Great atmosphere, very nice outdoor area that's dog friendly. Carribean ceviche and the lettuce wraps were great. Hibiscus mule & PBJ sour were also great. I forgot the name of our waiter, I believe it was Meadow B, blonde girl. She was very welcoming and very attentive.

Very nice environment, well decorated. If it was slightly warmer out, I would've enjoyed sitting out by the fire. This place is a little more pricey than I would normally visit, but our waitress was super nice and helpful on recommendations. Appetizer: Potato chip nachos - Very good when hot. You really needed to eat them quickly. They got soggy and less appealing when cooled. My entree: Trout Meuniere - Excellent. Full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I would recommend for sure. Sister's entree: Skirt Steak Chimi - Also very good, but we both agree the trout was better. The steak was also cooked to the specifications she asked for. Desert- Donuts - Melt in your mouth delicious. I tried a couple of their frescas, but really didn't like them. I probably would not visit here again due to the cost, but it was a nice experience to visit with my sister, visiting from Paris, France.

My fiancée took a chance on this spot for my birthday because we’ve never been here before. All I can say is we were overly satisfied. I can not complain, AT ALL! We also got a free desert (they do this special for birthdays). This is such an amazing spot. The food was made fresh to order. The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. The waiters/staff were perfect. Everything was perfect. We had an amazing server. Sadly I can’t remember his name but he made sure we were straight. Thank y’all! We will most definitely be back!

Super cool experience in such a unique place with both indoor and outdoor seating. There were plenty of space teachers going so none of us were chilly in mid December. We were a party of nine and I think one of the girls made reservations. If you are a big party, call ahead to make sure they can make space for you. Otherwise there's plenty of smaller tables, outdoor seating, picnic tables, and even bar seating. We had a great time celebrating with drinks and appetizers, plus everybody ordered a main. Definitely try the bologna sandwich or the bison burger. Confusion fries are a delicious blend of square cut home fry potato and square cut sweet potato grilled with onions and peppers so it made for a delicious sweet and savory side. Portion sizes were great and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Wow. I was pleasantly surprised! We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed! I expected long wait times and perhaps even my order being messed up. However, everything was great. My food can quickly, the order was exact, and it was delicious. We ordered the Mexican Ceviche, Fried Bologna Sandwich, and the Ribeye Benedict. They were all really good. We also had the Strawberry Basil Aguas Frescas. We enjoyed each item and hope to go back one day.

Friendly service. We had their ceviche sampler - delicious! We enjoyed a pisco sour - tasted exactly like we had in Peru - delicious. I had their baked sweet potato with chicken - good but HUGE! My husband had their grilled bologna sandwich and said it was delicious.

The ceviche was great! We liked the outdoor seating although it was blistering hot that day. The chimmichuri steak was excellent. Service though was a different story. We waited much longer than what they told us initially which is difficult with hungry kids. When we finally got seated it took a while to be serviced. We ordered drinks twice and they were out of ingredients to fulfill the order. We may have just caught them at a weird time, but that should not matter if you run a restaurant. Probably won't go back anytime soon but like I mentioned, the food was great!

This place serves some of the best grilled dishes! Every single item we tried was full of flavor. Even the mac and cheese we ordered for our kid was yum - not greasy. We loved the lamb kebabs and chicken plancha - well-seasoned, and grilled just right. Our server recommended cheesecake for dessert, and it was phenomenal. The restaurant offers plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors.

Such a great spot. Large outdoor space great for groups /families with kids etc. Service was attentive and the food was really good. Chefs are trained in Peru to make their ceviches --one of the best I've ever had. Bison burger was cooked perfectly and the bun they chose was a perfect compliment without too much "bread". They have kid food options and fun mixed drinks and agua Fresca choices alike. Will def be back.

Very Dives like Restaurant with hobo like decor.Service is very friendly and informative about the menu. Monkey Bread very fresh and cheesy. Maybe too cheesy and a bit salty The Trout was disappointing The Chicken chimichuri Salad was good but The chimichuri was the star. State of Confusion is quickly becoming my go-to Saturday hangout! We lucked out with seats at the outdoor bar, and as always, the bartenders were super friendly and on point. We kicked things off with the bison sliders--so good! That peppercorn mayo really made the whole bite come together. My husband went with the Skirt Steak Chimi and I got the Chicken Chimi Salad. Since we're both obsessed with chimichurri, these dishes were a total win. His was hearty and packed with flavor, and mine was fresh, filling, and delicious. Next on my list? Brunch! I keep hearing amazing things about it, and if it's anything like dinner, I know I won't be disappointed.

Had lunch here back to back days. First lunch was a bison burger with fries - very good, but burger was not medium as ordered, but rather medium-well (unfortunately, this negates the " perfect burger" props I gave in my first review). Fries were good, service was excellent and it's a nice chill atmosphere. Second day I had the Shrimp Poboy, which was very good but one of the sloppiest sandwiches I've ever eaten due to their splitting the role all the way through (shrimp will not stay on the bun this way). Side of red beans and rice was decent. Had a new server today and she did an excellent job.

Good, but not great. The crispy pan seared chicken had good flavor, but it could have been more crispy. And the fries had potential but were a bit on the soggy side. I think the dish sat out for a few minutes too long. The egg rolls and nacho appetizers shared with the rest of the party were good. The chicha morada with one free refill was actually my favorite part of the meal. True to the name State of Confusion, between the entirety of our party, at least two desired menu items had run out, and some orders were missed. I would return again, because I think the food has good potential, especially if they had the items that had run out.

Located in what looks like an old auto mechanic's garage in a funky area just east of the historic southside of downtown Chattanooga, this is a good spot for brunch, especially on a sunny and warm day. The outside seating at least doubles the space. The place was packed for Saturday brunch, but because of the size, the wait was not long. As the name conveys, the menu is a real mashup of Peruvian, American South and even New Orleans cuisine. There are choices that are healthy & some more comfort food, so if you are with a group, there ought to be something for everybody. They have a large selection of Peruvian ceviches, so we had to order the Ceviche Tower. The tower was made of sweet potatoes, stuffed with mahi and shrimp and surrounded by a tasty sauce with corn & various other things thrown in for good measure. The sweet potato tower provided a nice contrast to the softer items and the sauce. Sort of weird, but definitely a fun and tasty item to order. We also had the wood fired veggies and grains with poached eggs. This place has a wood fired oven and it's put to great use on the veggies. They were outstanding in both their flavor and the way they were cooked, with just the right amount of crunchiness remaining. The confusion potatoes provided a good base to mix them with, the poached eggs provided some runny yolk to mix in and the quinoa topped things off. Definitely a good choice. When you order any brunch entree, you can help yourself to what they call their brunch bar. It had tomatoes & onions (just okay), potato salad (good), some other veggie salad with radishes & cucumbers (weird, but good) and oddly also several cookies and brownies (I guess to start and finish off your meal). Service was good even though they were really busy. Overall, a good, solid brunch experience. One extra note: they offer free parking in their own lot just a couple doors down the street from the restaurant.

Uber here from the airport right when they opened on a weekday. My last SOC meal was delivered to my hotel and I enjoyed it enough that I wanted to check out the restaurant. The menu is very diverse with something for anyone's taste. I ordered the potato nachos as an appetizer but Ultimately ended up being my meal. Obviously intended for sharing and I housed them by myself! They had outdoor seating with heaters or inside seating. It was a Tuesday early afternoon so the crowd was limited. From the look on my Uber drivers face when I told him where I was headed, I'm guessing they make their money on weekend and evenings. Great place and definitely a good section of Chattanooga with MSM across the street to check out whether local or visiting.

The food was great! We had a party of 10. Julius was our waiter. He was great! He got all of our orders right. He checked in on us to see if we needed anything. He came around numerous times during our meal to collect up plates and glasses that were not being used. He is a very gracious person and our party appreciated all of his hard work.

From the moment we arrived it was a mess! We arrived at the restaurant at 5:15 for our 5:30 dinner reservations for two and were seated around 6:15. When we were greeted, we were told "great you are next in line." Yet, we had four groups come in after us and two who were previously waiting of which all were seated before us. We asked the hostess and she said "sorry we had some problems we had to deal with discrimination and a family with children needing attention." Ok.... Great that's not my problem, concern nor should I know about it. At roughly 7:00 we we served our meal, which was wrong. I explained to our server I did not want the mixed vegetables because I am allergic to bell peppers. Then the chef came out and asked about my allergy to bell peppers. At first I thought it was very thoughtful, however, the kitchen served me a plate loaded with bells. Of course they took it back and we waited another 8 minutes for it to be served again. This time they did not bring back a medium rare steak, it was Dead! So well done it was as tough to chew as Jerky! Yet oddly enough, the plate was saturated in oil making the steak wet and the fries soggy. Aside from all the shortcomings our server, Kailyn was very on top of things. Covering many tables and a crazy Saturday night crowd, she did it with a smile and was very polite. I'd say this was a pretty bad experience all around as I could go on with the details about how many ways of bad it was. We are going to give this another chance at another time and see the difference.

Great lunch at this great spot in Westside! We went on a Saturday and were able to be seated right away. Our waitress was very nice and took time to explain the menu to us. I ordered the ceviche sampler and it was one of the best meals I've eaten in a LONG TIME!!!! The closest thing I can compare it to would be C.V.CHE105 in Miami. The avocado and mahi was my favorite. That green juice was so good. I could've drank it straight from the plate.

My sister and I came here as a recommendation from a friend. We got seated right away even though the place looked like it was filling up fast. Our wonderful waitress, Lisa Marie, immediately informed us of their complimentary brunch buffet served on Sunday only. She was so sweet and kind from beginning to end. In terms of food, we shared the Peruvian ceviche and roasted vegetables with grain bowl. Having had ceviche a fair amount, this is not bad but also not very authentic. The sweet potato was still raw and the dish could have used a lot more like. We did like the grain bowl with the variety of veggies and the two eggs! Overall, it was a pleasant Sunday brunch on a beautiful day. It's very family friendly and cozy. Would love to come again and see our friend Lisa Marie!

Drinks were not strong at all. I ordered a double and couldn't taste any alcohol. The menu was very fun and creative. The lettuce apps were a good appetizer and enough to feed many.

State of confusion was one of several places we considered while strolling down Main St. Our golf trio settled in at the bar after putting our name in for a table to settle the score and the round loser to buy a few rounds. There we met both bartenders who were excellent, friendly and efficient. Trent was fun and really helped give our group the opportunity to enjoy this great outdoor space. We got food recommendations, top offs and even solicited dating advice for our only single friend. They have about 8 TVs around so you could settle in to watch on gameday. That's about where it started to go downhill. Our server who will remain nameless to give him a chance to improve asked if we were ready to order. We had to ask his name as he didn't even really seem interested to introduce himself just enter the order and let us tip him. Which was fine, so we ordered a few appetizers and then he pushed for the entree orders as well. Despite the fact that we wanted to enjoy a most delightful spring evening and it was not near closing time at 8:30. After ordering I specifically asked if since he had gotten the orders if he would enter the apps and allow us to enjoy the appetizer course and most likely 1-2 more rounds amongst friends who don't get the chance to hang that often. Instead our server said "the kitchen is slow so you'll have nothing to worry about. Well, much to his surprise, not only did our apps and entrees show up at the same time but we weren't even asked about another round of beverages. Mind you we didn't even get asked about another round at any point of being seated. So that was money missed and overall guest check tip $ amount missed as well. The food was pretty good, we had the egg rolls, gator bites, fried baloney sandwich, pan seared chicken and skirt steak chimichurri. We thought the alligator bites and steak chimi were great options. Our server refused to pre-bus any plates even as we had stacked app plates on top of entree plates which did lose him brownie points. Overall the venue was outstanding and we agreed that if we had stayed at the bar the experience would've been completely different for the better. So there is my advice, go have an app sit at the bar and take your chances there. I hope they can help the serving staff understand that if you space out the app course and entree course, they can improve check averages and also allow the guests to enjoy the experience more. Chimichurri for president! The food was so good, best we had in Chattanooga. We ordered chimichurri steak and steak kebabs and split them. So delicious. Ordered the savory monkey bread for an app. Hot and fresh out of the oven. Service was prompt and friendly. Drink specials during happy hour. Walk through the side entrance and find the host in the back. Plenty of parking around the area. Indoor and outdoor seating.

I dropped in here for a dinner with friends. The menu has a pretty good variety, so there is a little bit of something for everyone. Nothing stood out as the best meal of my life, but also that isn't really the vibe of the restaurant. It is more of a casual restaurant/bar type of place. The drinks we had were also decent enough. Overall, it was a cute place and had pretty good food. Just expect your typical bar food and you will be pleased with it.

We ordered the little red corvette, chips and queso, and the dessert nachos. The chips and salsa and queso were absolutely delicious, the dessert nachos were not worth the calories, and although the drink was good.... whew, that liquor was cheap!! We were both sick within a couple of hours. Nope, not my cup of tea!

Stopped here for lunch. I got the fried tacos. They're technically an appetizer, but make for a big, filling meal. The one knock here was the slow service. But the manager and waitress both apologized, and they offered us a discount without our asking. Much appreciated gesture, and earns them a star back (from three up to four).

This trendy restaurant downtown was a different breakfast experience for us. Saturday morning imagine brunch. We did not order but drinks appeared to be flying and several options for mimosas. They looked wonderful. We arrived a few minutes after they opened and were immediately greeted and seated. This place filled up quickly. The menu is a little creole? however they put their own flair. There was a little buffet bar with treats and salad included with you entree. Our server Kayla was awesome, explaining menu, patience with questions, bringing dinner menu for us to look and most importantly even though the restaurant filled up quickly and was quite busy she was quite attentive. We enjoyed the experience. The food we ordered was good, just not really our thing. I suggest you look at menu before visiting.

We are a regular at State of confusion but this time was great. Skylar was our server and she was amazing. She had a great personality and amazing customer service. The food was great again this trip but it's the service that made this trip worth the drive.

Overall the place is a decent spot if all other restaurants for brunch are busy. The mimosas are decent, I could pass next time on them. The confusion salad is a must. Every part of the dish is worth while to eat, solid choice. The fried chicken was enjoyable with its crunchy texture and savory taste. The biggest downside of my experience was finding an egg shell in my eggs. It's very easy to double check eggs when cracking to make sure no shells make it through the window to serve. Overall ambiance of the place is average in my opinion. The outside is nice, there's a small waterfall display along the outskirts, and on a good day it's nice to sit out there.

Was close by our hotel so we stopped by for dinner on a Sunday evening, was able to make a quick reservation but wasn't needed, probably half full. They had a nice outdoor area but we chose to sit inside. Service was good, had a cocktail and my husband a glass of wine that came out quick. I got the Plancha chicken with yellow rice and chips. The chicken had good flavor but it was chewier/fattier than I was expecting for chicken breast, didn't eat much of it. The rice was good and had a nice kick to it, chips were decent. My husband got the Mexican ceviche and really enjoyed it so that plus the service brought it back up to a 4.

I stopped by State of Confusion to meet up with some friends while on a road trip. They have a free parking lot within a 2 minute walk of the establishment. The outdoor patio is such a vibe, and they have giant games you can play while you wait for your food, or just to hang out! Our waitress was really sweet, and took care of everything we asked for. As far as the order, we ordered the Ranch Water, Cherry Limeade Aqua Fresca (OMG SO GOOD!!), a glass of wine, someone had beer.. but the food?? We all rated the food at least 8 or 9/10: the tacos, gator po'boy and fries, Confusion salad, and chicken egg rolls. The only complaint was that the tacos could be a touch saucier as they were on the drier side. As dry as they were, they were still flavorful! The egg rolls had a great crunch and flavor, and paired so well with the sweet chili sauce it comes with! The po'boy and fries were seasoned well, and the friend that got the salad said it doesn't ever miss. The house dressing is her favorite, and was vibrant and satisfying. Next time I come to Chatt I'll absolutely be coming back to try something else!!

We came here on a busy Saturday afternoon and waited about an hour to be seated We got a side of guacamole, which was pretty small for the price. Salad was really good and my friend enjoyed her chicken sandwich. If you come on a nice day be prepa to wait to be seated outside

Always a fun experience eating here. Great atmosphere and food. I've never had a bad dish here. We had the crab balls as an appetizer. Skirt steak chimi , and jambalaya then beignets for dessert.

We had a wonderful time with Allie, our server. She is such a sweetheart! She was friendly, informative re: food options, funny and cute, and we had an enjoyable time with Allie as our server. Thank you. P.S. The chefs cook very tasty meals!!!

Beer was good, food was pretty bland all around the menu. I thought there was a hint of Peruvian, but never found Peru ! And their special sauce is nothing other than sour cream and mayo.... Pretty disappointing!

Found this place to meet my daughter for brunch. Food is really good. And I would say that if you'd like a bloody Mary, they do a great job.

The vibe here is very cute. There are indoor and outdoor seats with tons of games. The menu has some great options for brunch and dinner. The service with fantastic - very helpful answering questions and checking in. I will be back soon.

A busy, lowkey cocktail bar/restaurant with a Southern twang, we stopped into this spot for a nightcap after a night out. I enjoyed one of their tasty aguas frescas with tequila in their covered igloos. A fun way to end the night in Chattanooga.

Back to back amazing service from our two separate visits. First Courvoisier then the emperor, Julius! He set the tone right off the bat with his cool and casual attitude. We were going to order some of the same dishes we got last time but Julius encouraged us to try some new dishes and we were instantly sold on them! The Mexican ceviche was packed with flavor and my brother got to try alligator for the first time which led to him ordering the alligator po boy. I grabbed the chimi steak which was phenomenal. The others at my table grabbed the red fish and trout. The venue is dimly lit and sets a relaxing atmosphere. We cannot wait to come again next time we're in town!

Cool place to dine in during the summer months especially if sitting out on a patio. Food was nothing special, pretty average. Service was fine. Our waitress was very nice and brought our dog a bowl of water. Overall it was fine.

One of the most fun patios we've been to on the south side of Chattanooga. Service by Kelsey was 5 stars! Mexican ceviche.. some of the freshest and well spiced we've had! Sorry forgot a pic! Such an amazing surprise experience stumbling upon this place during our cross country roadtrip. Huge patio/garden accomodating those with pups,blitz service (Samantha was our server and a true gem!) and phenomenally good food! No dedicated parking lot,but street parking is close and relatively easy to park on a weekday. We had Monkey bread as an appetizer-the fluffiness and the cheesiness,yumm...straight outta oven (not your store-bought pastry),11/10! As entrees,my hubby ordered potato nachos (full on cast iron plate!) and I had Peruvian ceviche with a strawberry-basil agua fresca on the side. My heart was singing,so good was everything we tasted! Loved the garden and the overall vibes too. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

We had a reservation. After being seated we Waited 40min, and received absolutely no service. While we were very hungry, we did not feel like it was going to get any better, so we left hungry. Last time one of our chicken dishes was undercooked and so I left hungry then, too. Too bad, we liked this place.

Hannah did an amazing job she was a great server, her energy was everything and she made our dining experience very pleasant. She had great suggestions and she made me a custom drink and was very willing to edit things for me.

Second visit to this restaurant and it did not disappoint! Shared app, delicious shared entree and just went for it with two desserts. Cat was a great server, very knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking with her! Great outdoor space and dog friendly!

I live out in Soddy now which is about 30-45 mins I've been here 3 times and 3 times with a smile. I typically get the jambalaya which is good, but my only complaint would be if they could give you a bigger shrimp. I'd even pay extra for it. Other than that, it's pretty good.

We've always enjoyed ourselves here, whether eating a full meal or something lite. At our age, we also enjoy the eclectic atmosphere and crowd.

I will still recommend this place to try, even though it's a hit or miss. The ambiance is one of the best in Chattanooga, be careful with the food. I've had either heartburn with every meal or even food-poisoning once with the taco appetizer (even though this was one of my favorites to order here). I'd avoid anything fried, I'm not sure how often they change the fryer oil here (I can tell it's typical vegetable oil they fry in, I so wish more people would use tallow and butter as it's not only more healthy it's gentler on your stomach!). A safe bet is always their ceviche, it's not a whole lot of food, but it's clean-eating and no heartburn lol. I've also had the service be hit or miss. Would rate this place four stars, but the last time I ate here I got food poisoning so I'm docking one.

Upbeat atmosphere, lots of room between seating areas, with my favorite being the multicolored umbrella tables on the spacious patio. We have always been seated upon arriving; however, we do present at times less busy, in between lunch/dinner. Great menu selection, variety of delish cocktails, and my favorite? Mexican ceviche! The house salad is a MUST btw. Their own fantastic seasoning can be purchased - $10/bottle. Whenever we are near Chattanooga, we make a beeline straight to State of Confusion!!

Brunch is a no go for me. My husband liked his steak and fries, but the breakfast burrito is mediocre and the deviled eggs were awful. The place is really cool looking and heard that the savory monkey bread is good, but they don't serve us at brunch. The service was good. I would go back if there weren't so many other places to try. First impressions make a difference.

You want food and fun, this is the place! Great indoor and outdoor spaces, food is just delicious and the staff is on top of it no matter how busy they are. Great fun spot.

We went for brunch and loved the great food and service. Lionel, our server, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the Mexican ceviche as an appetizer. It was fresh and had great flavor. The muffuletta and fried bologna sandwiches were equally amazing. Definitely a must stop while in Chattanooga. We can't wait to go back.

Breakfast bar was a cool idea but nothing stood out, still appreciate the options of pastries while I wait for food. I ordered the fried chicken funnel cake and my partner ordered chicken fried chicken & egg and subbed potatoes for grits. They brought out his entree with potatoes but they brought out side of grits for him which he liked how cheesy they were. And it was a welcome unexpected surprise to try the potatoes. Too soft and lukewarm at best but I personally like the idea of mixing sweet and yellow potatoes. Overall everything was good. Funnel cake was fluffy and held up well. Also tried $3 cranberry, pineapple and OJ mimosas. All good. Maggie was nice. There was a bit of confusion with our drink orders each time but worked out and Also like how much outside seating there is. Glad we chose here during our vacation!

By the time my husband and I left Tail of the Dragon to drive back home, it was already dinner time and we were very hungry. We decided to stop by Chattanooga and spontaneously chose State of Confusion based on the high reviews and ratings it got on Yelp. Our server, Ryan, was awesome. His hospitality and down to earth personality elevated our experience at State of Confusion, making it truly memorable. Thank you, Ryan! It was nice meeting you! What we ordered: Ceviche Tower - Our favorite menu item of the night. This was our first time trying Peruvian ceviche, so we did not know what to expect, and WOW~ it was so good. We highly recommend their ceviche! Plancha Chicken - The chicken flavor and texture was really good, albeit a little salty; however, we would order this again. Jambalaya - We liked their jambalaya, but would probably not order this again because we are more interested in trying out their other menu offerings. Overall, we really enjoyed our first time in State of Confusion and Chattanooga. We loved the casual, artsy vibes of the area. We hope to come back someday!
