This was a great experience for me and my body daughter to stop and see a very historical place where one of the apostles is buried. The church is quite beautiful and admission is free and there is parking that is free nearby as well. It was well worth our time to check out such a neat historical place.

Wonderful abbey. Hardly any tourists or pilgrims so you can take your time and sit and pray at the tomb of the apostle st. Matthias.

This wonderful abbey has the remains of the Apostle Matthias, who was selected to replace Judas as one of the Twelve after the Ascension of Jesus Christ. His tomb is accessible to guests and the Vespers here is amazing and holy.

Lovely peaceful place to visit, with an interesting history and the person who’s relics are believed to be there
It’s a renowned place of pilgrimage because of the tomb of Saint Matthias the Apostle, after whom the abbey is named, located here since the 12th century
Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area

The Abby of St Mattias is an Benedictine Abbey and it has the crypt of the first two bishops of the diocese of Trier. One of the attractions is the sarcophagus of St Mattias making it the only church in Germany to have full relics of an Apostle.

There are brochures at the entrance with the history of the place, but all of them are in German. I used my phone to make a translation.
It contains the funerary remains of the first bishops in Trier, the bishop that built the church, and the funerary remains of St. Matias, the apostle who replaced Judas (It is debatable whether these are really his remains).
