Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig, Altes Rathaus

The fact that this museum has free admission is mind blowing to me. It is absolutely fascinating inside. Leipzig has a long and interesting history, and seeing some of the artifacts in the exhibition was very unique. Absolutely must visit when in town.

It’s a nice museum to visit during your free time. If you visit Leipzig, you cannot miss it. It’s for free and offers a good understanding of the background history behind the city we now see. It also happens to be the old city town hall. You’ll find some interesting elements and tons of information in both German and English. The tour lasts 30 to 40 minutes I’d say. The museum is located in the middle of the city center so it’s close to other local attractions, restaurants and even the university. It’s a must!

Our visit was completely free. I found the museum very comprehensive and informative. There were lots of interesting exhibits and plenty of space. The information was displayed in German and English. Such a good museum for fre can't be anything less than five stars. Thanks for the experience!

If you are visiting Leipzig and want to learn a bit more about the history of the city, then this is for sure a must visit Museum! The best part: it is completely free, so there is no reason to not visit it. Loved to learn a bit more about the city I am now living, and specially to go through the developments it has suffered throughout the years, as well as the key part in WW2.

Worth a Quick Look The museum is worth seeing, along with the plaza next to it. You'll see pictures of this building on most postcards and souvenirs in Leipzig, so it's worth taking a quick walk around it and snapping a few good photos. Inside the building, there is an old bookstore and another shop that sells old printed pictures, paintings, or designs of German cities, landscapes, animals, or plants. They cost around 10 Euros. I suggest you don't miss this shop; they can be a great souvenir, or even a nice picture you can frame and hang on your wall. It might be the best souvenir you can buy from Leipzig.

A wonderful museum about post-war east Germany. English translations on most of the plaques, and very informative displays. The current (temporary) Ukrainian Photo exhibition is also very powerful and moving. Best of all, entry and bag storage is free. If you need to kill a few hours, this is a great place to do it. I loved my visit and learned a lot.

Outstanding historic museum describing the life in East Germany between 1945 and the fall of Berlin's wall. Impressive and touching at the same time. The museum is well furnished, with no entrance fee. The descriptions are available in both German and English, a must. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!

A good historical and art museum about Leipzig. And it's even free! Plan to spend an hour to an hour and a half. Highly recommend!
