State Department Store

This is probably the most renown shopping place of UB, but if you’re looking for shopping and souvenirs, this is highly recommended. The entity of shops with fake brands in the city is quite high, so visiting this place can guarantee a better buy. Very nice the souvenir floor on the 5th. Prices are still cheap. There’s a nice walk and open air market right in front of the entrance, with books, souvenirs and many kinds of articles.

This department store is the most popular among local people and tourists. There are many cashmere shops and souvenir but it’s quite pricey. On the first floor and basement are supermarket where you can buy cheap vodka and foods.

Pretty mall! Nice staff! There’s jewelry right after entering the store. When you walk past the jewelries, you have the supermarket at the first floor, where they have lockers to store your personal items if needed. And then, i thought they dont have coffee and tea, but then you need to go one floor down for these. 😅 And they charge you extra for plastic if you dont have a bag for your groceries. I forgot how much but i think it’s a 1000 tugrik? Pls correct me though if im wrong. Also, you can’t buy sim cards anymore here. I tried to buy Mobicom sim card and the staff said that they already moved out and directed me to Tedy’s instead. It’s on the same street. I paid 20k Tugrik for a tourist sim card valid for 1month, which includes calls and texts and 20GB of data. You can also buy souvenirs at the top floor but i find it pricey.

Must visit location to get souvenirs from Mongolia. Or even to get your clothing for your OOTD during the trip there! They have lot of clothing varieties, magnets, arts and crafts

This store is a mixed bag. Some stores have very attentive sales people, others are left there for the customer to fend for themselves. The ones that had good service were Columbia, Levi's, and Gurvan Sor. The ones where I could find nobody to help me were North Face and Timberland. The individual stores do not have cashiers. You have to go to the middle, pay there and go back to pick up your merch. Overall, a nice mall. Has absolutely everything!

One of the best places for shopping in Ulaanbaatar. Outside of the building there are also Uzbek cuisine.

Don’t let the outside of the store deceive you. It’s a lot nicer than you think with an array of goods that are sold here. The quality of goods are decent and nice especially if you are seeking women’s clothing. If you are seeking cashmere clothing or looking for an extra luggage for your souvenirs, the is the place. There are a decent selection. Don’t forget the VAT free tax if you spend a certain dollar amount. My friend found an extra luggage for her treasures. Checkout the big array of fresh flowers sold on the main floor. Some of the staff speak limited English. They’ve decorated it nicely. Just in time for the holidays.

The state department store is an absolute must for anyone visiting Ulaanbaatar. They have groceries, clothes, decor, souvenirs, restaurants, coffee shops, and just about anything else you might want. Really great location!
