Stani - Gastro Obscura

"Athens used to be home to as many 1,600 dairy bars, venues that specialized in yogurt and milk-based dishes, as well as sweets. Of those, Stani is one of only a handful of survivors. Produced since 1931, the speciality here is strained yogurt made from the milk of sheep living on small farms near the city. An order takes the form of a thick dollop, ideally drenched in honey and generously topped with crushed walnuts, both available as optional garnishes. The yogurt is somehow light and rich at the same time, with a pleasantly milky aroma and a bright, subtly tart flavor. After a visit here, you’ll find it hard to go back to your Chobani. There’s a menu that dips into other dairy-related dishes—a slab of sheep milk butter swimming in honey, a glass of whipped cream drizzled with honey (do you sense a theme?), a dish of cream sprinkled with cinnamon – and a glass case filled with sweets, as well as yogurt and cream sold in tubs to-go. They also fry loukoumades, crispy donuts drenched in honey syrup, and serve a few savory dishes, including a delicious spanakopita, a phyllo pastry pie stuffed with feta cheese and spinach. Know Before You Go Located in a small street in Athens’s gritty city center, Stani can be located by the warm, milky aroma that emits from it." - Austin Bush

We tried a variety of items, and each was more delicious than the last. Our personal favorite was the ‘top of the milk with honey’ — an absolute must-try when visiting Stani.

The yogurt made of sheep milk it has a unique flavour. The cream it is simple, tasting like childhood. There are only outdoor tables, so on a very hot day it can be tricky. We enjoyed the experience of tasting yogurt in a traditional dairy store in Athens. The prices are affortable.

We came here twice during our stay. We tried the goat yogurt, sheep yogurt, and kataifi. Would recommend all but our favorite was the sheep yogurt. They had a delicious looking pastry case that we would’ve loved to try if we had more time.

Whipped cream with honey - is it healthy? Absolutely not 😅. But is it delicious? Without a doubt. This place is a whimsical little heaven for anyone who loves indulgent dairy treats with a sweet twist. Totally worth the guilty pleasure!

Absolutely lovely place with amazing greek yoghurt with honey and nuts. Sheep greek yoghurt with honey was the best and I really enjoyed vanilla cream with cinnamon - taster like childhood memories. The quality and taste of food is exceptional, the coffee was also very good. With visiting while staying in Athens!

This is a place I found after seeing it on YouTube. I ordered the yogurt with honey and nuts, along with an espresso. This was truly the most incredible yogurt l've ever had. It wasn't too sour, as some yogurts can be, but had a smooth, creamy flavor that paired perfectly with the honey and nuts. The espresso was also excellent. It was the perfect light dessert to enjoy after a meal. The service was also great-they explained the menu well. This is definitely a place l'd love to revisit if I go back to Athens.

Great Greek yogurt and the kataifi was delicious! The place is small, but the desserts are truly delightful. A lovely spot for a sweet treat.

We had to make a stop to check out the yogurt and desserts, and we’re glad we did. Everything was super tasty and definitely worth taking the time for. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, this place is a solid pick.
