This is one of El Paso's oldest cathedrals/churches. I would say it's also one of the most beautiful in town. I'm a regular at St. Stephen in east El Paso but also frequent St. Patrick. This is where the Bishop holds his seat. The choir sings upstairs instead of on one side of the altar. It sounds wonderful when they sing during mass. The sound is very good inside of the cathedral. They don't really need microphones. Someone also plays the organ upstairs during mass. St. Patrick also has beautiful stained glass windows.
I once went to a wedding here. It was decorated beautifully and the ceremony was also nice. My parents took me and my sister to Easter and Christmas mass many years ago. I didn't appreciate it back then but I do now. It gets very crowded during holidays. During ordinary time, it's not as crowded. That may be at any church, though. St. Patrick also has a smaller chapel. Smaller, intimate weddings are held here.
I recommend this cathedral on just its beauty alone to locals and tourists. Mass is always beautiful here. Whether you're Catholic or not, you should try going to mass here at least once in your life. You'll appreciate it for its beauty and sound quality. If you can't make it to mass, I'd recommend going to look inside of it sometime. You'll be in awe of its beauty. Photos don't do any justice for St. Patrick Cathedral.
