The Most Exciting Hotel Openings of Summer 2025 | Condé Nast Traveler

"Mystic’s hospitality hub, The Whaler’s Inn, adds this freestanding, four-story building that honors the area’s architectural traditions while feeling built for modern travelers, with a mix of guest rooms and suites; the Riverview Penthouse is the one to book for a kitchenette, gas fireplace, and a private 300-square-foot balcony overlooking the Bascule Bridge and Fishers Island Sound. We love that you can order room service from The Shipwright’s Daughter—led by James Beard Award–winning chef David Standridge and beloved by locals and visitors alike—including selections from the restaurant’s private wine cellar, and that it’s an easy eight-minute stroll from the Amtrak station." - Todd Plummer

My wife and I have stayed at Stanton House a number of times over the years, and each visit gets better. Stanton House is a beautifully appointed classic bed and breakfast that has so much to offer on so many levels. The staff are always improving the rooms and the comfort level. We once again enjoyed a room on the second floor that overlooks the front yard. It's beginning to feel like "our room" as the decor, the amenities and comfort level are perfect for us. We're from Florida so we were happy that we were able to keep the room warm. This visit to Stanton House was extra special because of Vish who made us feel like family returning home. He is the model of hospitality and could not have been more helpful with all of our needs and answering our questions, serving the delicious breakfast or bringing us together with other guests who have now become friends. We also appreciate that the Inn Keeper Colin shares a fantastic monthly newsletter that keeps us informed not only about what's new at Stanton House, but also about events for guests to enjoy around the State. We will treasure this year's visit and will look forward to our next.

We had a wonderful stay at Stanton House Inn! The check-in process was quick and easy, and we immediately felt welcomed. Our room was spotless, very comfortable, and beautifully decorated, making it the perfect place to relax after exploring. The inn itself is charming and full of history, you can really tell the owners take pride in maintaining the unique character of the property. The location couldn’t have been better: nestled among gorgeous homes, right next door to a delicious coffee shop, and just minutes from great shopping in Greenwich. What we loved most was how comfortable and peaceful the stay was. The room felt private, and we rarely heard other guests. Everyone we interacted with was kind and pleasant, which made the whole experience even better. There really weren’t any downsides, we truly enjoyed every part of our visit. We’d absolutely recommend Stanton House Inn to anyone looking for a comfortable and charming stay in Greenwich, whether for a relaxing getaway or a trip to explore the area.

The Stanton House Inn, is a perfectly located hotel, surrounded by trees and just a short walk from Greenwich town. The bedrooms while all different (I know because I’m a return customer), are all spacious, traditional and well furnished and the beds comfortable. The included breakfast is delicious and includes an assortment of cereals, bagels, muffins, and custom choices from, frittatas and eggs, to delicious avocado on toast. Snacks and soft drinks, also included in your stay, are available all day and night. Enjoy the newspapers, magazines and books provided in the reading rooms. The staff are all friendly and available for suggestions, whether for exploring the neighborhood or visiting a nearby restaurant. I love this homey Inn and look forward to returning again.

We loved our stay at the Stanton House Inn. It was an ideal location to enjoy fall in Connecticut as well as all New York City has to offer. The Inn is elegant and welcoming-we enjoyed our breakfast there every morning, and coming back at the end of the day to enjoy a cup of tea in the lobby. We loved our room - tasteful, spacious, and sooooo comfortable! We also really appreciated the super friendly staff who give us great recommendations. We can’t wait to stay there again!

Google
Absolutely recommend this inn. Beautiful and comfortable rooms… especially comfy bed felt luxurious. Large pool with pretty landscaping throughout the property. Day lilies and hydrangeas blooming during our stay June into July. Hosts are attentive to anything you may need and breakfast was great…. Muffins, bagels, select dishes from the kitchen, juices and very good coffee to start your morning.

I just returned home from a 10-day, solo Fall getaway. I stayed at a few spots along the Hudson Valley, The Finger Lakes region and New England. I spent 4 nights at the Stanton House Inn, and it was my favorite spot of all! The inn is beautifully appointed. There is a conservatively decorated yet gorgeous sophistication to all of it. I FELT like I was in a New England B+B. It FELT like the real thing, if that makes sense. The gardens in the back were stunning. I wished I spent more time back there, as it truly felt like an oasis. I can see it being a very lovely spot for a small party or even a wedding. And looking at the inn from outside is just as nice as experiencing it from the inside. It has all those charming old, historic features you won’t find in newer structures. I had an excellent massage my first night. My room was very spacious and the bed/pillows very comfortable. I had a small fridge in my room which came in very handy, although I didn’t realize (my own oversight) there was also a microwave I could have used in the first floor common area, just off the living room. Good thing for future patrons to know in advance! There were several hosts over the course of my stay, all of whom were very kind and pleasant. Gill was very sweet and accommodating every step of the way. And, I had an especially wonderful Friday evening conversation with a gentleman whose name sounds like "Veesh", although I am not sure of the spelling. He was filled with stories, knowledge insights and was an absolute delight to talk with. I also had some nice conversations with other guests while lounging in the bar area. Breakfast was very good, although I wish there was a little more variety in selection. I had avocado toast and frittatas which were very appetizing. And I loved the espresso machine! There was also ambient and pleasant music playing in the dining room along with a scented candle (which was very subtle and not overpowering) that added to an already very nice way to start the day. It's these little things that sometimes are the big things! Another great feature, if you will, is that the inn is situated perfectly near any services you may be interested in. I was able to walk to Whole Foods very easily (got there in about 7 minutes!) And, Greenwich Avenue is just a block or two from there. I even walked to the Bruce Museum which was an easier walk than it first appeared on Google Maps! And of course, Greenwich Point Park/Tod’s Point. If you are visiting Greenwich for any reason, you MUST go to Tod’s Point. It was magical. It was just about a 15-20 minute drive from the inn around 11:30 on a Saturday morning. All in all, a great stay. If you are looking for a classically charming New England B+B, this is definitely a spot you should consider! I would certainly come back if the opportunity arose.

Always a great stay! Hosts are very communicative and available via text for any and all questions/ needs. The setting couldn’t be better and rooms have been meticulously maintained. Between the grounds and the stunning historic main house it’s always a pleasure to return for another stay.

The Inn has been beautifully & tastefully restored ..inside and out, rooms are spacious, luxurious & comfortable, the management team is thoughtful & welcoming and the location is just perfect ..a large property set back from the street ..easy walking distance to central Greenwich. And a wonderful breakfast to make things even MORE perfect!! Bravo!!!

Yelp
We were looking for a last minute getaway during memorial weekend, Hubby came across this place, price & location were reasonable so we decided to give it a try. Easy to get too from the city by train & then it's about a 5 minute cab ride. we checked in Sunday morning, room was not yet ready no biggie we changed into our bathing suits & went to relax by the pool. They provide towels, snacks & water which was nice. We had room #30 which was really nice basically like a small apartment, nice bed, jacuzzi tub, fridge very pretty & comfortable w nice toiletries to use. our second day unfortunately had a cloudy & rainy start so we didn't get to enjoy the pool but instead were able to relax in the jacuzzi tub very nice & relaxing. Morning breakfast was decent some , bagels, fruit & pastries they also offered a Quiche option, Chorizo & a Spinach & cheese both not bad, chorizo was better. you had a choice of water, juice , ice tea or coffee .. OJ & coffee both good. This is a nice property when u walk in u feel like u are in someone's home, which is nice, the outside patio/ pool area is cute with seating outside & by the pool a nice way to just relax. it was very quiet not really much of anything going it was a really relaxing weekend which is exactly what we were looking for. we had an enjoyable stay, will keep this place in mind for future plans.

Yelp
Had a great weekend away out of the city. Place is clean / tidy and well run. They have around 20 rooms spread over 3 floors. The house is inviting and open spaces downstairs for people to hang out if they want. Breakfast each morning was a highlight, self serve for a few items and then choice of a couple of other things such as quiche / oatmeal and avocado toast. Garden was beautiful and has obviously had a lot of attention over the years. Swimming pool also very pretty and had sun loungers. Lovely place.

Yelp
To say this beautiful inn was underwhelming and a disappointment is an understatement. I tried to post my complete review here but there is a character limit and I have so much to say. Go to TripAdvisor to see my detailed review. Sort by negative reviews as they are spot on. Some of the positive reviews seem to paraphrase the business' website..hmm!

Yelp
I have stayed at the Inn four times over the years and have a fifth stay booked. The rooms are renovated yet they still have the charm you would expect at an Inn. Some rooms even have doors that lead outside to their garden. The staff are all very lovely and on standby for you. The atmosphere is welcoming yet you have your privacy as well. The breakfast is quite nice. I am vegan and they always have fresh berries, avocado toast and really good coffee. The toiletries in the rooms are also vegan, which is helpful. The only thing I would change would be that in the summer sometimes the rooms are available only for three night stays. I wish some rooms were always available for one night stays so I could always choose the Inn!

Yelp
Stanton House Inn, situated in Greenwich, Connecticut, is a little slice of heaven, at least for me, and hopefully, for you too. First and most importantly, it's only about an hour away from Manhattan, where I live, and easily accessible by public transportation. Second, although it is close in proximity to the city, is a whole different vibe from Manhattan, which I love. Greenwich has all of my favorite shops from which to shop and there are plenty of restaurants from which to dine, but is surrounded by tall trees, wide, open spaces, and smells so good, like nature should. Stanton House Inn is a ten to twenty minute walk from downtown Greenwich, which makes it perfect for exploring, at leisure, without a car. The inn itself is staffed with the nicest, most helpful and courteous staff members and they are available to (happily) assist you in person or via text message (so convenient!!). I stayed in both the patio level room closest to the outdoor pool, and because I loved my first two nights so much, stayed an additional night on the third floor in the, "room with a view". Both rooms were very clean and stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair caps, makeup remover wipes, lots of towels, teas, coffee, mugs, and a mini fridge. The grounds of the property is very well maintained. The grass is cut, the pools are clean (I witnessed myself the pool being cleaned in the early mornings) and there are bushes of colorful flowers to cheer you up. Also, a lot of baby bunnies and butterflies at any given moment are freely roaming to lift your spirits. The indoor common areas, though limited, are so relaxing. I loved listening to the record player in the living room and reading my novels the library. In the morning, breakfast includes fresh juices, hot coffee, *delicious* assorted pastries (I had cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, fruit muffins), soft bagels, different cream cheese spreads, a big fruit platter (strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, etc.) and of course, a daily menu from which to choose your breakfast. In addition to this lovely breakfast, the inn provides guests with free bottles of water, Pellegrino, and flavored sparkling waters, as well as an assortment of granola bars, chips, pop corn, chocolate bites, etc (aka snacks!!). Any hotel in Manhattan would charge a ridiculous fee for what Stanton House Inn offers as a complimentary to their guests. I found this act of generosity as one indication that the inn truly cares about their business and guests. The positive vibes and warmth I experienced during my stay at this inn means I'll never need to stay anywhere else when in Greenwich, Connecticut. In fact, it was so enjoyable that I am already anticipating/planning my next visit here! My stay has been such a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of my Manhattan apartment and job. To sum it all up: Stanton House Inn was a 10/10 stay and I can't wait to come back! Thank you, Stanton Inn for an AWESOME stay!!!

Yelp
This was really a nice place and staff was very friendly and very accommodating . I enjoyed the tour around the property but when told there was a tour I thought we were going around the inside of the house, the majority of it was outside, and I would have dressed appropriately had I known it was going to be more than an hour outside. It was very informative and enjoyable otherwise. We stayed in the Sackett suite and it was overall a nice experience, however the carpets needed shampooing and I kept smelling mold around the jacuzzi and sink. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very nice and we loved the coffee cake. I would def. come back and stay in another room. This was our first time in a bed and breakfast.

Yelp
The absolute worse customer service ever experienced. I have tried to resolve an issue w/the front desk and the reservation dept is prohibiting me from communicating w/the front desk. I have to assume it is the policy of the Inn itself that has put this system in place to avoid handling issues. The reservationist is imbecilic and rude. Stay on the street before staying here

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about my stay. I booked my stay less than 24 hours before coming to town & communication with the B&B was prompt, clear, & informative. The home is absolutely charming and comfortable, and in a great location, in a charming neighborhood. The grounds are whimsical with a meandering path and stone walls and hidden nooks. Ideal for a B&B. The bed & linens were clean and comfortable & the room a generous size. However, my bathtub had other people's hair left in it, and had old dust/grime built up around the outside. My carpet needed cleaning. While vacuumed, there were white scattered crusty droplets in front of the bed. Also in the dining room paint was peeling and hanging above a table. I kept wondering if it was going to flake off and land in food. For breakfast I ordered the parfait and it was beautiful sliced fruit & delicious plain yogurt, but no granola on it. I also requested the frittata and it was tomato & ricotta cheese, nice ingredients, but not a lot of flavor. Breakfast for me was very bland. The bagel & pastry station looked nice, but I didn't have any due to allergies. I liked how the cream cheese was presented in round balls. Very appealing. Also, I found myself wishing for juice. Nobody asked if I wanted juice with my breakfast so I didn't know to ask. Leaving the room after eating I noticed someone with a glass so I regretted not asking, but feel like it should have been offered. Overall, I may try a second stay. Perhaps my experience was an exception as others have rated it very high. I gave it 3/5. The location was 15-20 minutes away from the Westchester airport and very convenient for my needs.

Yelp
I hosted a small event with 9 people at the Stanton House Inn for Afternoon Tea today. It was absolutely fabulous! Anette was extremely responsive, professional, kind and accommodating throughout the entire planning process. Her menu options were great.... and she made several special items for my vegan friend. She was very attentive, personable and welcoming during the event. The Inn is gorgeous. It was such a comfortable and cozy place to be on a cold November day. It makes for a great option to celebrate with a few friends especially during COVID.. their private dining room makes it feel as though you are inviting your guests into your home... while minimizing your risk of bringing covid into your house. The china and tableware were unique and beautiful. But most importantly.... the food was AMAZING!!!! Everyone was raving about the homemade scones and sandwiches. And the desert was to die for. Highly recommend!!!!! Thank you sooooo much Anette!!! I will be back!

Yelp
Had an AMAZING stay here last week! I was in Greenwich for work, so was very unfamiliar with the area..but the staff gave me plenty of recommendations and made me feel right at home! Where to start with this place?! First of all, it has the cleanest, most beautiful pool I've ever seen or swam in. They really do maintain it to look exactly like it does in their pictures and the water temperature is on point. The house is laid out so that the rooms are not on top of each other...during my week long stay, there was not a single time that I heard another guest coming or going. The continental breakfast is exactly what you would expect from a nice B and B during the week- it's modest but with plenty of variety. Each morning, almost immediately upon entering the dining area I was warmly greeted by a staff member with a "good morning" and light conversation, followed by an offer of three different types of juice. They made sure the continental breakfast is stocked up so that nothing is running low, and were often checking on the guests to make sure no one was in need of anything. My room was tidied up by housekeeping every day as if it were my first morning there (despite being there for almost a week!) they were VERY generous with shampoo, conditioner, etc. and never forgot to replenish anything that I had run through. Despite the staff being incredibly attentive, I never felt like they were "too much". I absolutely still had space to work and come and go as I please, they really find the perfect balance here. I know this is an incredibly long review, and there is a chance that no one has read this far...but I still don't feel like I included everything! In short, Stanton Inn went above and beyond and it's the most attentive, cleanest, and loveliest Bed and Breakfast I've ever stayed in... if you are in Greenwich, please do yourself a favor and stay here!!

Yelp
This was my first stay and I loved it. The inn is very well appointed, my room was very up to date and comfortable with a beautiful bathroom. The grounds are very beautiful and it's clear they put a great deal of care and love into the entire inn. It is spotless! Breakfast was very good - yogurt, granola, cereal, several types of toasting bread, coffee cake, scones hard boiled eggs... Just lovely. The staff were very kind which I appreciate. Sadly my stay was 10 hours - basically a quick overnight on a work trip. I would have liked to have stayed longer!

Kirk H.

Yelp
The property itself is beautiful, the gardens are exquisite and the location is perfect, a short trip to town and restaurants. The breakfast was simple but sweet in the lovely dining room. Staff were friendly but not overly engaging and the house rules talk about what constitutes an after hours emergency seems a little on the condescending side. Apart from that we loved our stay.

Ce M.

Yelp
The Stanton House Inn was absolutely Lovely. The Pomeroy Suite was spacious, Spotlessly Clean and the high end bedding made my stay Very comfortable. The Innkeeper Colin is delightfully friendly! The Pool , the location just a block from town walking distance and the enchanting Gardens just made for the perfect Stay. Thank you and we will definitely always stay with you when in Greenwich,CT Carol McM

Yelp
Not worth the price at all. Nice house, but the rooms are basic as is the breakfast. Staff was also mediocre. When you have other great options in the area for the same or lesser price, you would be nuts to stay here.

Yelp
Relaxing weekend away from the city life. Great experience and wonderful staff. The breakfast was very nice that included continental breakfast with eggs and bacon or sausage. Stood in room 14 very clean room.

Mary w.

Yelp
It is definitely a charming place with lovely grounds. When I checked in by myself the staff did not take the time to show me how to control the temperature or lighting. When it came to checking out I feel like they couldn't get rid of me fast enough. They were stripping my bed before I left. I ended up waiting in the rain for my ride to the airport. They are not very hospitable and rather stuffy. I will not return.

Sam C.

Yelp
I can't recommend the Stanton House Inn highly enough. The room that I stayed in was large, comfortable, and perfectly clean, and the inn as a whole was beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and made my stay even more pleasant. Overall, the prices are actually quite reasonable for the level of quality that the Stanton House Inn offers.

Elliot L.

Yelp
Absolutely spectacular! Our family stayed for five nights visiting relatives in NYC and Greenwich. The Pearsons went out of their way to make our stay as homelike and comfortable as possible, including providing milk and cookies for our daughter every night, and letting us heat up our leftovers from a previous dinner in their kitchen. The room, bathroom, and common rooms are absolutely spotless, and the staff cleaned the rooms to immaculate perfection every day, which you would maybe expect in a full service hotel (and perhaps not even then) but not a B & B, so that was a nice and wholly unexpected benefit. It was very relaxing, in no small part because the common rooms were quiet after 10pm, and the bed was very, VERY, comfortable. More nice touches: the inn is walking distance from downtown Greenwich shops and the Metro-North station (they will call you a cab if you need it) , but just far enough off the main drag that we weren't overrun by traffic every day. The garden is glorious, complete with fresh vegetables, chicken coop (with fresh eggs for breakfast on the weekend), and beehives (honey bees, so non aggressive). The pool was crystal clear and cleaned every day, and warm enough to be comfortable without being a sauna. Breakfast was wonderful, and the innkeepers went so far as to get apple juice when we asked for it. The ownership of the inn were so gracious and friendly. They made numerous suggestions for things to do and places to go, and were especially informative about logistics. We cannot recommend this inn strongly enough; it is simply the nicest place we've ever stayed, and the next time we are in Greenwich we will absolutely stay here. You should too!!!!

Yelp
My bf took me here for a surprise 2 day trip and it was perfect. The room was adorable and had a fantastic fireplace. The owners were incredibly friendly and the house was totally charming. It was a basic continental breakfast, but with good-quality food. They also made hot eggs and bacon over the weekend. They offered fantastic suggestions for places to go and eat in the town. I really can't imagine a better stay or nicer surroundings from which to explore Greenwich.

J E.

Yelp
My new "home away from home." Stayed here for two nights and it was wonderful. I am extremely particular when it comes to where I eat and sleep and The Stanton House Inn was a real find. Lovely in every sense of the word. The house, rooms, atmosphere are absolutely charming. Extremely clean, warm and inviting. The owners are just as warm and friendly as the Inn. The continental breakfast couldn't offer more. Homemade cinammon rolls, croissants, bagels, pound cakes, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, cheeses and meats, fresh fruit cup, coffee, tea, juices. The dining room is inviting and again, warm and relaxing. There are NO negatives. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Owning a B&B for five years gives me a little heads up on what I was expecting. I was surprised though by their great breakfast offering as well as their check in services. Check in was like an expensive boutique hotel In NYC with the wonderful feel of being at a B&B. The rooms were clean and up to date, not really interesting as far as themes like most B&B's yet nice.

Yelp
What a great place to stay while in the Greenwich area! I was back for a reunion and remembered the Stanton House from decades ago. Imagine my surprise to find an incredibly well run, beautiful inn with excellent food and amenities. The room and bath were spotless and quite comfortable. The family who owns and manages the Inn were welcoming, attentive and made us feel like family. I would not hesitate to stay at this B&B again when I'm back in the area.

Orli V.

Yelp
Great accommodations. Very homey, very warm. The staff was incredibly friendly. Overall a really pleasant, relaxing experience. Highly recommend.

Archana G.

Yelp
There are some hotels and Inns that are not just places to stay but an experience of a lifetime. This gorgeous and historic inn is one of those destinations. The friendly staff and courteous service and well appointed rooms take you back to a bygone era of elegance and charm. If you are lucky you will run into Mrs Pearson- part of the family that owns this place. Don't miss it.

Kimberly G.

Yelp
The female innkeeper was so incredibly rude, condescending and judgemental toward me because I spilled a glass of red wine in the room. While I take, and took, full responsibility, told them what happened and repeatedly apologized, fully ready to pay for damages, I was told ,"Our other guests treat this place with respect." "There is no way that was only one glass of red wine." And was forced to pay $500 in damages without an itemized receipt, simply a paper that says "red wine clean up fee." I wasn't partying, I was there alone, for a break from the city, watching TV. I happened to have an accident and spill a glass of wine, which again, I was fully sorry and ready to deal with the consequences. Never is it ok to treat and speak to someone the way this woman spoke to me, especially as a business owner. I was repeatedly told that never had they encountered such an issue. Well, apparently I was the only non perfect human to enter their inn. Excuse me.
