Google
Some beautiful architecture at this free to enter cathedral after the over the top decor of the residence this was almost cathartic in its difference. The building was heavily damaged in the war but rebuilt superbly afterwards. Def worth a look

St. Kilian's cathedral is a must-see site to visit if you're touring the beautiful Bavarian city of Würzburg. The Romanesque architecture is magnificent, and the Baroque decoration of the ceiling of the nave is breathtaking.

A beautiful romanesque/baroque cathedral of St. Kilian. The pipe organ is magnificent. Listen to a concert if one is available.

Free entrance, everyone can light a candle (you can get one for a small price next to the statue of Mary) Beautiful interiors, combining historical and modern art.

Würzburg Cathedral (Dom St. Kilian) is an important church situated at the end of Domstraße that we very much enjoyed visiting during a recent stay in the city. The church is conveniently located near other interesting attractions and is well worth making time to visit while sightseeing in Würzburg Historically, it seems there have been church buildings upon these grounds since at least the mid 8th-century. However, the building you see today has gone through numerous rebuilds starting with the 11th century Romanesque church, Gothic additions and Baroque makeovers in later centuries. Heavily damaged during WWII air raids, St. Kilian was redesigned and rebuilt between the 1960s to early 2000s, providing the present church building that you see today. The Romanesque Revival style facade and its two front towers dominate the skyline as you approach along Domstraße. As you enter you find a nearly 100 metre long centre nave and two side aisles with an interesting mix of traditional, historic and contemporary sculptures, altars, ceiling frescos and stained glass windows. There are important tombs and epitaphs, a nice cloister and interesting things to view with the church. Allow 15-20 minutes minimum to walk through and see everything.

Beautiful church in the old town of Wurzburg - entrance is free, but check times of operation. Plenty to see both inside and outside, and can get some amazing views from the main road. Highly recommend going in if you have a chance.

Named after the martyred St Kilian, Würzburg's restored cathedral has an unusual mix of architectural styles. The original Church (actually the third on the site) was begun in 1040 and the main structure was completed in 1075. Further rebuilding was undertaken in the 12th Century and the cathedral was consecrated in 1187. The towers were heightened in the 13th Century and the side aisles were remodelled in about 1500 in the late Gothic style. The whole interior was transformed in 1701-4 by the stuccoist Pietro Magno who decorated the cathedral in Baroque stucco. Severely damaged in the 1945 bombing of the city, the restoration limited the stucco work to the choir and sanctuary and the south aisle. The nave reverted to a severely plain Romanesque with a flat wooden ceiling with a controversial modern painting. The cathedral is decorated by the memorials to centuries of the Prince-Bishops, together with a smaller number of those of the nobility and wealthy citizens. If the jarring interior is a little too much, the cloister's late gothic architecture is more conventionally harmonious.
