Staffin Museum ( Dinosaur fossils and other artifacts)

This small museum has a wonderful collection of paleontological specimens, archaeology and local recent history information including plight of crofters. Housed in a beautifully restored old school house, the collections are well curated accompanied by contextual information and background. Well worth a visit. 👍👍👍

The entrance fee costs 5 pounds. This place is quite interesting with story, however the main archaeologist's grandson who is currently overseeing the place, mentioned we can't take photos. I found it so strange and were disappointed. These are the photos i could manage to click and would love to share some fossils had he not restricted us to take pictures.

Beware! There be dinosaurs in these parts! :) This museum may appear small, but it packed full of dinosaur history for Isle of Skye. On display are fossils and other artifacts. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful with any questions you may have. They do have small shop that you can by local made items and even fossils. This is a very nice stop.

Worth it. So humble. A beautiful trésor and village. The women at the dask was Caroline and she was very welcoming, passionate, a pure soul. The fossil and also the one that was given by kids and other people, I love how you give credits and we've learn so much about the people. Theres a lot of stuff about big monument and castle in Scotland but what I want to know the most is about the little abandonned house, about the crofters and I've learn a lot over there. We loved it so much and the dinosaur turquoise photo on the wall was just so beautiful and mysterious. I'm still amazed by it.

Wonderful small family-owned museum of Skye fossils! We were guided by the daughter of the founder who was so friendly and knowledgeable. Great to visit the beach to see the footprints there after visiting. Highly recommended- a standout highlight of our trip to Skye.

This was not a planned stop but I am so happy we passed by and went. The owner is fascinating and has lots of stories to tell about the fossils in the museum. The museum is small (in an old schoolhouse) but most of the items in it are actual fossils, not reproductions. He also has some vintage and antique estate items for sale. I found some treasures to take home - my favorite souvenirs from Scotland.

What an absolute little treat of a museum with a charming foundation story. Very happily paid the entry price to see all the excellent specimens. It’s a small museum (just one room) but the objects are of great quality and beautifully presented. Plus it is a real treat to see them here on Skye in the very landscape they were found… and in a building that was built and is managed by the very family that collected them. The daughter of the founder of the museum was the keeper on the day we visited. She was super friendly and knowledgeable, and got the balance of giving us a good introduction and allowing us to browse while still being available for questions. A family were visiting the same time as we were and she was wonderfully engaging with the children. A great little stop , and would highly recommend if you’re even a bit interested in dinosaurs, fossils etc.

Small but it's important to note that everything in here is an actual fossil not a casted copy. I watched some people refusing to go in because it costs £5/ person - less than the price of a pint of beer in many places. Well worth the money in my opinion.and is staffed by people who are only too happy to explain everything. PS the museum itself is in a building brought back from a ruin by the guy who started finding the fossils as a teenager 50 years ago.
