The Best Places to Go in Spain and Portugal in 2026 | Condé Nast Traveler

"A classic luxury option in the Balearic Islands promises to be the talk of the island when it reopens in February 2026 after refurbishing some suites and renovating common areas. Set on Cala Punta Negra between Portals Nous and Palmanova, it anchors Calviá’s current momentum and sits next door to another high‑profile opening slated for 2026." - CNT Editors

St. Regis Mardavall is, without question, one of the finest resorts in Mallorca. The location alone sets it apart—right next to Portals, perfectly placed for both convenience and tranquillity. The property itself is stunning, with spectacular grounds that feel both expansive and intimate, and a front-line position that delivers uninterrupted sea views from every angle.||The spa is on an entirely different level—world-class, beautifully designed, and offering treatments that leave you restored in every sense.||But the real highlight? The team. Without a doubt, they are the soul of this hotel. From the moment you arrive at the front door to the smallest interactions in every corner of the property, the staff elevate the entire experience. Warm, genuine, and consistently exceptional—they make this hotel what it truly is.||A spectacular stay in every way. Highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing resort the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca is! A majestic grand lady with beautiful grounds, great rooms, romantic fabulous dining options and most importantly a top tier staff, always eager to take care of you. Every single person we encountered from housekeeping, dining, bell hops, reception and concierge desk couldn’t have tried harder to make us feel welcome. They were great at anticipating our every need.A special thanks to Marguerite, Jose, Christine and Alecia. The other plus about the St Regis is its optimum location on the island. Being there you feel secluded in a beautiful paradise, but are a short taxi ride to Palma and a delightful scenic ride to Deia, Valldemossa and Banyalbafur. We have been to 64 countries, 47 states and this is one of the most beautiful, places we have been, as well as a great hotel! A heartfelt thanks!

This was by far the best hotel I’ve booked in quite some time. The grounds were beautiful, the food was exquisite, and the spa was clean with endless amenities. The staff was unbelievably attentive and helpful. We lost our sunglasses in a cab and they tracked down the driver for us! The hotel is conveniently located for day trips into Palma and Sóller, and located right near the most fabulous port with top notch restaurants! Would highly recommend.

We had a very good experience at this hotel with our family of 4 including a 3 and 6 year old. The kids club and kids lunch buffet were great and gave us some time to relax and also not worry about what our kids were going to eat. The grounds, rooms, pool, and restaurant were very nice. We spent a lot of time with the pool and the staff was lovely. We had a little trouble booking things with the butler service as the options seemed very limited to certain companies which did not cater to children and were very expensive. The hotel was able to give us a late checkout as our flight out was very late.

The location of the hotel is excellent, but unfortunately the service and most of the staff are disappointing, except for the reception team who were welcoming and attentive. The butler service was extremely poor and I would not recommend it at all. Breakfast was acceptable, but the service was very slow. One of the most concerning issues we noticed was clear discrimination against Arabs, from the breakfast area to the restaurants. Staff seemed to treat non-Arab guests much better, which was very unpleasant. The garden-view rooms were uncomfortable, with many flying insects due to the garden area. Considering the price, I do not recommend this hotel — there are definitely better options available.

We had a fabulous stay. Upon arrival, our excellent and attentive butler Chris ( I think Christina) made sure we were happy with our room, which was excellent thanks to an upgrade. Some reviews have said that the decor is a bit dated, but frankly, who cares. There's an abundance of local art around the hotel that might have been acquired around a decade ago, which I enjoyed, so perhaps I am dated as well.||Our room had its own pool with swim jets a real espresso machine, a jacuzzi tub, radiant heated marble flooring in the bathroom, an extremely comfortable bed and automatic shades over our private lounge/ pool area, so I was willing to put up with some cherry wood cabinets. ||Breakfast was excellent and would have been included for us as Platinum members, but it seemed as if it was included for everyone. Service in the restaurants and at the pool was top-notch. The Michelin Star restaurant Fum was as good as you'd expect, and Tera was very decent, but we didn't get a chance to eat in Mar. ||Although I believe the hotel was fairly booked, the pools never felt crowded and I had the well appointed health club as well as one of the best thermal spas I've seen in a hotel practically to myself ( kids are not allowed in that area which was fine by me even though I have them).||Perhaps, best of all, was the kids' club. My children 8 and 11 basically spent their entire stay and the kids club by choice. Naomi, Delita, and Marta were lovely with my children the entire time and really made their stay a pleasure. They even included a healthy kids' lunch buffet at no cost, and the kids club folks sat with our children while they ate. ||There is a complimentary "shuttle" into the nearby towns, which is actually a brand new electric BMW sedan. There are a few very secluded small pebbly beaches behind the hotel. There were several party boats and small yachts mored there, and the hotel has a speed boat to get to and from the boats and other docs in the area. Shout out to Adriana, who gave my son and I a fun little boat ride. ||Enjoy, we did!

Just got back from the stunning St Regis in Mallorca! What a hotel! The property is picturesque and pristine. The service is impeccable. The food at all the restaurants was amazing. Terra was the best meal we had in Mallorca. General manager (can’t remember his name) is a class act. The staff at this hotel will do anything to make your stay perfect. It was a wonderful stay! Thank you St Regis Mallorca!

A million thx to Yaiza & Ramiro🙏🏻 Just wow. The St. Regis Bar is pure magic — where sophistication meets fun in the best way possible. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like royalty. The atmosphere is elegant but never stuffy, the cocktails are absolute masterpieces, and the service? Flawless. We had high expectations, and somehow they were exceeded. Every drink was a showstopper — creative, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced. The staff clearly love what they do and made the whole experience personal and memorable. Already dreaming of our next visit. If you’re in town and want to treat yourself, this is the place. Cheers to unforgettable nights at the St. Regis Bar! 🍸🔥

Yelp
The view, the cava, the food...I wish I was there right now. Thank you for incredible hospitality and a memorable lunch at Mar. Everyone from the valet, to concierge, to the servers were remarkable. I am grateful for a wonderful afternoon with delicious food and epic scenery!

Yelp
The Sea Club restaurant was not good, but overall .. the breakfast style buffet is awesome & so is the resort itself. It's super peaceful, pleasant staff and a calming environment. The grounds are kept up very well and I just realized not too long ago that they plant their own fresh herbs around the resort & use that for the food. That's super cool! One thing to note: - the jacuzzi could be hotter

Yelp
Ate at the Mar sea club down by the water. Claimed there is an ocean view but couldn't get down there to really see and it and they have a gate blocking the ocean. Service was decent food took a long time.

Yelp
It's my travel goal to visit every St. Regis property around the globe and I was so happy to check off the Mardavall Mallorca this past August. For starters, from arranging transportation from the airport to the resort, check-in and interaction with staff was all five star from the jump. When we arrived at the resort, our room was not ready, however, complimentary drinks and snacks of our choice were made available to us by the concierge. After we relaxed a bit, we were escorted to the spa where we changed into our swimwear and headed to the pool for an afternoon of unwinding and relaxation. For starters, the property is gorgeous. Nestled on top of a cliff, the views of the Balearic Sea are nothing but breathtaking. The property itself is well managed and immaculately taken care of adding to the beauty of the resort. The three level pool is large enough where you never feel like you're fighting for space and completely separate from the kids club, which has its own pool, playground and clubhouse. We enjoyed a suite facing the sea and pool. Spending time on our balcony in the early morning hours with my book and the view is something that really made my vacation special. Another fabulous touch was the overflowing display of fresh fruit that the hotel restocked every day. There was an abundance of nectarines (the sweetest I have ever had), plums, pears, bananas, apples and grapes. They encouraged you to help yourself and it was a great way to stay hydrated in the heat. I don't think I have ever seen my daughter eat as much fruit as she did in Mallorca. Speaking of my darling 3 year old. Traveling internationally with her was daunting when we first booked our travel. However, it was a joy vacationing with her. One of things that made this St. Regis extra special was the hospitality that they extended to her. They provided a special little bed for her that came equipped with tiny slippers and robe for her comfort. The staff never hesitated to engage in conversation with her that made her comfortable enough to go on a tour of the kitchen without us! The staff at the kids club also had a magical touch. There wasn't a kid in their care who wasn't enamored by Bastian or Angela. They played with the kids both in and out of the pool, did arts and crafts provided snacks and even took them for lunch. So, if your kid is 3 or over, you can actually leave them with the members of the Kids Club. Our daughter wasn't quite 3, so we had to stay and keep an eye on her, but watching her have fun was quite fun for us too. This is truly a family friendly property as judged by the amenities and demeanor of the staff. What a wonderful touch and something other St. Regis properties will implement into their resorts. I genuinely enjoyed the 4 days we spent here, meals included. It was the perfect way to unwind after hectic Barcelona and a resort I will highly recommend to my friends, family and fellow yelpers!

Yelp
Beautiful resort. The concierge was very accommodating and on top of things. The spa was nice, but staff was amazing! All in all, St Regis will always be a good bet...and Majorca is amazing so it's a good combo

Yelp
It always pains me to write a very negative review, but I have no other choice in this stay. Certain elements of the bad experience were beyond the control of the St. Regis, but the manner in which they handled what is now my worst Marriott stay (congrats Sheraton on the Park in Sydney.. you're now #2!) is what has led me to write this review. I proactively contacted the "butler team" several weeks before my visit to ask to please be placed in a room as quiet as possible on the highest floor possible, furthest away from lifts, and in the quietest part of the resort, as I am sensitive to noise and really needed time to do a "working vacation". The good: I had booked a king ocean view room. I was upgraded to a Junior Suite ocean view, which was a very nice gesture. The room was on the 5th floor (with a floor above me). The bad: Room not ready at check-in even though I had repeatedly emailed saying I really needed to work on a book chapter I'm writing and really wanted to be able to check in at 1:30 PM. No one contacted me about the room, and I finally went to the front desk to inquire. Magically, the room was ready "just at that moment." The room was fine...nothing special considering it's a St.R property. The problem I had in the room was that there were loud, screaming, stomping children above me. There were also screaming and stomping children throughout the floor where I was placed. When I went back down to the lobby and asked the "concierge guy" if I had been given the best room available, he said "You should be happy. We gave you a triple upgrade! We don't even have to do that!" FACT: I was not given a "triple upgrade." I booked and paid for an ocean view room that was one category below what I was actually given as a Titanium Elite member. The concierge wouldn't take no for an answer, and he began "mansplaining" their room categories to me. Why not just try to help the customer? The ugly: The property is full of smokers. I realize that smoking is part of the culture in Spain, but The St. Regis portrays itself as a smoke-free resort by noting multiple times on the Marriott website that the rooms are smoke free. I thought being a category 8 luxury property it would be smoke-free place. Literally EVERY common area outside (including the pool.... Imagine people blowing cancer-causing cigarette smoke in your face by the pool (!!)) is absolutely infested with smokers. It's a smokers' paradise. The resort might as well be in Las Vegas. I have a severe allergy to cigarette smoke. I thought I could possibly escape it, but you can't even have lunch without people blowing carcinogenic smoke in your face. After a few hours of being miserable and hating that I had booked this "resort," and being told I "should be happy" with my loud room surrounded by screaming children, I went downstairs to notify the staff that I was leaving. No one made any attempt to get me to stay. No offer of a new room, no apology, no "sorry you don't like the smoke.. tough luck.." no Marriott Bonvoy points, no nothing. Zip. Absolutely nothing. All that the gentleman who checked me out wanted to do was make sure I paid for the FORTY FIVE euro hamburger (which was awful and tasteless fake "wagyu") that I had at lunch before my asthmatic allergic spell caused by the chain smokers all over the resort. He was literally *only* concerned with me settling my bill when I had only been at this dreaded resort for five hours. I had the staff call me a cab, and I was off to the airport and rebooked myself last-minute to London where I knew I could find a quiet property to focus on the quiet working vacation I needed. The really ugly: I sent an email to the General Manager detailing all my issues. The GM farmed my email off to a "rooms supervisor" who wrote me one of the worst, coldest, completely lacking in customer service responses I've ever seen. They promised to refund me for my stay. As of today (72 hours later), I've received no phone call (I gave the GM and the staff my mobile # and said 'please call me'), no offer of any compensation (I'm out $450 USD for the last-minute plane ticket out of Palma de Mallorca, and I'm out $100+ in asthma/allergy meds I needed to pick up after being exposed to so many smokers), and absolutely NOTHING except a short, curt, rude email from someone who I never interacted with at any point. For the price this "Resort" is charging, they need to really seriously rethink some things. I understand if they want to cater to cancer-spewing people who love to smoke until they can't breathe...but this should be CLEARLY stated in the reservation details. Each balcony has a giant ashtray on it! You can smoke on your balcony and blow the smoke into the rooms above and next to yours. This is a problem, as much of the world agrees (and science agrees) that cigarette smoke is deadly.

Yelp
First of all the hotel doesn't have sand beach nearby, there are rocky beaches that are very slippery and sharp. The staff at the hotel is quite unprofessional. They have weddings there almost every day and they let those people party till 3 am!!! so if you want to get a good night sleep you're screwed, they would ignore your complains and just say "sorry". I definitely wouldn't go back there.
