Well, I am actually here now sitting in the lobby as my spouse finishes up a meeting and I can promise that I will not return here again.
We arrived yesterday after an overnight flight from the US. Check in was uneventful and the staff was courteous. We arrived to our room and were immediately impressed by the luxurious décor. Heavy fabrics and impressive wallpaper set the room apart from the standard Ritz, JWs and Conrads we usually stay in. We had a great evening.
Everything went downhill the next morning. My husband decided to have breakfast and I passed as I usually do not eat a heavy breakfast. I decided to skip breakfast and nibble on some snacks I still had. About 10 mins after my husband left the room, a person puts a key in the door and proceeds to open the door and enter. I leaped to the door and pushed it shut shouting "NO, NO" . The person, a male I determined, said "Oh, sorry" and left. I was shaking, scared and damned pissed off that someone, anyone would open a door without knocking first! I called the front desk and a kind woman answered and listed to me and then stated "Oh, that must have been housekeeping. I'm really sorry, I know exactly how you feel." WTF? You know exactly how I feel? Is this standard operating procedure at this hotel? What person from housekeeping enters without knocking and identifying themselves as housekeeping? It was 09hr and we check out at 12noon, why are you coming to the door anyway? I was floored, shaken and did not want to event take a shower alone at that point.
My husband arrives, I finish dressing and we check out. I then have to wait a few hours as he finishes a meeting with a small group (organized with the hotel). No problem, I think, I'll wait in the lobby sitting area, plug in my laptop and work.
Around 1pm I head over to the restaurant to grab a bit and the only man I see rudely chuckles, "You want to eat here?" "Yes" I reply. He chuckles again and points stating "grab a table in the corner". I think not. You can sit me like a paying customer. I kindly walk out and proceed back to the sofa to wait until my husband finishes his meeting so I can leave.
Customer service is the first priority. I am well versed in staying in hotels and our flight and hotel status clearly notes that. This hotel needs a complete overhaul in customer service, it goes a very long way. Besides the customer service, the housekeeping needs complete training. If I had been traveling alone, I would have left to another hotel.
I do NOT recommend this hotel for single women traveling alone. The staff simply does not care enough.
