"Give us the big picture—what's this beach all about? If you visit Melbourne and don't step foot on the St. Kilda sand, were you even there? This landmark is famous for its colorful bathing boxes that make it Insta-famous, but it's also a great spot for walking, rollerblading, wind surfing, and all matter of water sports. There's never a shortage of activity, so if you're looking for something secluded, this isn't the place. But it sure is great for people watching. Lovely. How accessible is it? It's quite easy to reach St. Kilda by public transport or by foot if you're an avid walker. Is it overwhelmingly crowded? There's plenty of public space on the beach. How are the facilities? You'll find heaps of bars and restaurants to enjoy the view with a glass of local wine from the Yarra Valley in hand. Is this the right spot for sunbathing or for splashing around? This is heaven for anyone wanting to indulge in the quintessential Aussie outdoor lifestyle—there' windsurfing, sailing, kitesurfing, rollerblading, beach volleyball, jet-skiing and waterskiing. You could lie out, too, but most people are getting in on some sort of action. Excellent. Can we go barefoot? Sure—it's a long, soft sandy stretch that goes on for nearly four miles. Anything else we should know? The water is regularly monitored by the local Environmental Protection Agency, and the quality is always fairly good. The wind can kick up—hence the wind surfers—but all in all, it's a great beach for all levels. Any must-sees? Stunning landscape and a very pleasant atmosphere. The wide promenade is perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling while enjoying the view. It’s a great place to spend time outdoors and feel connected to nature. The only downside is the limited number of benches and shaded areas, which would make the experience even better, especially on warmer days.

Loved our walk along the esplanade in St Kilda it has a real holiday vibe Too cold for the beach for me but there were people on the beach and in the water. Very brave. The Luna park and retro theatre add to the vibe .

Such a lovely atmosphere! The promenade along the beach is perfect for relaxing walks and the whole area feels calm and inviting. The main street nearby has plenty of cafés and places to eat, so it’s easy to stop for a drink or a meal after exploring. A really nice spot to spend a few hours by the coast.

Here you cand find a colony of wild penguins. Unfortunately I didn’t know, and arrived here just to see the beach, and the great surprise was to find that in evening you can watch them cleaning their feathers. There are tickets (for free but you need appointment) and you will be allowed to enter the observation area at sunset. Because me and my friends didn’t have, we waited there for 2 hours and the caretakers allowed us to enter at the end of the schedule. For me was the first time I saw penguins outside a man made enclosure so I was verry happy!
