St Magnus Bay Hotel

We had lunch at St Magnus Bay Hotel and absolutely loved it. The location is picturesque — perfect for relaxing and taking in the views. The service was great and the food was really good too. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Hillswick. And while you’re there, make sure to check out the nearby seal sanctuary as well!

Absolutely marvellous stay. The room was clean, serviced every day, had a lovely ensuite with an excellent shower. The view was stunning and we even saw otters swimming in the bay. The breakfast was first class and Andy made sure that the buffet never ran out of anything. Dinner was just as good and the chefs went out of their way to accomodate any requests we had. Sunday lunch was also a highlight. The staff were all exceptional, and made time to answer any questions we had. ||Each morning at breakfast, Esme came over to check that everything was OK and regularly gave advice on our travel plans. The level of service in this hotel was in our opinion (5 adults and 3 Children), outstanding. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic spot. If you want away from the city and to really experience Shetland life this is the spot. Amazing scenery. Great old pile of a hotel. Some ongoing renos and some older parts but the owners are so friendly, the food is great. The residents pub is where guests mingle and swap stories and travel tales with the owners. In the end you won’t want to leave.

A lovely 2-night stay in Hillswick! Friendly staff, great little pub, wonderful meals. Rooms were clean, spacious, and well-appointed, if a little dated. Great basecamp for local hiking and sightseeing expeditions. Definitely worth a visit!

Lovely quiet loch side location on the north of Main Island.|Around 1 hour drive from the airport (which is on the south of the island). Also where most of the tourist sites are located.|Whilst the hotel itself is a bit tired and in need of updating, both the dining room and our room were fine.|Large bedroom with great views.|Plumbing in the bathroom was a bit erratic at times|Great walks from the hotel and a very good variety of bird life.|Compared to some of the hotels we visited on our 11 night Scotland tour, the £250 per night B&B price here was very reasonable.|Fantastic local fish served at dinner - we both had huge plaice caught just across the bay. Also excellent seafood chowder.|The booking conditions said that there were no refunds. We were therefore a bit nervous with the stormy weather the day before our flight, as to whether the flight would proceed, but all was well on the day.|Would definitely consider the hotel again if travelling to the Shetlands

What a fabulous place to stay. We had a great welcome when we arrived. Everything about St Magnus Bay is warm and welcoming. The food is freshly prepared and delicious, the staff are fantastic and did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Didn’t want to leave. We definitely plan to return.

We visited the cliffs of Eshaness and were looking for somewhere to have lunch on our way back to Lerwick. We received a very warm welcome and were given the last table, as it was Sunday lunchtime. The food was very good and the young waiter was very attentive. He wasn't very knowledgeable about the wine selection, but that was nothing we couldn't solve by working with him. The highlight at the end was a wonderful Pavlova – kudos to the kitchen. We hadn't expected that.

When you see the st Magnus it doesn’t look too great however I can assure you it’s very comfortable.|The staff are very friendly and super relaxed you will get fed very well.|The breakfast in the morning is buffet style with all the usual choices. The evening meals are really good and will keep you going. |I found the room very comfy with everything you need the WiFi is really good there is usb ports on all the sockets which is really handy.|Be aware the hotel is about 10-15 mins from the town of brae if you need a big shop but I think the local will have everything you need.|I would stay again as it’s a great base for all the walks in the area.
