STAGE 12 Hotel by Penz (Innsbruck, Tyrol) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Innsbruck manages to cram in more high culture and alpine magnificence than other capitals thrice its size. Whatever you’re here for, you might as well situate yourself in the center of the action, right on the old town square. Stage 12 Hotel by Penz adds some stylish panache to a historic building, an easy walk from any landmark that comes to mind. Parquet flooring and mid-century design gestures enliven the rooms, which are surprisingly quiet given the centrality of the locale. Spring for a balcony room if you can — the alpine view will make your morning, every morning." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel is located in a very central and easy to access area. Tourism central and I don't mind it. The rooms are clean, and the breakfast is very good no complaints! The bad stuff: 1. Beds are not comfortable and very cheap. 2. Bed pillows are very uncomfortable and offer little to no head support. 3. Hotel service is very poor. I had asked the front desk for extra pillows. I asked late in the evening when the hotel was not busy. The employee responded that they will send pillows up right away... the pillows never arrived. Ok. 4. Breakfast service. An employee named Daniel who seated us for breakfast was incredibly rude and possibly mentally disturbed. When we arrived to be seated he looked around the half empty breakfast area and said they had no seating available and offered instead to sit us at the bar. Very odd because the bar was closed, lights off, no one was working that area at 9 in the morning. It was completely closed. I asked why we couldn't be seated in the normal breakfast area where we had been eating the previous mornings without issue and he then hesitantly found a table we could sit at. The table he directed us to was then taken over by another couple. I asked him what we should do and he said just sit at another table. Later during our meal he was walking around and I stopped him and asked for his name. We felt that we were being discriminated against at most, and at best we experienced a very rude dude who should check his attitude next time.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. The room (“with panoramic view”) had a nice view and was decent size. However the sheets as well as the dressing gowns had holes in them, and the curtains had been installed in such a way that they didn’t close all the way, leaving light from outside shining onto the bed all night long. Staff at the reception were mostly nice but gave us conflicting information and were not very helpful when we complained about our room not getting cleaned. The breakfast was OK, but nothing to write home about. The worst part of the stay was the room service. Two days in a row we were out and about from 10am to 4pm and came back to a room not cleaned. Staff said they could only clean our room between 4:30 and 5pm. We asked them to come earlier next day, and they said they would but didn’t, claiming that the hotel was too busy. When they did clean, the clean was very superficial, and in fact they did not bother to take away all the trash, leaving behind e.g. used beer glasses. The table was never wiped, and the bathroom was given only a cursory clean. Our water glasses were not changed once over our 5 day stay, so I had to wash them myself at the bathroom sink. Overall I have seen higher hygiene standards in 3rd world motels.

Hotel is in the very heart of the city. Room was big and they even give us slipers. The breakfast was phenomenal: so many exotic fruits. As we arrived very early in the morning the hotel had our luggage stored no problem. What I found infuriating was the lack of sofas in the lobby, there was realy no place to sit. Even though the room was big, but there was not really that much space to put clothes in as in half of the closet was safe and minibar. Not to mention the view from the window which was to a very bright hallway (fortunately the curtains were doing their job so we could sleap well enough).

Nightmare hotel. After a long day of traveling, we were told to wait five hours for our room. When we returned that evening, we had to wait an additional two hours. Like other reviews state, the desk staff were very rude to certain foreign guests. But the worst was when I used the elevator. It became stuck and I was trapped inside. I pushed the emergency button and waited for a long time, but they never answered. I had no cell phone signal. Finally, after beating on the door, a maid was able to open the door and let me out. She said, “it happens all the time.” The rooms were small and bleak. This hotel was the worst part of our visit to Austria.

Had car trouble driving through Europe and got an unplanned stay in Innsbruck for three nights. Couldn't be luckier with the hotel we ended up in. Very friendly staff who gave us a lot of tips on what to do. The room was super, and the spa area was lovely and not very busy. Nice little gym room too.

Google
The hotel is nice overall and has a lovely location. However, we were extremely frustrated that we paid extra to have a "mountain view" and got a room where you could see the edge of the mountains, the photo here was taken from the corner of the room with my stomach touching the TV, so realistically there was no mountain view. Our refrigerator also was broken and we weren't able to get ice in our room, so we had to give anything refrigerated to the service desk and then pick it up, which was extremely inconvenient traveling with a child who needed milk. When I asked the reception for a discount given that we didn't have access to our own fridge for 3 nights, she told us that having to drop it off at the desk (which meant waiting for 10 minutes in the lobby every time) was acceptable because "we were offered an alternative"

Google
This is a great hotel in a great location. The rooms are clean and modern and the bathroom is spacious (picture included). Room also includes air conditioning, which as an American I find important. The view from the room is of the Alps, which is incredible. Plenty of restaurants and bars near the hotel, but still quiet. The hotel itself also has an excellent bar as well as a sauna and gym.

Room was great and service was friendly. Breakfast is expensive but good options. Many of the luggage lockers are broken and do not lock, so hang onto valuables.

Yelp
This is a fantastic hotel, especially if you book a mountain view room with balcony on the top floor - a bit more cost but totally worth it. Our room has the bed facing the huge picture window - and with the huge balcony (big enough to have a party on) having clear barriers the view's unobstructed and simply stunning, you'd never get tired of looking at it. Bed is firm, good shower (also has a view as it's glass encased and at one end of room - only the toilet has a door). The hotel is quite new - opened in 2017, stylish and modern, with bar and restaurant and shady courtyard. Breakfast is an optional add on, not cheap at $20 (maybe less if included at booking) but is a very good one with a huge variety of everything, a sumptuous continental with a hot egg/sausage dishes. This is also the only hotel on this trip where we used the spa repeatedly - the steam room and 2 saunas were fabulous, spacious and not crowded (No attendants). Location is excellent as well, on a pedestrian street packed with shops, restaurants, grocery stores, right on the edge of old town. It's one km distance from the train station so a bit of walk or can take the tram from there (#5 for 2 stops to Rathausgalerien - an indoor shopping plaza next to the hotel). They don't provide coffee or tea (I was told there is a vending machine somewhere in the building for that), but there is an electric kettle in the room. They provide the free Innsbruck transportation card for the trams etc for 2+ night stays (you might have to remember to ask).

Yelp
This hotel is very walkable to everything and has friendly staff, but I cannot give a hotel 5 stars if you don't have coffee in the rooms, period. The Mountain View is ok (other Innsbruck hotels have better), the AC in July was most welcome, and the shower was nice. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast buffet was great. I didn't love their coffee in the breakfast room either though.

Yelp
We needed to leave our scheduled accommodations. Stage 12 had a room available, so I booked it. The employees of this hotel are the kindest I've ever met in the hospitality business. From the young woman who secured my reservation, to the young man who made me a cappuccino in the very early morning........Everyone was cheerful, helpful and genuine! This is a newer hotel......So there's clearly much attention to detail. Our "family" room was spacious, comfortable and clean. (Our room didn't have views, but that wasn't a priority for us.) It had a safe, refrigerator, kettle, instant coffee/teas, and plenty of electrical sockets. Towels were plush, but not overwhelmingly heavy. Wonderfully deep soaking tub. The spa, including 2 saunas & a steam room, was beautiful and very relaxing. We were also provided with plush robes for the spa area. The outdoor bar was a welcome, quiet, respite from the noise and hustle of the Old Town. We didn't have breakfast, however there's a large breakfast area with what looked like a broad variety of both hot & cold foods. (I thought the coffee was quite good.) Tables were fully set, waiting for guests to arrive. Finally, the hotel has a complementary laundry room. (Including soap!) The laundry facility has 2 washers/dryers, an iron & ironing board, and drying racks. Everything in Stage 12 perfectly suited our needs. The employees were beyond expectation. And the rates were reasonable. I can highly recommend Stage 12 to anyone visiting Innsbruck!

Yelp
I had the most wonderful time at Stage12 with my girlfriend in my 3 days. Excellent food, friendly staff, beautiful room with a nice view, and the hotel director (Christopher) was one of the most kind, earnest, and thoughtful men I've ever met. Truly a pleasure. If I ever return to Innsbruck I know where I will stay.
