The waitress refused to let me have my own water bottle on the table. I told her that it was only water but she still argued with me and was very rude. I explained that it is 25 degrees and I just had throat surgery (tonsillectomy) so need my water on me, I even said I would pour it in a glass yet she made me put it on the windowsill. She wouldn’t let me even have it on my table! Having iced water on me is imperative for my health yet she wouldn’t listen. Having water is a human right and I’ve never experienced this in my entire life after eating in restaurants worldwide. I would understand if it was a fizzy drink but it was just iced water and she refused to top up my glass with tap water too which is illegal in the UK. I literally had to pour my own water from my water bottle into a glass and use my own straw from my water bottle. Just so bizarre.

Excellent home-made dim sum. Delicious. Good service. Small restaurant. No service charge. Still a great restaurant offering a good range of dim sum. Enjoyed the fried beef hofun today.

Rude server that was refusing to let me drink my own iced tap water in my stainless steel that I brought with me. I came on the bus and was going elsewhere afterwards, I need to ensure I always have iced tap water on hand as many places give you lukewarm tap water and usually no ice. They forced me to open my bottle then said I can only stay if I put my bottle up on the windowsill because other customers might see my bottle and think they can bring their own drinks. I made it clear it’s just water and it’s really iced and cold which soothes my throat, especially as it was 24 degrees today! Not impressed with the attitude of this server, I’ve been coming here for over 3 years and this is the first time this has happened here (and at any establishment in the whole of Edinburgh). Clearly trying to push the fizzy drinks and alcohol at an exorbitant price. Not happy at all!

Oooh really good dim sum! Everything we had ordered was on point, especially the highly recommended braised pork and preserved veg steam pot rice! The pork belly was meltingly soft and it’s sauce went so well with the steamed rice which had absorbed the umami flavour of the beautiful fat and the preserved veg gave the perfect saltiness and crunch to cut through the richness of the dish. The service was super friendly and seating by really cosy, so the owners were very personable, chatting with us and giving us great recommendations. We could see that all the tables around us had happy smiles on all the faces as we all keep reaching for the menu to order more and more dishes after eating each delicious morsel. The only negative was the Quick fried beef hot fun which although was ok tasty, was a tad oily and there were still chunks of the rice noodles that were stuck together. The dish was lackluster and I felt it could have been done with more beef (small thin pieces that were abiT overcooked) and noodles looser (not in chunks) But overall, def a great place! Next time I wanna try all their Steam pot rice!!

Google
A tiny dim sum restaurant with about 10 tables. But the quality of the food is the best in Edinburgh. The Cheung fun beef and the squid cakes are superb. But all the food is authentic and good. They also do congee, pot rice and various noodles. This is a dim sum house so don't expect normal Chinese restaurant food.

Came here on a date night after finding it on google maps. Wow what a lovely little hidden gem off of Leith Walk. We are currently on a food journey exploring different authentic cuisines and Stack Dim Sum was just that! We tried the Char Siu Bun- which was fluffy and sweet and succulent. Slow Braised Chicken Claw in Black Bean- which was flavourful, succulent again and different! The Vietnamese spring roll was one of our favourites which came with fresh lettuce on the side. The wager crispy prawn soya skin roll was served with Worcestershire sauce and had delicious prawn inside! My favourite was the Slow Braise Cubed Beef in rich chi hou sauce with noodles! All food came fast, fresh and very hot! Atmosphere is quiet and almost private but for a date night it’s lovely to just sit and eat and enjoy your meal together! Altogether with two coca-colas was £37! Very reasonable, lovely staff, definitely will come back with a bigger crowd!

What a great surprise this dim sum bar was! Really good authentic cooking. Everything came out quickly, in a timely way, and piping hot. Very tasty, we all loved it and would definitely go back. Reasonably priced for the fantastic quality it was.

Yelp
We discovered this place a couple of years back when looking for dim sum in Edinburgh. It was recommended by some real experts, so why not try? We've now been here a number of times and really like it. They do really nice dumplings, my favourite probably being the salmon and prawn one. The duck rolls are really good. And we've tried some of the stir fry noodle dishes. Most recently I went for the chicken rice porridge. I'd never had it before and really liked it. It's nice to have a good dim sum in Edinburgh. This place is off the beaten path but doesn't disappoint. The service could be a bit warmer, but that's easily forgettable once you've gotten your first plate.

Yelp
This place offered the worst service I have ever got in Edinburgh and I will never go back even if I stay in a place so close to it. The service is terribly BAD. When I first entered this restaurant, the waitress already treated me quite rude when she knew that I was going to order only one congee item. Later on, when my husband came to the restaurant and fetch me, we tried to ask the waitress if their food has MSG because my husband is allergic to MSG. We were actually planning to eat there again if their food doesn't have MSG. However, the waitress replied me with an anger both in her face and her tone, and said all the restaurants in the world had MSG, she told me even the soya sauce, the oyster sauce and even salt had MSG. If I want to avoid MSG, I should just cook at home and not eating in any restaurants. The way she said things was very impolite and rude. And she recommended my husband not to eat there as they couldn't guarantee their food wouldn't have MSG. The thing is, when she talked to me, she was in a terribly bad manner and I didn't know what did I do that offended her. I talked to her politely all the way through. The only thing I could gather was I only ordered one congee item there that made her unhappy. But still, she should not treat a customer like this. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. She gave me the worst service I've ever encountered in Edinburgh!!! I would recommend people not to eat there.

Yelp
If your hours of operation are 12-5P on Wednesday, why announce your not open until 5P. Would have liked being a customer.

Yelp
We have yet to find a Chinese food place that makes up for our local closing, so decided to try Stack, although knowing it's not the greasy, fulfilling Chinese we long for. We ordered take-out and wanted to ensure it was enough food for two people, so we ordered 4 of the dim-sum and one of the glutinous rice bowls. We had the #1 Prawn Dim sum, #10 Ribs and Black Beans from the steamed menu and then the #23 Fried Squid Cake and the #24 Vietnamese Spring Rolls from the fried menu. All were delicious, especially the prawn and the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The ribs were also good, but quite fatty and lots of small bones, so I was slightly turned off by eating those. The rice congee, #52 was good and hearty, but seemed to lack any salt or real flavour. I would say it would be excellent for a someone with a cold, but not an amazingly flavourful option. They did serve it with deep fried bread dough, which was so tasty. Overall, a delicious meal, but it wasn't nearly enough food for two people. It just wasn't super filling, but we imagine it is a great dine-in option if you have some friends to share it with and some time to linger. It is a bit pricier then most takeaway's, but it's a bit different then just getting sweet and sour chicken, and definitely worth the tasting. Also, they don't accept card under £25 pounds, so make sure to bring cash. Oddly enough, they serve a wine called Forge Mill, which I discovered at The Dogs, and have been hunting to find locally ever since. A great wine and I am excited they sell it. Definitely a place I will only dine-in from now on to get the experience, which I think makes them a great eatery.

Yelp
I love Stack Dim Sum! This small place just off Leith Walk serves absolutely delicious food and it's a great place to go with a group of friends, order a few things from the menu and share. You get a bit of everything to try. The menu has so many tasty things that it can be difficult to choose initially.. So far I have sampled various dumplings, char sui bun, slow braised chicken claws (yes they are delicious and again the collagen factor is one the benefits of eating this delicacy), tender braised pork pot rice, slow braised beef in with noodles in a broth. All home made and yummy. One of my favourites is the braised pork pot rice - it is just comfort food in a bowl. Also the beef noodle soup has really good flavours. They do a nice home made spicy chilli paste which goes well with most of the dishes. Go and try for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
New Menu new review. They have seriously shortened the menu and but the favourites on there. They added some new ones and I am a happy Jungleboy. The pork belly dishes are second to none. The dim-sum Sai-Bau is my new favourite - the pastry casing is see through and the filling so delicate and flavoursome. As usual we get a lot of choice and stacks of flavour. Thank you Joyce and their kitchen team for making sure I get my dim sum rocks off!

Yelp
Few things that are better here than others. -Salmon and asparagus steamed dumpling, you can tell this guy has worked in Hong Kong -Glutinous rice parcel (if you don't order this then just go home, it's the best thing on the menu) -The cheung fun is pretty good -Squid cakes are good, who doesn't love squid cakes! -Char sui Bao is alright -Ribs and chicken feet are a little weak. The menu is small which you know means everything is made fresh in house. Ate here loads when it opened but got a little bit jaded after going so much. They use free range eggs and you can tell this a bit better than your normal quality of Cantonese food. Mens toilets are a little weird, you can't sit on it without angling your legs around at an angle. Open til 9 which is handy if you want a late night dim sum fix.

Yelp
I like dim sum and I like this place. A place that Chinese people will go. Having my usual Ha Kau, chicken feet and buns. Unfortunately it's a bit far for me otherwise will eat there everyday

Yelp
I tried Stack's dim sum tonight with some friends. Overall, the experience was decent: the service was good, the food came quickly and the prices were more than fair. As far as authenticity is concerned, Stack remains quite faithful to tradition: all of the familiar favorites are present on the menu. That said, if you've experienced real dim sum in Asia or in the US before, Stack just doesn't quite cut it. The flavors, textures and freshness just aren't comparable to that of genuinely good dim sum. On the other hand, we are in Edinburgh, and I therefore think that Stack deserves a lot of credit for simply existing. If it were in New York, California or Hong Kong, Stack would deserve a couple of stars at best. However, since it's one of the only (and possibly the best) dim sum joints in town, it gets the extra star.

Yelp
We love Dim Sum! And this place did not disappoint! We got the red bean trio, the duck spring rolls, and the salmon & shrimp & asparagus dumplings! SO DELICIOUS! We could have eaten 4 plates of those duck spring rolls! The menu suggested getting three small plates and one large to share between two. OR 6 small plates. WE opted for the first idea. It was all delicious! We can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Initially the only customers on Sunday afternoon, we'd heard good things about Stack so anticipation was high. We ordered 2 dim sum each (4 of us), so had a decent selection of the menu to try - including the chicken claws which were really only ordered out of curiousity and whilst not disgusting, I probably wouldn't order again (you spend more time picking bones out your mouth than eating the claw). The menu suggests ordering 2 dim sum each and a rice/noodle dish - I had the rice broth with marinated pork and 'thousand year' egg, which was fairly bland and the egg was cut up so the experience of eating the unappetising looking preserved egg was lost somewhat. It wasn't bad, and would definitely make good comfort food, like a rice porridge, but nothing exciting. The other 3 went to order 3 noodle dishes but the waitress advised that this was a bit much (despite the advice on the menu), so we got 2, and she was right - these were big portions. I've given Stack 4 stars, despite my apparently negative review because it was good. The dim sum were tasty and perfect for sharing. The tablet with photos of the dishes in addition to the printed menu was great too. And prices are reasonable. We'll be back, but possibly won't order chicken claws or rice broth again!

Yelp
I wish I could love this place as much as everyone else... but it's just not there... I've had plenty of dim dim in my life and maybe the availability of Asian food in Auckland has spoiled me, or even just better dim sim places in London... but my dining experience as Stack was just... bland.... The food itself was alright... but nothing I can't buy for cheaper from the Asian supermarkets and make myself at home... The sticky rice from the A.S is actually much better than the ones at Stack... The menu/selection isn't great.. and I had quite a large selection of the options... but nothing was overly stand-out... There was no condiments to go with my dim sims... The service, considering there was 3 tables while we were there, was pretty slow and I physically had to get up to get the attention of the waitress to order more food... I was excited that there was a dim sim restaurant in Edinburgh.. but I won't be hurrying back to Stack... There is apparently one other place in town that offers dim sim... so I shall try there next time...

Yelp
It may not look like much, but Stack is full of surprises. There's a good range of dim sum - fried and steamed - all cooked and served perfectly. As well as the standard fare, there are plenty of more unusual options like chicken claws and congee. The flavours are big without being salty and none of the dishes were particularly greasy. The asparagus and salmon dumplings were a bit of a highlight and I'm a sucker for squid cakes ("smashed" squid, if you believe the menu) and these flash-fried little packages of loveliness are a delight. The obvious comparison is with Chop Chop, and I'm certainly not saying Stack's food is better (extensive and repeated research of both restaurants would be necessary before I committed like that). In terms of service though, Stack wins hands down. And, unless you're going for the banquet at Chop Chop (which I always find to be TOO MUCH PRESSURE) Stack's certainly better value.

Yelp
An absolute gem! I love Dim Sum and always eat way too much, lucky for me the prices here allow for that! When we entered we were given a generic laminated menu AND a tablet which had pictures of the food available so we could add to the anticipation, our mouths watering as we scrolled through the food! I can't remember exactly what we ordered, Pork Char Sui always makes an appearance with me and I can tell you it was delicious, apart from that all sorts of dumplings and spring rolls were had. We finished up with a jasmine tea and a smile from our lovely waitress. I think I've found my second home :)

Yelp
Tasty dim sum and it's local! Been wanting to try this place out for age, since seeing all the hype on here about it. It's a small restaurant with a basic but dated interior however the steamed dim sum were good. Wasn't overly keen on the buns although the noodles and rice were lovely and all washed down with a bottle of beer. The service isn't overly friendly and it's almost a little cold, but they do have a interactive tablet menu along with the regular paper menu to show you what the dishes look like. I thought that was pretty helpful for any dim sum newbies. The dishes came out one by one and at different times, so it's a bit like tapas, we just shared the dishes, enabling us the try a little bit of everything. Now I'm no dim sum connoisseur but I've been to an amazing dim sum almost fast food restaurant in China Town, New York but the portions and style of dumplings were a little different to our wee Leith establishment. Not what I was used to. I was expecting bigger dumplings, with more juices and bite. All in all, this place is still good but I'm yet to find a dumpling that will match the NY dumpling house!

Yelp
I don't usually write reviews, but for a place as good as this I have to..Go right now! Restaurants this good deserve to be busy. This is the best Dim Sum I've ever had. It's home-made, fresh and tasty. The restaurant is small - 7 tables or so. We had a selection of 5 different types between two of us, which came in a £22 including soft drinks. You get 3 or 4 per portion. Plenty of food for us, if you are hungry a selection of 6 portions would do. Yes it's a bit more expensive than some other places, this doesn't matter, it is very reasonably priced for what you are getting. Will be going back this week.

Yelp
Went here for the first time on Friday for lunch as myself and my dining companion were after something cheap, quick and not too filling. Having heard good things about this place, we felt it was worth a try. And it really really was. The service was quick and friendly, the atmosphere cosy and comfortable, the char sui bun and pot stickers were among the best I've ever tasted. 5 plates between us and not a bad one among them, this was definitely the first of many visits to Stack!

Yelp
I have been to this small little gem for a while. Being a Chinese, I am very picky about my food. I have eaten quite a few Dim Sums around Edinburgh and this is by far the best Dim Sum restaurant in Edinburgh. The Dim Sums are made fresh everyday. The place is small and only has about 8 tables but I guess you do have the personal attention. The menu of the Dim Sum is not extensive, but the quality of each Dim Sum is superb. I suppose they are aiming for the 'make a few but make it really good' concept. There is only one chef and a waitress and the waitress is really friendly and willing to help you with the choice of your Dim Sum. The speed of the food that comes out of the kitchen is really fast as well once you place your order so you don't have to wait long. I hope more people learn about this place as the location is horrendous as it out of the main road. All I can say is you will never regret a visit to this place for food.

Yelp
Stack is the best Dim Sum in Scotland. They have lovely home cooking food that is top quality. The place is unpretentious but the people and the food are the most authentic Chinese I have had in the UK. Where else can you find chicken foot congee?

Yelp
Sorry Stack Dim sum but you really didn't impress me at all from the service to the food. I love a good dim sum and have had my share of delicious ones but opted to try a new place which had raving reviews. When we arrived it was empty and said hi to the staff that stood talking in the corner, we got shown to a table but she said nothing at all not even hello. We ordered drinks and a mixture of food, won tons, dim sum, noodle dish etc. all was not worth a try but the husband liked the noodle soup type dish. The wine was like vinegar but for a tiny take away/dim sum bar we didn't expect neuf de pape. Upon paying we got told they didn't accept Meastro so luckily we are happy to use another card as a cash machine is quite far away. I wouldn't recommend eating here and won't be back.

Yelp
I went to Stack tonight on it's second day of opening. I've been looking for authentic dim sum for ages and am so pleased that one has opened on my street! I didn't recognise many things on the menu and so decided to try a selection of dim sum and a big bowl of cleansing wan ton and noodle broth. The food was delicious, in particular some crispy prawn pancakes, and the spring rolls were incredibly light. The dumplings reminded me of what I used to find in China Town in Manchester, full of flavour and the genuine article. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the Ho fun. My friend said she would've liked some chilli flakes on the table, but all in all I would highly recommend this restaurant for real, homemade dim sum. They are also licensed, so a great little place to go and share food and a bottle of wine!

Yelp
A few friends and I tried this out last Friday and found it really good. The waitress was really attentive, friendly and helpful e.g. there were four of us so she offered to get dishes served in 3's to be in 4's instead. The service was pretty quick and staggered quite well (intentional or not I'm not sure). We tried a variety of dim sum dishes as well as as the soup noodles and fried noodles. No complaints for any of them. And for dessert, the tiermisu was really good. Overall, I'd definitely be returning or at least ordering some take-away! :-) Good job of bringing dim sum to Leith!

Yelp
Food is nicer than a lot of dim sum places I have been to. But the place is so dirty. The tea pot got tea stain which I can just remove with my finger and there are other food stains on surface of the tea pot, did they even wash it at all after use?? The toilet is disgusting, if I was not desperate I would not used it. In my opinion for any restaurants/ take away if places and things I used and I can see is filthy I cannot image what it would be like in the kitchen where they made the food!!! No matter how nice the food is I will never go back to that place again. It makes me sick just to think about it. Also I noticed the waitress was wearing a 4 inch high-heeled boots. I have never seen a waitress with a 4 inch high-heel boots at work before!!! How did she even manage that?
