to enjoy the restaurant as it was not open on Monday night but we will definitely be back!

Dont worry youre not on the lake, you dont miss it! Every detail of this place is 1970s perfection with a modern touch. Coffee is 5 stars, free breakfast bar was delish with meat, cheese, fruits, yogurt, hard eggs, and granola. Beds clean & comfy. Loved the record player in the room and played it, took us back in time. How nice to play a vinyl record, watch it turn, soak in the soft moments provided there. The sauna was good, clean, hot, & stylish. The rooftop had all the views we needed of the lake. Star gazed up there too. The bartender invented a new drink for me, as Im sugar-free, the Cheshire Capp, cappacino & sake with a cherrywood bitters and heavy cream chaser. Food was great, had the wagu big mac. Check in & out by text, elevator was nice. Played chess in the bar lounge to groovy music on the turntable. It was a packed restauraunt, but they made us feel wanted and appreciated every time. Easy walk to the ferry & shops. Highly recommended.

From beginning to end, our meal and service was very good. Prompt, efficient and friendly staff, good ingredients, happy to make accommodations. While I would have preferred a cocktail, they are waiting on their liquor license and had a wide variety of beer, wine and fun other options including sake and cocktails made with champagne or involved NA cocktails. The caesar was very good (dressing on the side) and the pizza we had was a very good sourdough crust that was perfect for folding, Neapolitan style. So good!

We had a lovely overnight stay at the St. James Social. Brand new rooms and space. The public use sauna was a wonderful perk of the stay, and we were also able to enjoy the rooftop outdoor lounge area before the thunderstorm rolled in. Rooms are small but cozy, and little touches like a turntable and vinyl records made the experience feel special. For those who aren't tech savvy, the check in process is completely remote and registration was necessary before arrival. Although it was nice to be able to have access early, I did miss not having an actual person to talk to when we arrived. I would certainly stay at the SJS again in the future.

Exceptional accommodations! Loved the rooftop patio. The morning coffee bar/English style breakfast perfect way to start the day. The homemade pizza in the restaurant was incredible. We wished we could have experienced another meal there…next time :)

What a lovely place! We greatly enjoyed the wonderful hospitality, quaint feel and the charcuterie-like breakfast. The two that owns SJS even left a little treat for our celebration! We enjoyed the sauna both nights and the rooftop space - both wonderful. We also loved the food! Amazing flavors and the right amount of portions. We asked for a new sheets because it looked like dog hair was still on them. The owner seemed upset over the phone, but it was taken care of - so I went with 5 stars. Would 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner while we were traveling, the atmosphere + service couldn't have been better, our server was a friendly person and refreshingly great at their job. We had one of the best pizzas we have ever had, specifically the fluffy sourdough crust and also filet mignon tacos, we will definitely be back whenever we are in the area.

Yelp
Both pizzas we tried were very good (and were pizza snobs). The sourdough crust is . Inside is beautiful and our server was genuinely friendly. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
St. James Social is one of the newest destinations on historic main street that offers incredible hospitality, ambiance and the most delicious food! Offering craft espresso bar by morning, in the evening try their house made sourdough pizzas cooked to order Neapolitan style. Weekends offer elevated dining options in addition to their pizzas with a curated selection of craft beers, ciders, wine and bubbles. They also make house made mock tails and have a vinyl record lounge. You're welcomed by their friendly staff and feel like you never want to leave. Pro tip: bring a board game or hand craft to enjoy while you mingle, eat and relax. They also have boutique hotel rooms available with a sauna and rooftop lounge for hotel guests. A new favorite in a lifelong favorite destination!
