From a parent's perspective.
For months now we have been getting ready for this day to tour the campus. We have jumped through every hoop and supplied everything asked for. Every time we talked to them, it's "great, we can't wait to see you here", or "judging by everything provided, you shouldn't have any problem getting in".
Fast forward to night before tour day. We've already purchased St Olaf swag, took time off work for both my wife and I, traveled from out of state, rented a hotel room and spent money checking out the area. 19 hours before we are set to tour, our child receives a call informing her she didn't get in, no explanation, our child said but I have a tour tomorrow, they responded back "well, you can just cancel it".
First off, she is still a minor and that call should have gone to her parents. An explanation should be a must.
Second, they have been telling us all along how she shouldn't have any problems getting in, to the point that we didn't apply anywhere else.
Third, now here we are in Minnesota, sitting in a hotel room the morning of the tour that we were just informed to cancel hours before. We have spent over $1000 to travel and check out the area. All of us took 3 days off work/school and now we sit here confused.
For a college to be unorganized enough to be making these decisions hours before their big tour day and to be so arrogant as to call the night before and act like it's now big deal. Completely unprofessional and unethical.
I expected better from you!
