The 8 Best Hostels in Chiang Mai (Updated 2025)

"I found it super social and the best hostel in the city — right on the outskirts of the Old City — with nightly events, an on-site bar open to the public (great happy hour), a tour desk that organizes day trips, and a blackboard where travelers post plans. The larger dorms are basic bunks with no curtains but thick, comfortable mattresses; the smaller dorms offer single beds with little alcoves that feel more private and have AC (the larger eight-person dorms only have a personal fan)." - Matthew Kepnes

If you’re coming to Chiang Mai this is the go to hostel! Originally planned to stay 5 night but extended to 8 and I was sad to leave. The staff are super friendly (shoutout to Happy & Lobster) and are always there if you need help. Each block has its own chill out area and the restaurant/bar area is a great place to meet new people. It’s such a social hostel with different events on every night, we loved the quiz night, Muai Thai and family dinner. The rooms are amazing with each person having their own pod that has a bed, locker, light, plug socket and bedside table. The toilet and shower are also separate in the room which is good. In the restaurant area you can get really tasty food either from the western or Thai menu - also their coffees are AMAZING. If you’re looking for a sociable and lovely hostel with a great vibe, this is the one for you! Highly recommend :)

Stamps Hostel in Chiang Mai was one of the best hostel experiences we’ve had. It’s a super social place with a really welcoming vibe, perfect if you’re looking to meet other travelers. The dorms were clean and thoughtfully designed. Each bed is in a small private cubicle with a curtain, a little nightstand, and a reading light, so you still have your own space even in a shared room. There’s also a large locker under the bed that easily fits a full backpack, which made us feel safe leaving our belongings. We stayed in a 6-bed dorm with good air conditioning (I’d definitely recommend this over the 8-bed dorms, which don’t have AC). The facilities were great too: free filtered water to refill your bottle, and even if you arrive early before check-in, you can already take a shower and relax on the lounge sofas. What really made this hostel special was the atmosphere and the staff. They were incredibly friendly and social, always happy to chat or help out. Every evening there were fun events like a pub quiz or group outings to the party street. It was the perfect balance between chill and fun. Overall, we had an amazing time here and would definitely recommend Stamps Hostel to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. Go for the 6-bed dorm if you want the best experience!

If you're arriving solo into Chiang Mai, there's no better place to stay. The ideal hostel! Friendly staff greet you on arrival, and the dorms are ideal with private half-walls and curtains, light and airy rooms with super comfortable beds with two good quality pillows. Slept really well. The activities on offer are absolutely fantastic - definitely book one of the cooking classes. Super easy to book activities at the front desk, staff are knowledgeable about everything and it's such an easy way to meet people. Very international crowd from all over the place, mostly solo travellers which was ideal. The evening activities are a good laugh and there's absolutely no pressure to drink, but still a great atmosphere. Definitely go to the cabaret show if it's on offer! Brilliant, well-run, funny night out.

In all of my travels in South East Asia, I think this must be one of my favourite hostels to come across. From arrival the staff were so friendly and helpful. The 6 bed dorms are a luxury in the hostel market, as it almost feels as though you have your own private room. Definitely recommend indulging a little for the 6 bed dorms. The hostel runs events every night (the pub quiz being a personal favourite) and the hostel is social at all hours. It is a great place for solo travellers to meet others. Couldn't recommend enough. If you are wanting to book, book as many nights as you are wanting to stay as it is difficult to extend (due to how much everyone loves it)!

I stayed here as a guest a very long time ago, and continue to return because of how much I love this place. The social events very evening as well as the amazing staff make this place feel like home. I have never found another hostel that even comes close to this level of care! Solo backpackers should consider this as the heart of Chiang Mai.

Made so many good friends at Stamps and had amazing experiences on the different tours and evening events that the hostel hosted. The vibe is exactly what I look for as a female solo traveller: social without the pressure of partying/drinking. Plus the facilities are clean and comfortable. Will def recommend and come back! Big thank you to the best staff in the world! <3

If you are looking for a social hostel, you won't find a better one. I was overwhelmed at first by how social it was. If you are looking for a chill, relaxed vibe, I would not choose this hostel. But, to meet people, you can't get better than Stamps. Amazing hostel with some very cool staff and people. Activities all the time--you don't really have to think about meeting people because they facilitate it.
