Dedicated to Saint Peter, this church is one of the oldest religious sites in Vienna, with records of an earlier church on this spot dating back to the 4th century. The present building was constructed between 1701 and 1733 in a rich Baroque style, with contributions by leading architects including Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. Its distinctive green copper dome is a prominent feature of Vienna’s skyline. While the exterior is relatively modest, the interior is lavishly decorated, filled with gilded stucco, frescoes, and dramatic Baroque ornamentation that create an intimate yet opulent atmosphere. In addition to regular Mass, the church is well known for its organ and classical music concerts.
