"Stallmästaregården began its life as a somewhat rural stablemaster’s farm. This was before Queen Kristina decided, in 1645, that she wanted to host her midsummer festivities here, at which point the stablemaster rapidly transformed the farm into an inn. Now, despite being within the city limits, Stallmästaregården feels like a rural retreat, flanked as it is by the expansive Royal Haga Park and scenic Brunnsviken Bay, in addition to its own verdant gardens. A painstaking restoration and redesign has left the onetime farm still rustic and homey, true to its 17th-century inn background, while simultaneously infusing it with healthy doses of both midcentury and contemporary Scandinavian design. The true star is the restaurant, an unpretentiously stylish destination that serves gourmet Swedish cuisine to discerning locals and out-of-towners against a picturesque natural backdrop. But the best part comes when everyone goes home and the inn is left to the guests."
The rooms are top notch. (The best water pressure I can remember having in a shower anywhere! Invigorating!) The restaurant is great... Dinner was amazing! A good selection of local dishes. Service couldn't be beat with every interaction. Friendly, helpful, giving extra multiple times. Highly recommend! Note - One of our rooms was a junior suite that had a second floor bedroom. We liked the living room downstairs and bedroom upstairs. The stairs were quite steep and could be a challenge for some. No issue for us, but something to be aware of.

I had booked another Design hotel months ago with a water view. I ended up cancelling it because I read that it didn’t give elite members any benefits. Then I found this hotel, which seemed to offer elite members more. As soon as we arrived I was so glad about my change. The setting of this hotel is so peaceful and relaxing. I was graciously welcomed and got upgraded to a view of the garden. You feel more like you are in a country house than a boring hotel. There is some road noise even with the garden view if you keep the windows open, but I get more annoyed by other guests slamming their doors than road noise and always play white noise at night to avoid this. I was also pleasantly surprised that breakfast was included—a complaint I had seen about the other design hotel. In the comments I address prices re cabs to deal with the hotel’s walking distance from main part of town and the fact that public transportation is not much faster than walking. I would gladly stay here again (one critique: you can’t message through bonvoy app and I couldn’t get phone to work. I asked for safe to be fixed while I was at breakfast, which other hotels have done, and it was not fixed. No big deal… but when I got back hours later it still hadn’t been fixed. Update: staff knocked on my door and said they couldn’t repair the safe but said they could move me to another room)

The hotel style, friendly and helpful staff, quality of food, location on the lake and ease to reach Stockholm centre (walk or bus) made for a fantastic stay, would choose this hotel again.

We booked 4 night stay for a wedding at the hotel. Ridiculous management and unprofessional service. There were maintenance works with drilling, hammering, loud sounds every day starting at 7 in the morning. We could not sleep. We reported to reception many times but the workers ignored all and keep making noise from early morning hours. Be careful if you decide to stay in this hotel unless you are a builder so you might give a hand to help them complete their renovations.

This adorable landmark with historic roots going back to the 16-hundreds was known (to me) for its restaurant with delicious food and lavish julbord spreads, but this is the first time I’ve stayed in the hotel. The service on arrival was professional and check-in was smooth. My room was far, far away from reception at the very end of the corridor but that also means no traffic from other guests passing by outside your room. The room itself was roomy and clean with stylish and quirky furniture but the view of the road and roadworks was not ideal. No road noise though so great marks for that. I only have two complaints about the room and that is the shower (unless you’re 2ms tall you won’t be able to attach the shower head to the holder on the wall) and the room temperature (too hot and no way to control this).
I’m going to mention two other things about staying at the hotel - one bad and one good. If you are planning on going anywhere by public transport you will be in for a bit of a trek. Not only are there major road works going on around here but the hotel is on the outskirts of central Stockholm and walking in to the city center will be about 30-45 minutes. Getting a taxi is easy but does cost a bit extra. However, the location of this place whether you visit the hotel or go for a meal is one of the biggest selling points. On the edge of Brunnsviken you are right by an immensely popular outdoor area, Hagaparken (where the future queen of Sweden has her residence). You are close to Stockholm University, Karolinska Sjukhuset and many more (though you may need to consider extra time for transport. If the sun is shining (summer or winter), go for a walk (around Brunnsviken for example will take a few hours but offers a few options to stop for a fika) or go for a run. Stallmästaregården is a very good starting point for time outdoors and quite a decent hotel.

The hotel was really lovely and great value for the money. The staff were attentive and professional. The food at breakfast and dinner were delicious! The hotel is on a lovely lake by walking paths and a park. We could walk to the old town within 15 minutes or take a bus/train. We would recommend to anyone visiting Stockholm!

One of my favourite hotels I have stayed in. Gorgeous décor, really comfortable beds, excellent breakfast and a great location on the edge of a lake. I would love to return one day.

The setting was lovely. The room was comfortable, particularly the spacious bathroom. The restaurant was absolutely top notch for dinner and offered a beautiful breakfast each morning. The reception staff and the restaurant staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Our only regret was that our stay was too brief.
