"There are a lot of good places in the city, like Stamba Hotel."

A Local’s Guide to Georgia

"Set the scene. This grand brutalist monolith in Tbilisi's up-and-coming Vera district stands out for its contrasts: an industrial skeleton of raw concrete beams brought to life with lush hanging plants and antique chandeliers; double-height spaces made cozy with buttery leather sofas and floor-to-ceiling shelves of vintage books. What's the story?Stamba is set in a former Soviet printing house, with quirky elements of the building preserved, such as the Communist-era print-drying beam in the atrium. It’s the latest property by Georgian hotel group Adjara, the team behind Tbilisi’s edgy design hostel Fabrika and Rooms Hotel Kazbegi in the Caucasus Mountains. What can we expect in our room?Impressive modern kit such as in-room La Marzocco espresso machines and McIntosh stereo systems. The centerpiece of the Aviator Signature Room is a freestanding brass tub; beside a salvaged wood wall is a king-size cloud of a bed and a woolly papasan chair for curling up in. How about the food and drink?Cafè Stamba—sumptuously outfitted with mint-green leatherette booths, blue brick walls and loads of plants—serves up a mix of Georgian comfort-food classics such as kharsho (braised veal stew) and familiar favorites (ceviche and risotto), to both guests and savvy locals. The on-site-roasted coffee is exceptional. Anything to say about the service?Staff can seem a tad stiff, but don’t take it personally; there’s no insincere smiliness in this part of the world. Who comes here?A motley crew that ranges from Russian bigwigs and Eastern European oligarchs to Japanese influencers and fashion models, via German back-to-nature types. Strike up a conversation in the breakfast buffet line and you might find a new travel companion or business partner. How does it fit into the neighborhood?Adjara Group has single-handedly turned the Vera neighborhood into Tbilisi's modern nerve centre for fashion, food and the arts. Wander the streets that wind uphill from the hotel and you'll come across experimental clothing boutiques, candlelit wine bars (Sulico is a favourite), and nouveau-Georgian restaurants such as Keto and Kote. Anything else we should know?Everyone's treated like a VIP in Stamba's Roaring Twenties-themed casino, whose crystal chandeliers and croupiers in red harken back to the louche gentlemen’s clubs of the USSR. Drinks on the gambling floor and in the lobby-level Pink Bar spotlight locally distilled spirits like Georgian limoncello and Sarajishvili cognac. Want more? The hotel's Bell 505 JRX helicopter can whizz you over to Rooms Hotel Kazbegi, the group’s super-smart chalet high in the Caucasus. And anything you'd change?Certain things, such as laundry and room service, are overpriced. Is it worth it—and why?Stamba isn't just the best hotel in Georgia today—it's one of the best urban hotels in the northern hemisphere." - Benjamin Kemper

"The third installment from Adjara makes the local rock-and-roll hotel group’s Rooms and Fabrika properties—both game-changing, both achingly cool for their time—feel like warm-up acts to headliner Stamba. Occupying a Soviet-era printing house, the hotel struts that building’s original Brutalist bones, from its unpolished concrete beams to its double-height ceilings and gilded bathtubs fit for Tamar the Great. It’s far more glamorous than the cozy, vintage-Brooklyn-style interiors that Rooms ran with in 2005—and the rooms here are much more spacious. The overall feel is far from austere, because of the floor-to-ceiling shelves of antique books, collection of tropical plants that borders on a mini rainforest, and sumptuously upholstered furniture—good luck getting back up after sinking into one of those wool-lined moon chairs. Gadgets and McIntosh stereo systems make it easy to stay behind guest room doors, but then visitors would miss out on the chandeliers and red-clad croupiers of Casino Aviator, which recalls the louche gentlemen’s clubs of the USSR. Drinks on the gambling floor and in the lobby-level Pink Bar put the focus on locally distilled spirits such as Sarajishvili brandy. Any morning-after headaches are cured with an adjarian khachapuri, or egg-crowned cheese bread, baked to order at Stamba Café. Tbilisi has emerged as one of Eastern Europe’s most dynamic cities, and Stamba cranks the energy levels up a notch. FLASH POINT The hotel has its own Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopters: the fastest way to hop up to Rooms Hotel Kazbegi, the group’s chic chalet high in the Caucasus. +995 322-02-11-99; stambahotel.com. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. Rooms and restaurant were great and we had great time at the city. Their restaurant is great, very professional service and good quality food. Also rooms are really cool with very interesting design. Also the staff who did our check in was great and he helped us a lot with the city, very kind gentleman. ||On the other hand let me tell you where this took a turn. Throughout our stay we couldn’t get hot water. 1st day it was at least Luke warm which was enough and we didn’t wanna cause a scene, however 2nd day we had no hot water! Just to let you know Tbilisi was 0 degrees when we were there. And my wife is 4 months pregnant, we informed the reception and we were informed that engineering will come yet nobody came to the room for 15 minutes. We were in a hurry and we took a cold shower and told them to cancle. Upon check out nobody ask our experience so I took the liberty of mentioning hot water issue to the receptionist, she just said “thank you for letting us know! Anything from minibar?” I said “i think for a 5 star hotel this is unacceptable I will place a review so others don’t get affected” no answer and after some silence would you like to see your bill? ||Im sorry but if you don’t care about guest experience you won’t stay in the hospitality market for too long. Only reason we don’t give lower points is, the service we got in the restaurant and the room design. This level of guest handling deserves much lower points!

We didn’t stay in the hotel rooms, but we visited the building, explored the floors, admired the interior, and enjoyed a meal at the café. The food was delicious—we had borscht, or rather, something like cold beet soup. It was a fascinating experience to visit this place with its unique design and unconventional approach. Everything felt unusual and intriguing. I highly recommend visiting—you’ll be amazed by the scale and style that give this place an extraordinary charm.

Definitely stay at Stamba for an authentic Georgian hospitality experience in Tbilisi. In addition to its unique interior concept and spacious rooms, the F&B performance is just as impressive: I had one of the best fish dishes ever at Café Stamba. Be sure to try their homemade truffles as well. One other thing that stands out in my memory is the helpfulness of the bellboys. I had an amazing stay and can’t wait to return to Stamba, but I will also check into other hotels in its group across Georgia. Highly recommended!

Terrific quick stay at the Stamba. With shops, cafe, hotel, garden, bar, workspace, chocolateria and greenhouse etc, it's a whole world unto itself and we enjoyed just staying in and enjoying the hotel. We got upgraded to a wonderful big room with high ceilings and a copper bathtub on the terrace which made for a delightful outdoor bath on a chilly night. And loved the high ceillings, artwork, record player, coffee maker and all the other room features. Really atmosphere and relaxing. Also had a very nice dinner at the restaurant and ordered room service for breakfast. Note, our room service card never got picked up from the door as stated, so we ended up having to bring it down to the front desk in the morning, but aside from that, the service was terrific. Special shoutout to Lasha who doubles as bellboy and concierge and was extremely helpful and friendly at every turn - helping us do everything from arranging a car service to buying something from the shop after hours. I definitely recommend the hotel's shops for last minute gifts/souvenirs, by the way. Anyway, loved everything about the Stamba and would happily go back.

The chicest hotel in Georgia, with stunning, moody interiors that feel straight out of a Wes Anderson film. The vibe, in general, reminded me of the Gramercy Park Hotel.||We booked the Aviator Room, which was gorgeous and huge! The bed was super comfortable and the linens were luxe.||The reception staff went above and beyond, assisting us with securing hard to get tickets to a local show.||Visiting the cafe is a must, with the best khachapuri we had in Georgia and a phenomenal pistachio cake.||The only drawback was the dark lighting in the bathroom, which made getting ready challenging. Other than that, it was a perfect stay.

Stayed in Stamba hotel and very disappointed with the service… First they were knocking on the door that clearly had a “do not disturb” sign on it. When we did not open after some time they came back and were knocking until we opened. Reason - they wanted to check the phone that was not working properly even nobody asked for it. Unacceptable. Confusion around parking ticket, it showed 92 gel while should have been for free for guests and lots of hassle and time lost after check out. Also during check in they ask you for a deposit for mini bar, and if don’t want to leave the deposit reception lady tell you “okay you have to wait then till we clear out the mini bar”. Unheard of and the manager who was at the reception at the moment said in not so friendly tone that this is a standard procedure in hotels. Sorry it is not. Any decent place that takes deposit notifies about it in details of the booking or in a message in advance and definitely wont offer to wait until they clean out the mini bar. And just small details like hotel messaging on when are we coming after we already checked in. Such a shame, awful service ruins your experience in otherwise beautiful hotel.

Google
Service was very good and the location, in front of the mountains, is amazing. The room was nice and the breakfast too ! What I didn’t like are the groups of Russians influencers taking pictures and videos literally everywhere (including spa and swimming pool) and being rude with the staff. It made many other clients uncomfortable and damaged the vibe of the place. 😕 That place is beautiful but not anymore quiet, intimate and peaceful, just be prepared !
