Ghent City Museum blends medieval charm and modern tech with interactive exhibits, stunning art, and rich local history in a vibrant, family-friendly space.
"Modern Design meets Traditional Architecture The new and high-tech city museum of Ghent is well worth a visit. Interactive exhibits make the museum fun for all ages, but it's the contrast of modern and ancient that is truly unique. The STAM is located on the larger Bijloke site. Now a haven for culture, not far from Ghent’s historic centre, the Bijloke was once an abbey, convent and hospital. Highlights of the museum include: donning booties so you can stand on a giant map of Ghent, the restored vaulted ceilings of the medieval refectory and the exhibition on Ghent's most famous work of art, The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. Kids will enjoy the giant Lego table with models of Ghent's famous bell-towers."
For my age range, tickets were only €2.50. It's definitely worth it to go and visit. There's a lot of beautiful art and paintings and a lot of information about the history of Ghent. There are some rooms where you can interact and make some things yourself. Could write your name on a wall and pick up some postcards. The picture of Ghent from above is also very pretty and definitely worth a visit when ur in Ghent!

An interesting museum where you can learn about the history of Ghent, roughly a 25 minute walk from the city centre. The rooms are set up nicely and contain artefacts and interactive displays. Merchandise can be bought at the entrance.

It was fun learning about the History of Ghent. My friend and I try to go to the city museums whenever we’re in a new city. This museum did not disappoint. The Ghent city card grants access to this and many other sites around this medieval marvel of a city. I will suggest that you buy the city pass at your first attraction and only activate it when you have a few places in your itinerary.
Try to take public transportation or walk if you can. Parking in these medieval cities can be challenging, especially on weekends. Plenty of families with children running around to keep you on your toes.

Get the Gent city pass. You can see all of these museums and get free public transit (including water taxi!) Usually, city museums are my favorite. This one had some gems, but it wasn't as indepth as a nerd like me would have liked. Although the abbey it's housed in is awesome, and there are really cool artifacts. Kids seemed to enjoy it as well. There were activities sprinkled throughout for them.

Map room was good. Thought the audio info in each room was good but would have appreciated a chair as they're quite long.
Touch screen displays to get info about each object also good.

It's a delightful place to explore the history of Belgium and Ghent. The welcoming staff and convenient amenities like coat storage and lockers enhance the experience. The exhibit begins with a captivating satellite photo of Ghent, followed by well-organized rooms showcasing various historical periods. The cleanliness and thoughtful design add to its appeal. After your visit, grabbing a coffee or snack at the cafe is a nice touch, although it can get crowded due to its limited size. Parking may be a challenge on busy days, so plan accordingly.

A fabulous museum in a wonderful building. Also a great cafe/restaurant - would thoroughly recommend the buffet lunch. Not cheap but exceptional food. A great one to do early and is included in the citi pass scheme.

Short review: worth every euro
Long review: I really love interactive museums, yes, it shows the history of Ghent, but in unique and amazing way, and there are some small things to read about everything you see, lots of things to interact with and different stories you can hear. Me and my friends fall in love with it and if you are planning to visit - make sure you have at least 2 hours for full experience of STAM!
