That was my first time ever visiting a church. I was immediately drawn in by the architecture from the outside, and I’ve always wanted to see what the inside of a church looks like. It was so beautiful — everyone was sitting quietly and praying, and the whole atmosphere felt peaceful. I was amazed by the paintings and the details in the craftsmanship. I’m really happy I had this experience.

Stopped by while wandering around downtown during my lunch break so I didn't have much time to stay long. St. Michael's Cathedral is an old and gorgeous Catholic Church reminding me of Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. Will be back soon when I have time.

Such a stunning amazing beautiful church. I just happened to be walking by and I wanted to see inside and realized mass was on so I prayed and was able to get communion. Such a beautiful blessing. It was definitely Gods plan. I could feel Jesus in my heart and for it to happen the way it did was definitely Gods plan for me to be there when I was. The people were friendly including security. Something I am not used to to in a church. Thank you God for this beautiful opportunity today and for allowing me to see such a beautiful church. God Bless and thank you.

In the heart of downtown Toronto, St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica is a true refuge from the city’s rush. The peaceful atmosphere, beautiful stained-glass windows, and soaring ceilings create a sense of calm and reverence the moment you step inside. What makes it even more special is that it houses holy relics of saints, adding a deep spiritual connection for those who visit. Whether for prayer, reflection, or simply a quiet pause, it’s a sanctuary that feels timeless and welcoming.

Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica is not only one of the city’s most beautiful historic churches but also the spiritual center of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto. It’s where the Archbishop of Toronto delivers Mass and special sermons on major holy days, which gives the place a unique sense of significance and reverence. The cathedral itself is stunning — a perfect blend of Gothic Revival architecture, tall spires, and intricate stained-glass windows that create a peaceful atmosphere even in the middle of the busy city. Inside, it feels calm and sacred, with beautifully restored interiors and soft lighting that make it ideal for prayer or quiet reflection. Whether you’re Catholic or not, it’s worth visiting just to appreciate the architecture and history. During services, especially when the Archbishop presides, the experience feels solemn and meaningful. It’s truly one of Toronto’s spiritual landmarks and a reminder of the city’s deep cultural and religious roots.

This Church is beyond beautiful, the architecture, the details the energy this place holds is pure Devine!. I would recomend to anyone to visit this church. The Sunday masses are full of knowledge and encouragement, such a fantastic jod they are doing preaching the Gospel. If english is not your first language don't worry there is a small book where you seat that have all the prayers to guide you during the mass! God Bless you all

St. Michael’s Cathedral is truly a gem in the heart of the city. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a serene and sacred atmosphere. The place is spotless—clean, neat, and incredibly well-maintained, which only adds to the peaceful experience. What truly stood out was the phenomenal choir and cantor—their voices filled the space with such beauty and reverence, creating a deeply moving and spiritual ambiance. The staff and volunteers were also incredibly friendly and welcoming, making everyone feel at home, whether you’re a regular visitor or stopping by for the first time. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a place of worship, quiet reflection, or simply to admire the stunning architecture and music. A truly inspiring visit!

Yelp
I know that God is everywhere. There is a holy and peaceful atmosphere in the Cathedral together with gorgeous architecture. I visit it regularly while it is open nearly all day. Many different kinds of spots to stay and pray. I would like to mention, that there are two relics and you can find different places to pray. All staff and priests are very kind and helping people from the goodness of their hearts. Definitely recommend visiting at least once a month for people not leaving close to Toronto. Definitely 5 stars.

It is most underrated and not advertised place! Every Torontoion must visit and so must every tourist. It is a hidden gem. Multilevel cathedral with marble structures give it European vibes.

Yelp
St. Michael's Catholic Cathedral is one of the older churches in Toronto. I was recently in downtown Toronto to fetch a couple of food orders. I have spent a lot of time around Church Street over the years. I used to park along Church Street to go to concerts at Massey Hall pre-pandemic. I drove up Church Street and was waiting for the traffic light to change. St. Michael's Cathedral was on my left. I decided to take a photo of it. During this pandemic, it's not open to the public. However, it does stream services these days. Its architecture is gothic revival. It means that it has a pointed arch and steeply pitched roofs. I have never been inside, but I have been told that the stained glass windows are breathtaking to look at. There are a bunch of parking lots around St. Michael's. Naturally, there are a bunch of churches along Church Street (surprise!), including the Metropolitan United Church across from it. The latter has a park in front of it that I used to enjoy sitting down and watching people go by. St. Michael's doesn't have a park, but does have a gift shop to perhaps compensate for that deficiency. I always liked the contrast between the churches along the west side of the street and the pawn shops on the other. They have remained that way since I can remember. The St. Mike's choir boys sing at this cathedral and have carried on this tradition for decades. I had a classmate back in elementary school who sang here. It's pretty looking at this cathedral from the outside. Perhaps one day, I will venture inside to see its beauty from that standpoint. (48)

Yelp
I like visiting old cathedrals and basilicas when visiting cities that have them. This one is quite beautiful with votive candle vigils at each of the many saints' statues. They also have a gift shop and crypt downstairs. I lit a few and said a few prayers as well. Spent about 45 minutes walking around and really took in the intricate architecture, craftsmanship and artistry of this gorgeous Cathedral.

Yelp
When I was younger, this was the church that I was dragged to every Sunday against my will. As much as I may not have enjoyed the whole "mass" aspect of things, I will give St. Mike's the fact that their church is absolutely gorgeous. I'd have to say this building is probably one of my favourites in the entire downtown core. Toronto doesn't have a lot of stunning architecture, but this church's spooky gates and stained glass windows tend to make me drop my jaw in awe every time. They also do some great stuff with their Out of the Cold program and other services for the homeless, not to mention food drives and stuff. The church is just steps away from the Eaton Centre, so if you're visiting the city and in the mood to take a break from all that consumerism and get some peace and quiet, St. Mike's is worth exploring.

Yelp
If you are a fan of gothic architecture, this is a good place to do it. Stained glass windows, high ceilings and echo acoustics abound. It's gorgeous here and right around the corner from the Eaton Centre. VIBE Catholic. It's St. Mike's Cathedral for...oh I can't use the lord's name in vain! It's probably a safe bet to say this is one of the most popular church in Toronto and thus, touristy. So though there is a community there's a large non-community here as well. THE SERVICE What's really lovely here is that you have the St. Mike's Choir boys (junior and senior) singing at the 9 am and 11 am masses. They're very talented. I need to get myself to their Christmas concert this year. OBLIGATORY CATCHY REMARK Ava your Maria. A lovely place to reflect or abound for your sins.

Yelp
Update review March 12, 2015. I went back to St Michaels to attend the Sunday 3pm mass a couple of weeks ago. To my disappointment, some of the priests there aren't very friendly and a bit too abrupt when I had an confession there and it was not a good experience. I understand that the church is under renovation but there is no reason especially for the ushers and security guards to be damned rude to the church patrons and you call yourself a Christians when you don't even treat your own fellow parishioners any respect and with kindness. Kinda hypocrite that you guys are asking for church donations?

Yelp
When you think you have your plans all made you look back at how much change there is. I was living in Toronto, visiting this most wonderful place where I prayed, planned, reflected, decided to enter Seminary and become a Priest- not to mention continuing with medical school to serve on so many fronts, so many places. It's a grand place to visit, reflect, think, reset your compass. If you visit .. Please do its really worth the visit. But, don't be in a hurry, take time to listen.. Not to people around you but to yourself , regardless of your belief systems. You can learn from stopping, clearing your head, reflection and taking stock in yourself. Btw I'm here now basically where I wanted but with a million changes. Maybe some new lifetime changes ahead? Do me a favor- light a candle for me! I can use all the help I can get. Peace be with you~

Yelp
I walked in the other day while getting my car serviced. I felt like an intruder and wondered if a beam might fall on my head. Not sure if we're supposed to stay out due to construction but the place is currently crammed with construction materials. Felt dangerous and I won't return until things settle down there. Before the construction this was my fav place for Sunday night mass. Beautiful. But due to the fire authority the ushers starting making you sit down. I like to stand at the back. A lot of people who used to go to St. Mike's are now showing up at other parishes. I am looking forward to the end of the reno, and hope the staff there will stop being so overtly authoritarian. I realize they have to follow the law. Give to Caesar what is Caesar's. But I don't think that's the ideal situation for Christian worship. Jesus has authority. But he was never authoritarian.

Yelp
So pretty! I attended Mass here on a visit to Toronto, and I was amazed by the architecture. The priest was kind and had a good homily. I can't say too much else about it because I'm not a regular here, but I am willing to go back if I find myself back in the city.

Yelp
The seat of the Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, St. Michael's Cathedral is to Toronto as St. Patrick's Cathedral is to New York. Gothic architecture dominate the cathedral all-around. Well kept by the Church, the main Parish Office located on the Church Street side offers parishioners and others a way to stay in touch with the cathedral's events and also organize spiritual masses for the recently departed. While it's not as impressive as other landmark Catholic cathedrals such as St. Patrick's, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and Notre Dame in Paris, it's worth a visit if you're looking to discover Toronto's history.
