Kyoto, Beyond the Temples and Shrines

"My favorite store not only in Japan but likely the world. Pick up some antique patchwork textiles found by Kana Shimizu, the owner, or a handmade soy watercolor candle."

An exceptional lunch experience. The food is simple and yet delicious. Nothing is overdone or unintentional. The service is kind, informative, and unpretentious. Well worth the trip we made from south Kyoto to north Kyoto. I will always remember Stardust.

We went for lunch. When we booked the day before, we were warned that we may be asked to vacate our table if it got busy. This was surprising. The food (there's only one option) - soup, bread, and a small serve of roast vegetables and pickles, was tasty but meagre. We drank sake, but even so, the cost was eye-watering - more than ¥ 5000 for two. I found the interiors dark and cold, with the distressed aesthetic rather overdone. The service was attentive if somewhat slow. We were there for 20 minutes before receiving our meals, despite an empty restaurant. It's not in a central location, and vegetarian restaurants and vegetarian options are becoming more common in Kyoto. I was really looking forward to this experience after reading the reviews. My conclusion now is - don't bother.

I had the single meal option (soup, roasted veggies, and homemade bread), and it was delicious. They also had a very extensive list of tea options with so many unique blends - I ended up choosing a chai adjacent blend that was very light, but aromatic. Overall the food, drinks, cafe atmosphere and service were 10/10. I plan to go back again soon.

A most serene place in a quiet area of northern Kyoto. Enjoyed ice tea and raw cake on a hot summer morning with Jonsí and Alex Somers music playing on nice speakers in a quiet, well decorated townhouse setting. Beautiful things, special place

Went into Stardust after seeing good reviews on google maps. Whilst the ambiance was very nice, it was clearly aimed at rich tourists. I opted for a close to 10 AUD fruit tart and my partner ordered a herbal tea and a vegan cheesecake (both also close to 10 AUD) . Prior to receiving the food, we were asked to purchase an additional tea as per store policy. I opted not to but felt that this insistence, given the hefty price, somewhat soured the experience. The staff were very polite and the food items were tasty, though the cheesecake was very small.

Amazing vegan/vegetarian place. To eat some sweets, to have some delicious tea from their selection, and they even serve lunch. They sell objects as well so you can have a look around and even take something with you. The ambiance is super relaxed and the place with store adjunct well designed, everything beautiful and timeless.

This might have been my favorite stop in Kyoto. It is one of the loveliest cafes I’ve ever been to - curated so simply & perfectly. The kombucha and tea selection was incredible! Out of the way of many of the tourist sites, but a wonderful detour.

Stardust has a magical atmosphere! And everything I've tasted there has been unbelievably delicious! If I have an important meeting coming up, the first thing I think of is Stardust. Thank you so much for this place!
