St. Patrick's Cathedral

The Cathedral is open only on Sundays and unfortunately I did not get a chance to go inside. It is beautiful from the outside and the surrounding area is well maintained as well.

As one of the oldest churches in Pakistan, it serves as a key religious site for the local Christian community. The cathedral's striking facade, stained glass windows, and tranquil atmosphere make it a peaceful retreat in the heart of the bustling city. It a disgrace that I as a European Catholic was denied even an entry to the courtyard od the church by some "security " guard which was Punjab and not even Catholic. I am not even going to mention that I couldn't get to the church to enter and pray. So shameful from the priest in charge that is not controlling situations like these.

Beautiful structure located near Empress market, Saddar and visible from almost 1km away. The church was completed in 1881, and can accommodate 1,500 worshipers. At the front of the cathedral is "Monuments to Crist the King", built between 1926 and 1931 to commemorate the Jesuit mission in Sindh. Nowadays Pakistani government is also participating and paying its part in rehabilitation and maintenance of this historical asset.

The building is wonderful and serene, too bad the surrounding courtyard is a bit uncared for.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi, and is located near the Empress Market in the Saddar locality in central Karachi. The church was completed in 1881, and can accommodate 1,500 worship. At the front of the cathedral is the Monument to Christ the King, built between 1926 and 1931 to commemorate the Jesuit mission in Sindh. The present-day cathedral is built in Gothic Revival architecture; it measures 52 metres by 22 metres. The design of the cathedral was conceived by the architect Father Karl Wagner, SJ and the construction was supervised by the lay Brothers George Kluver, SJ and Herman Lau, SJ. Groundbreaking was done in 1878, and the church was consecrated on 24 April 1881.
