Where to Stay Near Big Bend, West Texas's Stunning National Park | Condé Nast Traveler

"As the name might suggest, Starstruck Glamping was constructed to highlight the wonders of West Texas after sundown. As such, guests here will be treated to phenomenal sunset views from their fully equipped outdoor kitchens, and each geodesic dome comes with a telescope to help them witness some of the darkest night skies in the world. The interiors of Starstruck’s tents are pretty posh, too, adorned with heavenly queen beds, spa-inspired en suite bathrooms, geometric rugs, and split heating/cooling units." - Emily Pennington

Sleep Tourism Is Trending in 2023, With A.I.-Equipped Hotel Beds and Glamping Under Dark Skies

"In the wilds of Southwest Texas, Big Bend National Park lies below one of the world's darkest stretches of sky. Having the least light pollution of the lower 48 states' national parks, showers of dazzling meteors, wispy edges of the Milky Way, and crisp constellations show themselves to a sparse population of stargazers in the Chihuahuan Desert. Then, after the night show, dreamers get to rest their heads in a place with pristine sleeping conditions."

Google
Absolutely GORGEOUS place to stay for visiting Big Bend National Park! There are four domes that are decently spread out from each other (and a larger “casa” somewhere nearby), and I feel like we were very lucky to stay in the Milky Way dome which was the farthest one out so when we sat outside we had an unobstructed view of the gorgeous desert and the mountains in the distance. We were there over New Year’s so the weather was amazing and we appreciated getting to soak in the warmth of the firepit as the temperatures dropped at night. There is also a wonderful grill and an outdoor sink that we used to make breakfast every morning and dinner a couple of nights. The water is not drinkable so you MUST bring water (we filled up two 5 gallon carboys from home), but the water works fine to rinse dishes or wash your hands. Another warning, to get to the dome, you will have to drive about 2 miles on an unpaved, dirt road, but it’s relatively smooth and you don’t need a 4 wheel drive vehicle for it (we managed it in a rented mini-van, which we definitely didn’t plan on having to do but it worked). The inside of the dome is very cool. We had two adults and one teenager in the dome and it was an awesome glamping experience! The views out of the dome during daylight are gorgeous, and at night if you turn off all the lights you get some very cool views at night too. However, we did really appreciate the full curtain to cover the windows when we left for the day and when it was time to go to sleep. Definitely recommend keeping the curtains closed when you leave because the windows create a greenhouse effect and it will be HOT inside even if it’s not that warm outside. They do have an air conditioner/ heater inside, but you can’t leave that running when you’re gone or you risk running the solar power down. Since it’s a smaller space it did cool down quickly when we got back to the dome in the afternoons / evenings. The beds were comfy, there were plenty of plugs to charge things, and they had a surprisingly nice kitchen setup. A decent sized mini-fridge with a tiny freezer that let us re-freeze our ice packs for our cooler, a keurig, a microwave, and a lot of utensils and plates, plastic glasses and plastic wine glasses. There are also grill tools under the sink outside! There is a bathroom with a door, a little sink, and a standing shower. The only issue with the shower is A) it’s not frosted glass, it’s clear, which is awkward for a situation where people don’t want to see each other naked, and B) the water is brought in so you really need to take VERY short showers. We didn’t wash our hair while we were there and just rinsed off quickly if we needed to so we could help protect the water in the area and limit the issue where no one could use the back-half of the dome because of the nakedness lol. The desert outside is also FULL of cool rocks and fossils if you want to go hunting for them! We found a few fossilized dinosaur eggs, fossilized river bed, and some very cool rocks that made my daughter so excited! To summarize, this is an absolutely beautiful place to stay, it’s only about an hour to get into Big Bend National Park, and is way more luxurious and comfortable than regular camping. A perfect glamping experience with stellar views that I will recommend to everyone! PS - Don’t forget to check out nearby Terlingua for delicious BBQ at DB’s Rustic Iron, and the history of this cool ghost town!

Beautiful and surprisingly spacious accommodations in a beautiful setting. Really loved the amenities and was incredibly cozy. Fire pit was amazing and was a nice backdrop to stargazing. Only thing was that it took us a bit to locate the dome on our first night there, but everything else was amazing.

The dome was great. There is about 4 miles of an easy off-road drive to get to the domes. That is nice because one of our goals was to be in a dark remote location. The beds are comfortable. The AC/ heater worked well. I used the fire pit in the morning and evenings. East to start. It is about 30 minutes to the park entrance (about 60 minutes to the main visitor station.) My parents have some mobility issues, and the shower is easy to get in and out and large. We would go again.

Thank you for hosting for the last three days. We had a great stay at StarStruck Glamping a close proximity to Big Bend National Park. It has a spacious home with three bedrooms and plenty of outdoor space. Very clean and fully equipped for family gathering. Comes with BBQ and small swimming pool.

We got to our dome late, 9:30, so we went straight in and opened the curtains (which are wonderfully black out when closed) back to reveal the night sky. The beds were super comfortable and the shower great. Upon waking in the morning we were amazed at the beautiful view and outside set up. We relaxed as the sun rose and then used the outdoor kitchen (all supplies were there) to cook breakfast. We had the best time, only downside was we didn’t stay longer. We can’t wait to go back and e joy this property again! Oh also, the customer service is fantastic! We forgot something and they contacted us and shipped it to our home in Austin. :)

We stayed at Starstruck mid-October and absolutely loved it!!! In our area, there were 4 domes moderately spaced so you didn’t feel too near to your neighbors. Make sure you have at least a small SUV and drive since the roads are very, very rocky. I stayed outside from 7p-10p and set alarms to get up at midnight, 3a and 7a (since sunrise wasn’t til 8a). It was amazing to see the Milky Way spread across the sky like a cosmic rainbow and to notice how the earth rotated when seeing the stars in different positions. If you want something off a main road, but with an isolated feel, this is the place to stay. Don’t even think about stargazing out the window. Grab a blanket, a cup of tea and head outside. Priceless.

Google
This place was amazing! The dome was super comfortable and had everything we needed, but the real star (literally) was the night sky. I’ve never seen so many stars in my life — the Milky Way was crystal clear and we even caught a few shooting stars. The u it was very clean, luxurious and smelled amazing when we first walked in. It was peaceful, relaxing, and way more memorable than any regular hotel stay. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
This place is absolutely amazing!!! October is a perfect month to visit! If you want peace and quiet this is where you want to go. Views are breathtaking and the dome is beautiful inside and out! Comfy beds and they supply everything you need. Stars were amazing to see! I would definitely visit again! Only thing I would complain about was the road getting there. Very very bumpy. Even in our suv it was rough. But well worth it!

Yelp
Waited and watched this place for 2 years on IG and we finally got to experience SSG domes! I cannot believe this is basically in our backyard here in Texas! The 360° views, the stunning landscape, the stillness, the stars!! The entire set up out here just blew us away and beat our expectations! Camping (Glamping) in the desert on the backside of the Maverick Mountains was Just spectacular! The domes had everything you could want and then some in terms of camping but without suffering. Lol! There are 4 domes so you have "neighbors", but they are 200+ feet away. You hear nothing but an occasional yipping grip of coyotes, the crickets, the beautiful sunrises with just the birds as the sun comes up over the horizon. Beds and pillows were amazing so comfortable we slept like babies. They offer a cute little kitchenette off to the side with Keurig, microwave and those cute vintage freezer/fridges on Instagram. Boho Arizona chic decor, the shower is beautiful done with a full bathroom set up. A cute modular clothes rack for luggage and clothes. A telescope for watching the Milky Way (which you don't even need because you can see it all with the naked eye. We saw shooting stars all night long. If you like falling asleep under a blanket of stars on a double chaise bed by the fire and not a care in the world this is your kinda place! This is a Protected Dark Sky area where there is literally zero light pollution...but you're only 26 minutes to nearest town. Alpine just up the road and Terlingua down south 25 mins near the Big Bend National Park! Cannot wait to come back!!!

Yelp
WE stayed here for 2 nights and lets just say that we didn't want to leave! What an experience and absolutely different from what our family have done in past vacations. The owners are incredible kind, responsive and want to make sure you have everything you need. This was truly a memorable place and will never forget the stars at night......it was like glitter thrown into the night sky....it was beyond spectacular! The beds are comfortable, the bathroom and shower were great and the place was very clean. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to "think outside the box" while staying near Big Bend but not into "camping". They truly do Glamping in style! Thank you so much for creating a space that anyone can enjoy that is unique and fun:)
