Where to Stay in Istanbul When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"I was just steps from Istanbul’s most iconic sights at Stanpoli Hostel and enjoyed a Turkish-style breakfast on the lovely rooftop terrace with a great view of the historic district; the spacious dorms have reading lights, power outlets, and privacy curtains, the thick mattresses actually let you sleep well, and the friendly staff know the city and share great insider tips." - Matthew Kepnes

This place is a gem. It's a wonderful hostel in a great location with very kind people working there. I arrived in the early morning off a night flight and was delighted to be allowed to leave my bags. When I checked in later, the room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. When I realised that I needed to stay an extra night, they were able to facilitate this. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there are wonderful places to sit outside and also on the roof, where you go for the most amazing breakfast. I feel that the price is very reasonable, in fact more than reasonable for what is offered. For those seeking but budget but excellent place to stay that is near all the main sights, I really recommend it and would not hesitate to stay again.

Very nice stay at this hotel. Price quality it's really good. Must say the breakfast was very simple for it to be indicated on booking as 'excellent'. But the service is great. Room clean and organised. Located close to the big mosk. In a very touristy area.

I reached out right after checking out because I realized I left some clothes behind, but the hostel wasn’t helpful at all. The response took a long time, and the staff didn’t seem to actually check anything properly. There was no explanation of what might have happened, and overall the place felt really disorganized when it comes to handling lost items. It didn’t give me any confidence that personal belongings are safe here. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Extremely Disappointed, Totally Unprofessional My experience at Spantol Hostel in Istanbul was a complete disaster. I reserved a room, drove 7 hours to get there, and when I arrived, the manager told me my room was not available, without giving any clear or reasonable explanation. It completely ruined my visit plans and schedule. It was already late at night, and I couldn’t find any other available place to stay, so I had to drive another 7 hours back to my destination. On top of that, I still haven’t received my refund. This level of mismanagement is unacceptable. If you value your time, money, and plans, I strongly suggest avoiding this place. The management needs to improve their communication, professionalism, and how they handle reservations. Tip for anyone considering this hostel: If you decide to book, make sure to call ahead and confirm your room is actually available before traveling. It might save you from the same frustration I went through.

The room was comfortable with lovely white bedding. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Osman was awesome, he allowed me to leave a suitcase at Stanpoli while we toured the rest of Turkey. Breakfast was good! The hostel was close to Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, the Blue Mosque, Arasta Bazaar as well as close to the tram station, Sultanahmet.

Great experience at Stanpoli Hostel. The location was perfect for a first timer in Istanbul - very close to the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Hagia Sofia and many areas of interest. All the staff were very helpful and breakfast on the rooftop terrace was a nice way to start the day with a view out to the water and the shipping traffic. Our room was plenty spacious for two (a private double) and water pressure was great. We also appreciated the air conditioning as the days are very hot in July.|Will stay again if we make it back to the city as there is much more to see!

Fantastic experience at Stanpoli! Very clean, comfy beds, kind and helpful staff, and perfect location with a 5 min walk to Arasta Bazaar and surrounded by shops and beautiful outdoor restaurants, 10 min walk to Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque and to the trams to take you anywhere quickly. Rooftop patio with breathtaking view! Felt super safe even walking late at night back to the hotel. This was our 2nd time staying at Stanpoli and we look forward to a 3rd trip one day. So much to see and do!
