"Barbados is considered the most British of the West Indies, and its historic churches, which wouldn't be out of place in an English village, help it claim that title. On the site of olderchurches that were destroyed by fire and hurricanes, some dating as far back asthe 17th century, St. John’s Parish Church is an early-1800s dark stone Gothic gem. Though the earliest St. John's church was constructed in 1645, the one that stands today is largely from 1836, replacing a building destroyed by a hurricane in 1831. Its remarkable pulpit is made of ebony, mahogany, locust and other local woods. Many prominent figures are buried in the graveyard, whichhas views of the coast."

Our tour guide was taking us around the South/East coast for a day trip and brought us by this historic church. While it wasn’t initially on my list to see, I’m so glad he took us. It was Sunday so we got to pop our head in to see/hear a bit of the service. The grounds are incredibly beautiful. The architecture is grand. Walk through the cemetery in the back. There is a viewpoint by the sundial (also cool) with views of the east coast.

This historic church represents the Anglican tradition per the Church of England built in 1645. Over the years due to fires & hurricanes it was rebuilt - the fourth time around 1836. It is of pure Gothic design. Beautiful. Sits on top of a hill with lovely views. A big graveyard is at the back. Could use some attention and maintenance. Many great personalities are buried here. It is an active church.

We visited this historic parish church as part of an excursion offered by our cruise. It's located on a hill overlooking the Atlantic ocean and offers great views of the countryside. The stone church was built in 1660s to replace the wooden church of 1640s and has been subsequently being rebuilt due to damage from storms. The gothic architecture of the church is unique to this part of the world. Highly recommended to visit.

I had a chance to visit this church during my visit to Barbados. Beautiful church with some noteworthy tombs behind it. One of the tombs being that of the former prime minister of Barbados. There was a service going on so I was hesitant to go inside to avoid disturbing them; however, the priest that I met outside was very kind and friendly. The church grounds are well maintained. The building itself is beautiful
