Hotel has the best view ever and great history! We had a private dinner in an ancient museum building. Our server, Grata, was so good. All the staff was very professional. The general manager there does an amazing tour of the museum behind the hotel. Very nice hikes nearby too.

A great location and nice for walks down the mountain. Nice place To live in. The staff was very cooperative whilst booking. Though they initially said that they close down on our days, they got back to offer us the booking when their closing date changed due to a conference. They offered the rooms even without advance.

I haven't stayed here, I just came to view the nature around it. I have to say that the valley view from here is one of the most beautiful ones in the Norwegian landscape. I certainley recommend it.

We visited in September and had lunch in the hotel. Spectacular views of the valley and watching the clouds float by. The hotel grounds have a small bunker that points out toward the valley as well. Small bistro menu selection for lunch at the hotel, but generous portion sizes.

And what a view! Iconic and awesome. The location was deal for hiking and natural beauty. Comfortable inside, too, and clean with large rooms and efficient, helpful staff. Also the assistant manager is a trove of knowledge about local culture and history, providing tours of preserved buildings nearby, dating from the 1500s on and including a schoolhouse. Delicious food too. Overall, an excellent experience.

Great view! Interesting old hotel. My only complaint is the room. It was so dated, and the bathroom smelled of mildew. The shower is one of those without walls so it sprays all over the floor. And hot water was only sometimes.

The hotel is a view with a room, the facilities are a bit outdated and the bus tour traffic should be better controlled but the view is incredible and the staff are unbeatable. The service that Greta gives our groups at the museum barn dinners is unbeatable. She has always been so on top of service, dietary restrictions and allergies, runs a tight ship but is at the same time approachable and friendly and fun.

After failing to find accommodations closer to my planned fjord tour, I “settled” on the Stahlheim despite others comments about the large tour groups.|I’m very glad I did. Yes, there are many bus tours here but I thought the hotel did a good job with them while not ignoring solo travelers such as myself.|The dinner buffet was the only option my first night, but it was quite extensive and varied. The next night I ordered a peach salad and fish entree. Both very good as well. The waiter was helpful and had me sample the cheese in the salad when I inquired. |Great view from the terrace out back. See photo. When I later did a Nutshell loop, the bus stopped here to allow tourists 15 minutes to take pictures.|Lots of interesting photos, paintings and artifacts.|There was a recommended hike nearby but I didn’t have time to do it.|If ever back in the area I will book here, maybe trying to nab the room across the hall, which CondeNast once listed as one of the hotel rooms with the best view in the world. Mine was a small single bed room but entirely adequate.

Yelp
Came here as a coffee and pastry break during a tour. Highlights: * the back terrace is the place to sit back and relax as it has amazing views of the Nærøy Valley * there is a rather larger gift shop that is split into multiple levels * the restrooms are located on the lower lever, and there was an elevator for those who couldn't use the stairs * they was a mini museum that was made of of various items from the previous hotel owners collection *the did off a nice gluten free brownie ***the main road getting into the hotel is narrow and two way, though really wide enough for a single car in a section, so there might be a brief queue when tour buses arrive/depart

Yelp
The journey was one that lasted all day. We left Bergen by van, spending time at a sheep farm in the foothills and then on to an old train up into the mountains, switching to a modern train, then back to a van to drive through beautiful Norway mountains to stay a few nights at this very old, many times renovated, historic hotel. Forgive the long sentence, but that encapsulated the journey here. This is a tourist hotel with assigned eating times to accommodate the various international travel groups. Food was buffet and decent, with hot plates and then a generous salad bar and an area of special items, like baked salmon and specific local dishes. Very efficiently operated and the food was good. Rooms were basic, nothing fancy, but very clean. A small bar is opposite the gift shop that is next to the check-in area. There is an elevator, but the stairs are easy with only three floors in the hotel. The vistas are amazing as you stand on a patio looking down on the steep Naeroy Valley far below. Their web page has this stunning view. Walking away from the hotel is a former village of wood houses and businesses. Nothing is operating or open to enter, so it appears that this is a collection of traditional buildings that were there or brought there over time to preserve them. Lots of trees, bushes and quiet. Very romantic to walk about here. Comfortable and you can arrange tours from here into the surrounding area.

Yelp
It was a long, complicated journey from Bergen to Flam that took nearly six hours starting with the train, then being assigned to a bus, and finally cruising on a fjord boat. Luckily, the scenery did a lot to compensate for the complexities, and this brief stopover on the bus leg was an unexpected pleasure. Instead of stopping at a roadside rest area, we were left off at this atmospheric hotel for not only a coffee break but interesting historic antiques in the lobby and a beautiful view of the steep Naeroy Valley even as the fog threatened to blanket it all (photo: https://bit.ly/3DLAKYK). Jamie W. and I felt bad because the hotel was clearly short-staffed, and the woman running the gift shop was also fulfilling the coffee orders. Oh well, back to the bus. RELATED - Exploring Norway? Yelp
I didnt stay her but just came back quietly to see the view from the back of the hotel because so many places recommended to see the view from here. You park out front, walk through the lobby and see a glimpse of this very traditional hotel to the back, and BAM! Just a breathtaking view that words can't describe and isn't the same unless you see it in person. Pictures don't do it justice. I don't know about the hotel but if I could wake up to that view, I don't think I would complain staying here.

Yelp
Conde Nast rightly called the view from room 324 one of the best of any hotel in the world; any fjord side room would probably do the trick, and in any event, the view is best enjoyed with breakfast down on the terrace. But the coolest thing about this hotel is that you can stoke the wood-burning (as if there were any other kind) fireplace in the grand atrium late into the wee hours. Do keep the logs in the back corner, unless you want to smoke up the hotel. Decent food, less cosmopolitan than in Oslo or Bergen. Very humble guest rooms. Like many European showers, whether in hotels or homes, this hotel's suffer from obvious self-inflicted safety defects: slippery, small, sloped floors (i.e., bathtubs) with high walls. Have a raincoat handy if you're coming from the bus stop! It's always sprinkling (or more) here and the hike is about a mile up the mountain.
