Amazing food and service . We went on Valentine day Feb 14th on a Friday the wait wasn't bad about 30 minutes. The restaurant had a country decor with hundreds of old signs hanging on the wall. We had the prime rib and the food was outstanding. The service was great. We enjoyed celebrating our 34th Anniversary with them. You owe it to check this amazing place out

We came about a month ago. And it's been on our watch for awhile. The decorations of this place is very fun. There is so much to look at. Even had to check out the back room. Food was delicious. Have to get a salad from the bar. There was lots of toppings. Meals was a lot and the price isn't bad. Only down fall was having to wait for our waitress to bring our check. Had to wait on her most the time. Never came to really check on us at all. But we will give it another chance someday.

The Stables is our favorite restaurant in Guthrie! For several reasons. I like it for the meat; my wife likes it for the salad bar and the pie! Every meal we have had here has been very good and the same for the service. The restaurant is attractively decorated with nostalgic items and memorabilia. It is just fun to search the walls and ceiling to see what you can find and recognize. The salad bar is well stocked and maintained with fresh items. The service has been consistently friendly and attentive. Today’s dining experience was no exception to anything I have described here. Aside from the salad bar and the pie my favorite meals continue to be the, the Old Timer Burger, the Hickory Burger, the gigantic Chicken Fried Steak and my real favorite is the Rib Basket. The Rib Basket is a large serving of burnt end ribs and pieces. If you don't like burnt ends, then this is not for you. I love them! It comes with their homemade onion rings, but I prefer the fries. You get more than enough for a take home second meal. The Chicken Fried Steak is a large tenderized beef steak with a crispy coating that is a different than most common cafe chicken fries. They use what looks like cracker crumbs to create a thin crunchy coating. None of that thick heavy grease saturated doughy crust that is commonly found on the Oklahoma chicken fry trail. And it is big, covering the plate and smothered with homemade fresh cream gravy. My wife finished her meal with what she described as “the most perfect delicious slice of coconut cream pie!” Our server today was Beth. A super nice young lady that made lunch at the Stables, on the day before Christmas perfect! Parking is the biggest obstacle to eating here. It has a small lot and a big crowd, so you may end up parking around the corner along the curb. Save room for dessert!

Google
Great atmosphere with the nostalgic decor. Great service and good food - BBQ sandwich and salad bar. Other days they have buffets but missed out on that.

Google
Really good food. Great service. Super cute inside. Will definitely go back when we are in Oklahoma

Usually try to get there once or twice a year when in town visiting family. Most of the time I get BBQ, which is great, but got the open faced chicken fried which of course was awesome!

On a return trip back from Kansas we had to decide on a place to eat. I suggested once we approached Guthrie wet did pick a place. We decided on Stables Cafe' although there were plenty of other options. First we has to find a place to park whick turned out to be a short walk once we did. We walked right up to the hostess and we were seated right away. The menu had lots of options which I must go back and try! We ordered an appetizer what they called Mini Onion Rings, they were more like onion straws. They weren't there best I ever had but they were enjoyable. I chose the BBQ Sandwich - Pulled Pork & Brisket were the options. I opted for the Pulled Pork. There's tons of memorabilia to look at while we waited for our food. Very nostalgic! Our food arrived and it was looking very good. The Pulled Pork was delicious with a great smoky flavor. There was a side of coleslaw that came with the meal. I truly enjoyed the slaw! The only downside was the bun it didn't hold up as well as I thought it should. Other than that the meal was outstanding! With a place like this I sensed that the desserts would be good. So I ordered two slices of pie to go. I ordered slices of the Coconut Cream and the Lemon Meringue pie. They were outstanding!!!! I would definitely order either of these again!

Google
Food was great! Ribs were a little on the burned side, but hubbies slaw was great I never got my slaw. Chopped beef was perfect. I love that their air conditioning is nice and cold.

Yelp
I think this is a must place to try again! We were on a return trip from Kansas and since we skipped breakfast we figured we'd find a place for lunch. I did a Yelp search and this was an option, it did not disappoint! The menu is quite extensive so I know I have to return to try. We started out with onion rings as an appetizer they were more like onion straws, good but I doubt I will try them again! I chose the Pulled Pork Sandwich w/side of Cole Slaw. Very tasty and I would recommend! I got dessert to go; Coconut Cream & Lemon Meringue Pie - both were delicious and highly recommend both of those if that is your style pie! Now we arrived during the lunch hour and they were pretty busy but we were seated right away. While we waited there is plenty of memorabilia to look at and yet another reason to return!

Yelp
Really great vintage decor. I got the bbq buffet. They were running a little low by 8:30pm on a Saturday but I had plenty to eat. I enjoyed the chicken and ribs and the salad bar was very good too. I opted for a raspberry cider. The desserts were good but I'd rather fill up on meat!

Yelp
Service was Good But when we sent the steak back as there was nothing but fat on the plate, and I mean no meat. Picture shows it all. The waiter brought it back and said owner refused to replace it. Have not eaten there since.

Yelp
Came here with the family tonight after a long time away. Our last couple visits were pretty bad, so we took a break from this place. We tried it again tonight and it was worse than the past visits. Very disappointing. My $18 piece of hamburger meat (chopped steak) was charred to death and dry as the Sahara. When you order meat well-done, and say that you just don't want any pink, that does not mean char it to death. My fries were soggy and gross. My toast was hard as a rock. My son's hamburger was charred like a brick. My mom's "steamed" broccoli and carrots, which she asked to be steamed longer than normal so they'd be soft, were hard and raw. Seems like they were warmed up briefly and that's it. My husband's steak was good he said, but his "onion rings" were actually onion straws, which he hates. The floor was greasy and slippery. The window next to my chair was filthy. Even the fly didn't survive. The waitress told us a story about one of their past customers and she dropped an F bomb right in front of my son like it was nothing. Very distasteful. We also had to remind her to bring out items we ordered (super annoying) because I guess it was too hard to read the ticket and check the tray before bringing the food to us. The only positives were the salad bar (well stocked and decent options) and the ice water (very refreshing). I don't think we'll give this place any more chances. It was $100 for a very low quality meal in a dirty setting. No thanks.

Yelp
Nostalgic interior and great service. Took my Uncle with me and boy that place was a hit. The crispy onion rings were his favorite. And our lunches so hit the spot. I got the smoked sausage with beans. And we both got a giant helping of onion rings!! Only coms were the beans. A bit bland for my taste.

Yelp
Food: I had Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes & White/Cream Gravy and one trip to the salad bar. The portions are large and I recommend trying it. My companion ordered Brisket without asking how it was prepared; he was underwhelmed since he was expecting smoked not boiled. The salad bar had decent options but the Texas Toast served with the meal was so-so. Service: Even with a practically full house, we were seated and served without too much waiting. Our server was friendly and checked on us several times to make sure all was good. Ambiance: Perfect, unless you dislike every vertical and horizontal space being filled with old license plates, sports memorabilia, etc. I loved looking at all the history the items represented. Our table was covered with photos, ticket stubs, etc all from 1945!

Robert C.

Yelp
Bbq ribs for lunch yesterday looked and tasted like it was cooked the day before and reheated all morning, tough no taste. Brisket was the same it came in a bowl with a watery base, no taste and tough. Salad bar excellent!!!! Baked potato excellent!. Maybe their other menu items are ok but bbq stay away from it.

Yelp
Excellent food and beer. Like to eat in the Tap Room. They have an excellent salad bar too. Burgers and ribs are the best.
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
The salad and BBQ buffets were great. The salad buffet is the best in the region. The waitress we had was very pleasant and made sure we were taken care of

Jera K.

Yelp
We stopped because the immediate seating sign was on. When we walked in the lobby was packed. The server said she would turn the sign off and it would be 20 minutes so we stayed. An hour later we were finally seated. We immediately placed our order and forty minutes later.... Still no food in sight. Meanwhile, several "to go" orders are flying out the door. When I asked again about my wait- the hostess said- they were trying to help the kitchen get caught up. I suggested to the hostess that they stop taking to go orders and seat the people waiting. I'm invested now- so I'll stick it out but I will never be back. Terrible management for return business. The hostess was polite and so was our server so I will give them props there. Logistics are everything.

Yelp
I had the chicken fried steak with a salad bar. The food was delicious and served hot. The salad bar was well stocked with a variety of fruits and vegetables. I had a short wait before being seated. The server was quick to greet me but scarce after delivering the food. Some of the other patrons spoke loudly creating a crescendo of voices as each table competed with each other. It quieted after one table left.

David Y.

Yelp
Food was hot and served in a reasonable amount of time. Salad bar always fresh and good selection. Service (if everyone shows) is very friendly and helpful. Unique atmosphere, and I love it! Slight complaints: one time my steak was gray (not grilled enough) but it was cooked correctly and tasted okay, forgot the other one so must not have been that important‍

Yelp
One of the best sit-down options in Guthrie. Quintessentially decent. If you stick to what they think they'll do well, you'll have a good time with managed expectations. Their burgers, steaks, and appetizers are good, and comparable to other accepted steakhouses. The smoking of the burgers is a nice touch. My only problem with the restaurant is perhaps more of a culture issue in the area. I was trying to eat relatively healthy so I attempted to do a "steak and eggs" w grilled veg instead of the ultra-fried side dishes. Both of these "substitutions" are on their menu (fried "runny" egg is an option for the burgers, and grilled onions and mushrooms are a side). They were visibly confused and even asked a manager and said nobody had ever ordered these before. In OKC, this would be a super common substitution, but Guthrie be wilin'. They attempted to be accommodating, but I was told that the "chef" would "attempt" the fried egg, but it wouldn't be "runny." Bro a fried egg is like the first thing most cooks learn. Anyway, besides that the only problem is the wait can be atrocious at times, which makes sense since it is one of the only decent options in the city. All in all, I like the place and will be back, especially if I'm not trying to eat healthy.

Yelp
Our server Nate was amazing! The food portions were huge and hearty. Everything's was flavored. The cafe was styled like an old dinner with a pie show case and old signs, pictures, and vintage art.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch with the wife. If you're in a hurry, go somewhere else as they are busy here, and for good reason. People may say that the service is slow, but with a busy as this place is, the service is surprisingly quick and friendly. The place is set up like old school road side cafe, with signs and pictures hung up on all the walls. For food, you can either order off the menu or eat from the buffet. I ordered the Swiss and mushroom burger with sweet potato fries, my wife ordered the blackened ends with onion rings. Overall the food was delicious.

Yelp
We had a great time tonight at Stables Cafe. The service was amazing and the food was just what we expected - southern, country food. Nothing pretentious about this place. Just friendly people and plenty of good food with a casual atmosphere. We really enjoyed looking at the eclectic collection of signs and memorabilia.

lera d.

Yelp
Customer service was shit, took 30 years for the food to arrive. Salad bar was also mid.

Thomas D.

Yelp
They recommended the BBQ and it DID disappoint. Was dry and had little smoke flavor . Service was friendly

Lynda L.

Yelp
The food and service was exceptional. The salad bar was an unexpected treat. Such an interesting place in downtown Guthrie Oklahoma!

Doug C.

Yelp
Have ran up to Guthrie several times and always eat at Stables, but today is my last! Good just not as good & prices are ridiculous for some items. Today it was just a little on burnt side. Chicken fried steak sandwich and onion rings were a little too crispy. The ice water was nice cold to wash down the charcoal taste though.

Kathy M.

Yelp
Great food, great service in a really neat location! If you are in the area it is a must stop!

Yelp
Outta towner from Texas and this was the best burger Ive had in a long time. Served with perfect seasoned fries and a cold beer. No wait friendly staff and all around great place to eat.

Vicki L.

Yelp
Restaurant is rundown. Open air salad bar. Flies were flying around and landing on it.

Phil B.

Yelp
I have visited this place many times over the years. It is just currently I feel I should share my experience the past 4 visits. Slow, small portions, unhappy staff and once again slow, as in kitchen. 40 minutes and counting has gone by to n a lunch visit. This is disappointing for sure.

Cris Y.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The food was hands down scrumptious!!! Wait staff was very friendly & kind! They have some of the best tasting baked potatoes I've ever tried! Also, I love the retro memorabilia around the interior of the restaurant!! Makes the whole place feel more inviting & warm! Def recommend!!!

Yelp
What a great local Mom&pop place. A little tough to get a table during busy times, it's that popular. We happened to be there when they had the BBQ buffet. Great food ! I don't normally like bbq chicken but theirs was great, along with the ribs, sausage, fried okra, potatoes, corn, peach cobbler and chocolate sheet cake. Prices are reasonable, clientele is laid back and diverse, service is okay and the antiques make it interesting while waiting on the food. Whole heartedly recommended.

Yelp
Went to Stables with visiting family and service speed was awful again. After waiting almost 40 minutes, our burgers came out overcooked with tastable char on them and buns that were smashed on top and vegetables on it that were wilted and tomatoes past ripe. Honestly, disgusting and I didn't eat a second bite. The server didn't inquire as to why a whole burger wasn't eaten. And we were charged for it. We don't intend to return. Sad.

Yelp
We stopped at Stables during Guthrie's Territorial Christmas. The Stables was pretty busy, but they beat their estimated wait time of an hour, and had us seated in about 40 minutes. My wife and I split a chicken fried steak dinner and each had a pie, it was all outstanding - including our waitress.
google avatar

Vic C.

Yelp
Wow, my wife and I came up to Guthrie for an event and stopped to eat beforehand. We were in there for about an hour and had only received our drink order and hadn't seen our server since. We decided to leave so we went to pay for our drinks (tea & water) the girl at the counter couldn't check us out so she went to look for our server and couldn't find her finally they got a lady who came from the back , she could have been the manager or a cook, she didn't say but she did charge us $3.50 for the drinks I usually don't leave bad reviews but decided to make an exception in this case
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
Just an FYI to let everyone know that this restaurant is not the best place to eat. I've had 3 different times going there and not good, one time I went there ordered a hamburger and it came out cooked with the paper still on it. Recently I got a salad and wasn't long after it I got deathly sick. Bad enough I've got cancer so haven't been feeling well anyway but to get food poisoning was the straw that broke the camels back. Just beware people, you wouldn't think a salad could give you food poisoning would you? I guess salads are at the top of the list for doing that. Been a cold day in hell before I eat another salad. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Thank you for letting me vent

Yelp
Stopped here on my way back from Gardner, Kansas to Houston, TX. There are not many options in this area and most everything closes at 9:00pm or is already closed on a Sunday. The building and decor is eclectic antique. As others have noted, we did have to deal with a visiting fly, but it wasn't excessive. I ordered the crispy chicken salad with sweet tea and it was wonderful. The hand made pita chips it comes with are delicious and it was more salad than I could finish even though most of what I left was the shredded lettuce. This place mainly offers salads, baked potatoes and a few Tex Mex options like Tacos and Nachos.
google avatar

Jerry E.

Yelp
Fortunately, we live a short drive away and the Guthrie allure and great food make for a trifecta! Warning! Come hungry or ask for a box when you order. Lots of items on menu, all good and huge portions! Great service and oh! Don't leave without pie! With Guthrie being so active, plan on wait line on weekends!
google avatar

Donna Y.

Yelp
This place has a unique atmosphere, very nostalgic. We were in town visiting family who suggested we try this restaurant. We had the buffet which is small and limited but it was flavorful and fresh. It was home style comfort food. The service was great we had a young ambitious waitress.

Gracelyn H.

Yelp
It's was really good highly recommend if your a country hik Brody me back to my Texas roots

Jami J.

Yelp
Food was good, but our service was incredibly lacking, started off with my husbands drink, he had ordered a Bloody Mary and the bar tender put dried mint in it, she apologized but still served it to him, then we ordered the BBQ buffet, our waitress disappeared and we had to go track down silverware on our own because she forgot it, she also never refilled our drinks a single time, we were there with our 7 month old granddaughter and I gave her a couple tiny little bites of one of my potatoes and they ended up charging us an extra $10 for her! I don't even know how they saw her eating considering the waitress was never around, She literally ate about one adult bite worth of food. I really wanted to like this place but we've been there three times over the last couple of years and every time it disappoints in some way or another, but this last time was the absolute worst, we won't be going back.

Sharon D.

Yelp
The waiter messed up our order, I asked if I could get 2 or 3 different meats on the bbq meal by splitting the pound of meat into 3 different types, the waiter went to ask manager and came back saying that we could. The pulled pork and brisket was cold. They didn't get our sides correct and when we were ready to leave they said the sides we wanted would be another 5 minutes as this was 45 minutes after we ordered we said no. When the check came out they added over $20 to the total for the meat. It would be a one star for me.

Charity G.

Yelp
I don't understand the bad reviews! Traveling through and stopped for supper, best chicken fried steak I have had in a long time. Brisket, hot links, and especially loaded baked potatoes highly recommended. Our waitress was awesome! Great atmosphere. Fast service. Definitely will stop again next time we go through town.
google avatar

Shane H.

Yelp
Everything about this place was good. Food quality, food quantity, the service, everything. Laid back welcoming atmosphere. Did I mention the food quantity? You can't walk away hungry. Everything seems to be scratch made. Just a really good place.
google avatar

Brandy O.

Yelp
Disappointed is the only way to describe it. The chicken strips were Tyson Chicken stripes I cook at home. And we were not advised that loading the baked potato was $3.50 up charge. Best part was the salad bar, had good options and was fresh.

Wes W.

Yelp
Such a joke....ribeye steak was all fat......Go to Cattlemans for a good steak. This place is a rip off

Marvin H.

Yelp
We are visiting family in the Guthrie area and i suggested we go to Stables for dinner. Found this place listed on Yelp. We had two chicken fried steaks dinners with baked potatoe, white gravey and Texas toast, others had the pulled bbq pork - also had the salad bar. Everything was tasty and very favorable and very reasonably priced. Would definitely return. Service was excellent. Our waitress was Kylie and she was wonderful

Grace L.

Yelp
We had a long long day. Me and my family were wanting to have a nice dinner together and did, the food was great, salad bar fantastic, but the service was well let's just say very inadequate. It took forever to get anything we asked for. Things as simple as a straw was too much to ask for. I would understand if they were busy and/or short handed but, they weren't. The waitress was rude and had a major attitude problem. When we tried asking about her necklace and complimented on it, we got a rude response and then talked about to another waitress loud enough to where we could hear. We did nothing offensive and no way said anything to make her upset. Her name was Natalia by the way.

Damon D.

Yelp
Had the BBQ plate with ribs and pulled pork, was incredible. Service was great, staff was friendly, and food was reasonably priced. Very glad we chose to eat there, it was a fun atmosphere.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Came on a Monday and it wasn't open dispute the hours showing they were. Very disappointed as we were excited to dine there and had a screaming two year in the back. Recommend calling before you make the trip.

Jerry G.

Yelp
Sunday buffet was extremely overpriced for the few choices that were available 42.29 for 2 people ,service was good, need to lower price or offer more variety and quality.

Mona A.

Yelp
Service was very friendly and helpful. The chicken fried steak could feed a family! It was rather warm in the place.

Darell B.

Yelp
The chicken fried steak is the best! Big enough for two! The salad bar is a meal in itself! And don't forget to get a slice of pie! Many to choose from!

Chris W.

Yelp
Awful service and rude employees. I will never go back there again. Last I checked restaurants are in the hospitality industry.
