We had a fantastic day at the beach

Yelp
We love to stay at the lodge a couple times a year.Great service, and rooms.Beautiful views of the lake from atop a mountain.Has good food and bar,but isn't open after 3 on Sunday.I would book next time while they are both open. That way we can have food and drinks and not have to go anywhere. This is your Working Man Review.

Yelp
We held our son's wedding at the Lodge in GoldenRod. I cannot say enough about the staff at the lodge. They went above and beyond to ensure the wedding was perfect and that our guests were taken care of! A huge shout out to Maggie, Gena, Chasity, and Alex! Alex you rocked sir! We will be back! If anyone is thinking of holding a wedding there, you won't regret it. They go all out for you.

Yelp
The lodge is incredible. Chalets also look great. Fantastic camping options for both RV and tents. Regarding the lodge, I've seen reviews suggesting the 1980's era decor needs to be updated, but I completely disagree. It's vintage at this point, and iconic. We stayed in an upper bluff room overlooking the lake. The views are incredible. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, and the shower pressure is fantastic. Fair warning though...the restaurant is not open during much of the week so it's good to be prepared to make some meals in your room. There's a fridge and a microwave so oatmeal, sandwiches, etc. Lots of cozy places to hang out and read throughout the lodge. Plenty of vending machines and an amazing pool that overlooks the lake. Plus, swimming in the lake down at the park beach is also fantastic. I would host a conference here if I could! Also, great place for families to gather. Front desks hosts are wonderful people. I do wish the beach attendant was on duty as you need their help to rent kayaks.

Yelp
Bathrooms were so very clean and it was surprisingly very quiet and peaceful at night

Yelp
After a long day of driving, we were blown away by the serenity and beauty of the views from the lodge. Our upper bluff room balcony offered a wonderful place to watch the stars come out as we sat outdoors late into the evening. The room was clean, quiet and calming with all the expected amenities including fabulous comfy beds and pillows! We found the somewhat vintage style of the room decor to be part of the charm. The restaurants were closed on the Sunday evening to Monday morning of our stay so plan accordingly. Fortunately we had packed ample healthy snacks for our road trip so were disappointed but not without options. The pool area is stunning as is the old school grandeur of the lodge lobby. In our experience the front desk staff was courteous and friendly. The only drawback is that for a one-night only stay beginning a longer road trip, the 20 plus mile trek from I-59 to the lodge...then back out again in the morning is long. The location of this resort is more suitable as a several-night destination. And for that longer stay I plan to return!

Yelp
Views from the lodge are breathtaking! We stayed in room 174, which offered a large patio with two lounge chairs and a table with 4 chairs. Rooms are large, offering a BR, living room with two bathrooms and two small TV's with about 100 channels. Sure the rooms are a bit dated, but that's part of the charm. With the room (ours was $200/night), you get access to the swimming pool (a bit small, with lots of kids), and access to the park's amenities - we visited the beach area which is a sandy area alongside the lake. Post-covid staffing challenges are impacting the service levels. Housekeeping services are not available daily, and service (and food) at the restaurant is inconsistent. We spent our one dinner at the restaurant pondering what it would have been like to be at a wedding - likely challenging. Overall this was a pleasant weekend.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this cabin, but there were flies and gnats everywhere! I knew there would be a few because you are out by the lake, but we had way too many. One of my guests got bit up pretty bad. I also noticed that the room already had several fly traps in place. So maybe they knew there was an issue before we checked in?? Besides the flies, the windows had children's hand prints in them and the deck wasn't cleaned. Also the bathrooms are a little outdated. This place could be really nice with a little pest control and upkeep. It is obvious there has not been any money put back into the property. Sydney, who was the manager, was really nice and professional and tried her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible, but other workers were a bit rude. I asked to see a room in the hotel to consider a future stay, but the response from the the front worker desk clerk was "NOPE," which was very unprofessional. She then proceeded to show me some pics of a room, but you can tell the pics were probably taken in the 90's (I hope and smh) based on some of the fixtures/appliances. Furthermore, Sydney did give us some flies "solution" spray so we could spray around the room, but it really didn't work. Flies were coming out of the drains so the room really needed some heavy duty pest control services. Also just a suggestion, since the cabins are somewhat far from the actual hotel, if you ever need anything from the front desk, I would advise to drive up there to get it and/or bring your own towels, trash bags, etc. It takes the hotel staff quite some time to bring any extra supplies that you may need. Other than that, the actual resort and scenery is beautiful. We sat out by the lake and even went horseback riding. I just think the cabins could be much better.

Leigh C.

Yelp
while it has been awhile since I have stayed IN the park I love riding through and seeing all the deer and even doing some hiking. The views are beautiful.

Yelp
Stayed here for seven nights. When we first arrived it was right before Halloween they had all sorts of fun activities set up for the kids. Campers were decorated and kids are running around in costumes trick-or-treating. It was a great family atmosphere. We were visiting for a fishing tournament on lake Guntersville. So we weren't partaking in any of the Halloween festivities but it was fun to watch. The staff at this RV resort were very friendly and answered any questions we had. The boat ramp was right near our site and we did not need to pay extra to use it. The campground is right near the lake our campsite was not next to the lake but you could see it. Campsite A16 where the smaller campers park and the Tenters. There are shower houses scattered throughout and are very clean I could tell they were cleaned once or twice a day. The camp store has a variety of items as well as beer/seltzers. There's also a laundry facility. They have some beautiful hiking trails and on top of the hill is the main lodge. Just ask the campground for a hiking map. We ended up eating here twice but it was nothing too great and the fact that they are closed Monday through Wednesday was a little inconvenient. One downfall of this place is there's no gas station nearby and driving into Guntersville takes at least 20 minutes. The road to get here is very winding and Felt a little treacherous with a camper and towing a boat. Really wish the outdoor pool was open but it's a seasonal thing it looks beautiful right overlooking the lake

Yelp
We had reservations for one night, 8/8/22. Total for a king room was $167.98, the room was spacious and clean but all amenities were dated. The balcony view was spectacular. We were attending a wedding at the beach within the park. Upon check in we were informed that the restaurant on site was CLOSED. Not only was it closed, it was to be closed all week , I got the impression that it was to be closed even longer. There are ZERO dining options within five miles and the twisty mountain roads become more hazardous at night. Fortunately the wedding provided some nourishment on Monday evening. Check out time is 11:00am, so we planned on sleeping in since we were not going to be able to enjoy breakfast at the lodge. That didn't happen! With a total of four cars in the parking lot it was evident that the place was not packed with guests, however the maintenance crew started pressure washing the hallway in front of our room (do not disturb sign on the door) at 9:00 in the morning. They were dragging the equipment up and down the stairs which are situated between every other room. Obviously we were not going to sleep in. We got ourselves together and decided to leave. However, all of the walkways and stairs were wet..,presenting a serious slip and fall hazard, especially when moving luggage up and down the stairs. Not a single warning sign in sight. After carefully negotiating the stairs and walkways we went to the lodge to check out, only to find an unmanned front office. I waited until I could speak to an employee, which turned out to be a polite young man with no authority. I explained my dissatisfaction with our stay and he apologized. Not enough! The room should have been discounted due to the lack of advertised services. This is a state run park! So sad.

Roy W.

Yelp
Nice campground! In my opinion, the best RV sites are those with concrete pads but to each his own. The bathhouse we used was very clean and maintained daily. Beautiful campground and highly recommend it..

Leah A.

Yelp
I came here with my sister and drove over 9 hours from Jacksonville, FL to attend a wedding at the lodge here a Lake Guntersville State Park. We were absolutely impressed with the entire grounds and the views from the top are spectacular! Talk about being one with nature.... This place has many cabins and housing options, but we stayed up at the main lodge where the inside was tastefully decorated and gave us the feeling of staying in a rustic resort. There was so much to explore in and around the lake and we also enjoyed the pool area with multiple views of the lake, mountains, trees and sky. Breath taking! I believe it was between $100-120 per night (maybe less) which was very reasonable since we were considering going down the hill to find a cheaper place to stay. Trust me...just pay to stay here. It's definitely worth it and if you have a 4-cylinder rental, you'll thank me later. Overall, the lake and the lodge is a perfect place to have a wedding or just a family vacation or a weekend get-away if you live close enough. Very reasonably priced with some really cool views and a ton of things to do and see on water or land while you're there. I would definitely go back tomorrow, but maybe fly next time. :) 5-STARS

Yelp
Our rooms were filthy, the staff were rude, broken internet, broken cable TV, everything except for the dumbbells were broken in the fitness room, how could it possibly get worse? Well - the power went out during the wedding reception. I could excuse the broken internet, the cable, and the power outage, things out of their control, but everything else amounted to shit. The rooms were gross, the coffee machine obviously wasn't cleaned, sticky and dusty counter tops, the TV was a old-styled tube TV (but with no cable anyway you can't do jack with the TV), there was a giant pile of like dead centipedes on the hallway floor for nearly the entire day that no one working there bothered with. After waiting 25 minutes for our waiter to bring us our bill and not being able to find any staff in the restaurant we just got up without paying. I asked the front counter for a plastic fork and knife (they're too cheap to provide any metal ones) and they told me to go to the restaurant which is the size of the staircase in the Rocky movies. I go down and ask for silverware at the kitchen, they point me to the back of the room and said "help yourself", I go there and there's nothing. I ask a server and they say "go to the front there's plenty up there go ahead", I don't see anything and start digging around in a drawer thinking that's what the person meant and then these two snooty little brat staff members approached me like I was a terrorist robbing a bank and not opening a drawer looking for, hopefully, plastic wrapped silverware in their disgusting and nasty lodge. The view and the outdoors are BEAUTIFUL, what a shame that people that live in the mountains make for bad lodge staff and don't deserve to live in beautiful mountains.

Yelp
We've been visiting Lake Guntersville for 15 years and this was our first visit to the state park. There is a small enclosed pond with donkeys, emus, and goats. They are friendly and you can feed them grass through the fence. Our visit was limited to part of the camp ground near the playground. There was a snake show hosted by Bama Pest & Wildlife. We learned about 20 different snakes, some we were able to touch. The playground is older and metal so be careful on hot days.

K M.

Yelp
Lake Guntersville lake is gorgeous other than that this is a badly unkept park. Behind the key code necessary entry gates to the campground there is No park supervision ! Maybe they need to hire a park host because it's a free for all. campers are allowed to bring dogs horse-size, allow them to defaecate all over lawns without cleanup, plus bark all day and evening. No set quiet time so many campsites were noisier that a bachelor party not respecting others life by disrupting late night talking, throwing things, scream-laughing, music blaring, all at extremely levels and partying with no regard for others who may want to get up early to actually enjoy nature. No phone numbers called were answered when requested assistance. No available garbage cans to dump daily trash in sight at all in any section. Wildlife was grand at dusk but you can tell the deer are fed by humans because they get up close and hang out roadside all Eve waiting for cars to drive by to be fed. Bathrooms are so-so to take a shower even though same dirt was in bathroom for 3 days Uncleaned but outside entry doors are more poop probably waterfowl. Lots were Unlevel and roads were broken up with huge craters ... it's just a terribly run state of Alabama park system. #SadPark

Yelp
We came to visit for the weekend and had as blast. We enjoyed the lodge the day we came for our zipline adventure. Special shout out to Matt and Neal for being such good sports with our crew!!!

Sharon H.

Yelp
This review is for screaming eagle zipline. First of all the idea of getting a gift card is to physically have a gift card to give to someone as a gift. But to my surprise u get an damn email. So when u r giving said card as a Christmas gift how do you give an email as a gift.. the set up at the lodge is the most ludicrous thing I've ever seen. Get your act together.. worse ever. And when I asked the kid to print one he said " we can do all kinds of things " but they can't print off card. So not only did we pay for it, we then had to come home and print the damn thing.. so what happens if u don't have a printer.... geez.. lesson learned will not refer anyone to purchase email gift card or recommend... Unsatisfied customer

Yelp
The park and lodges are getting some makeovers and there is more to do. Updates on lodge , cabins and chalets. We used to pop in to SP Mosand

Jeff W.

Yelp
This is our first and last time staying at the Lodge. The buffet was great and the view of the lake is beautiful, however we reserved a room (evidently from the 70's) with a "Park" view, which she meant to say was "Parkin lot view". It was very outdated, unkept, cob webs everywhere. Literally one pool cue at the pool table. VERY DISSATISFIED!

Yelp
Guntersville State Park Campground is one of the best! We stayed here for two weeks in a class "C" RV. We were on site E-15 which has a lake view (when other sites aren't occupied). There are some 320 sites available at the campground, but not all are full hook-up. There camp map details what services are available at each site. Sites E-4, 5, 6, 9 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 & 18 are all really nice with decently long, very level concrete pads. Sites E-4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 13, & 15 are set up so your door /awning side would face the lake. There are several trails available in the park for hiking. There is also a lot for the kids to do. Tons of roads for bike riding, an outdoor basketball and volleyball court, a fun water park for the littles and of course a fully stocked campstore. There is also a beautiful full service lodge/hotel with meeting spaces and a resturaunt. We didn't use the resturaunt but heard that they have a really good weekend breakfast buffet. Each campsite had a pad (most are gravel) a fire pit, large picnic table and a grill. There are many bath-houses throughout the park and they are VERY CLEAN. There are also two of the bat- houses that have coin-operated laundry facilities (washer and/or dryer are $1.50 each).

Yelp
Lake Guntersville is one of the most beautiful places in Alabama. I have stayed at both a camp site and a cabin in the state park. The camp site is very clean and has access to the lake for fishing. The biggest problem that I had with our particular camp site was that the hill from the road/parking was very steep to where you could set up the tents. It made it difficult to load and unload the vehicle or anytime you wanted to drive somewhere. This could be remedied by arriving early and asking for a flatter camp site but we were there late on a busy holiday weekend. The cabins look plain and small from the outside but are actually quite spacious. They have beautiful views of the lake from the back deck. There are only a couple of the cabins that have direct access to the lake. A few of the cabins are being rebuilt because of the April 2011 tornadoes. The park also has a beach area but I have not been to it. Outside of the park, nearby, is a place where you can rent boats. Some of the landscape is a bit torn up from the tornadoes but the park still has plenty of enjoyable scenery.

Zack M.

Yelp
Awesome scenery. Super relaxing. And fun times to be had around every corner. Cheers!

Brett O.

Yelp
We stayed in our camper at the rv park and was very disappointed in the cleanliness. Our picnic table had burn spots on it and the grass was about a foot high under it so when setting on the bench bugs would bit you bc the grass was so high. Also the grass was about a foot high around the fire pit. The sewer drain connect was over a foot out of the ground, so we couldn't get a straight drain shot out of our camper.

Amanda M.

Yelp
I wish I could rate this place lower than one star. We are EXTREMELY disappointed. We've been coming here for years, since the late 80's. Never had a problem, until this year. Our family (a total of around 30 people) visited the lodge and stayed in the cabins Memorial Day weekend. Upon arrival, we were excited and were expecting some nice tumblrs that my cousin spent a lot of time buying. She had also spent time making a personalized design for each one. These were special to us because they commemorated our reunion and we have not been able to be together in quite some time. Unfortunately, we discovered that the bags had been broken into and several glasses were stolen by housekeeping. Oddly enough, the staff later "found" them and mailed them to us. We just received them a few days ago and they were clearly used, with the designs altered or completely gone. Not only am I seriously disgusted by the fact that housekeeping is comfortable with stealing, but we had multiple air conditioning and refrigerator malfunctions, and obviously dirty sheets. However, these problems were not nearly as bad as the thought of employees rifling through our belongings and then using them. After over thirty years of being faithful patrons to this lodge, we will not be returning.

Mary H.

Yelp
Great place to be. If you have kids and just wont a day put great place for family. The best way to get out and make new people is to everything the park has to see.

Kathy B.

Yelp
We just stayed at the Lodge, room 174, for 3 nights. The furniture/decor is extremely outdated, stained carpet, mouldy tile in bathrooms, the bed is hard as a rock, with flat, plastic pillows, and 1 very itchy, stiff blanket that felt like it had never been washed. Sad, because the lobby and meeting rooms are very nice, although EVERY room of carpeting in the whole place is stained. The scenery is beautiful, but we won't be back.

Teresa W.

Yelp
I don't really know where to begin, as I used the State Park Lodge as the venue for many of my wedding events. I will try to start at the beginning in a chronological fashion, and I only hope you can follow my train of thought. When we first booked the Lodge, we met with a woman named Patty who was incredibly overwhelmed by the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Lodge. She was often difficult to get in touch with, and sometimes simply was not able to give us an answer to our questions (granted, they had been closed for a few years and had not done events in that time). Soon, she practically disappeared and I was panicking a bit about not totally confirming our date and other details. She finally contacted me and let me know that she had hired an assistant, Mark, whom I would be mostly communicating with about the vent. So Mark and I began discussing quotes for meals, alcohol, and lodging. He usually did a good job with responding in a timely manner, but he too eventually dropped off the face of the earth. Then out of the blue, a man named Bo emailed me requesting me to sign another contract which I had already signed. He gave no explanation as to who he was or why I needed to resign another document. Eventually I came to understand that HE was now to be my main contact regarding the wedding and surrounding events. Patty was never heard from or mentioned again (except what I said "Well, she said we would have ____ or that you would provide ______"). So now it's really time to make decisions. We decided to use the Lodge for the rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour, and reception (our ceremony was at a church). Many of our guests also chose to stay at the Lodge for one or two nights during the weekend. Bo and my wedding planner soon did most of the communicating, but I was always included in the e-mails and updated about conversations. Bo did an adequate job of coordinating all of our services, but he was a bit unprofessional for my taste (making weird crass jokes, smoking around us/right before meeting us, etc). The biggest complaint I have about the Lodge was their inconsistency with details. I was told they were going to have floor-length linens, but a few weeks away from the wedding I was told that they did not have floor-length linens. I was told that they provided wedding cakes, but they did not provide wedding cakes (not a big problem, see my Cake Crumbs review). I was told our guests would be able to reserve rooms by the night, but then they said that was not possible (this took us WEEKS to resolve). I was told our cocktail hour and reception would be closed to the public and private, but indeed this was NOT the case. During both events, guests from the Lodge were wandering in and out of the room (where the bar was) and were loud and a bit obnoxious during our event. We were told we would be able to bring CDs to play during these events, yet (very bad) live musicians were playing during our event and we were told we would not be able to play our CDs. They were unprepared for our cake cutting and we had to stand awkwardly at our cake while we waited for staff to retrieve a knife and server. Bartenders were rude to our guests. Our satellite bar was set up in a far corner and was rather sad looking in the nice room. Our hotel room AC was broken, but when we called the operator we were quickly fixed up, though the AC never quite got cold enough for an Alabama August. Oh, the positives? Why did I give them 3 stars? Well, first off, the price cannot be beat. This place is beautiful - with the newly renovated Lodge and the incredible view, it really is a steal. There are no rental fees if you are using their catering services. The food was pretty good for a non-gourmet place (the appetizers were very good). And, well, really that's it. It's a beautiful, beautiful place.

Barry B.

Yelp
I wish I had more to comment on about this place besides their buffet, but I've never stayed here - only eaten there. I can say that the drive in is incredible. During Christmas time, there were about 30 deer playing out on the golf course which was literally 10-15 away from the street. We stopped and watched them watch us. They didn't even move. It was incredible being that close to them. The lodge itself was recently renovated. I was only there once before it was renovated, so I don't recall what it looked like previously. But I can say that they did an incredible job. I do miss the open second floor that they used to have in the dining room though. Speaking of the dining room, I'd kill for a view like the one you have from inside and out on the deck. Although during one of my trips in December, it was below freezing out on the deck, so we made our trip out there very quick. The view of Lake Guntersville is amazing from way up there. Their Sunday buffet is the main reason I go there. I've eaten regular dinners there a few times (off the menu) and it was pretty good. But the brunch buffet is really good. It's pretty much what you would expect from most places - fruit bar, waffle station, eggs, hash browns, etc. But it was their prime rib that makes this special - ALL YOU CAN EAT! Maybe I'll spend a weekend there in the future (when it cools down) and see what the rest of the place is like.

Sandra P.

Yelp
The best part of this lodge is the views. They say that they are taking so many steps to avoid COVID. The majority of people we saw in the lobby were not wearing masks. At the restaurant, there are signs everywhere saying that masks are required, yet most of the people they let in did not have masks on. The food is not consistent. Dinner was good, but breakfast was not. The service was fair. Our server at dinner kept forgetting to bring things we asked for. We won't return.

MB G.

Yelp
We stayed here on the recommendation of Scottsboro residents. We were needing rooms for an indefinite number of days as we were evacuees from hurricane Irma, scheduled to hit FL. We stayed here for 5 days, played golf, challenging course, but beautiful views! The fitness center is nice too. I had hoped to do some serious walking around the grounds, but after two days of golf, Irma winds and rain came to Alabama, without any force, however. We had breakfast in the lodge everyday. I recommend the Lodge omelette! The staff was very attentive. Very enjoyable place to have landed in a unusual circumstance! BTW, no damage to our FL home!

Margaret M.

Yelp
The view was breath taking. The park was clean. The service was terrible. My family went here for a family reunion, one of the things the park told us is that there would be free WiFi in the cabins. The cabin that my family stayed in did not have WiFi we reported it ot the front desk and they told us that someone would fix it shortly no one ever showed. When we reported it again we were told that we must not know how to use WiFi because it was there. I found the place were it was supposed to be and told the front desk again that there was no WiFi. On one ever came to fix it the whole time we were there the people at the desk did not care if you had a problem they just wanted your money. The trails were nice some of them have not been cleaned in a while and were grown over in places.

Jacque H.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our night at this place. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we were just passing through. I would highly recommend this lovely rv Park. Beautiful scenery, exceptional bathhouses, and very friendly/welcoming staff. Hope we can come back this way and stay longer.

Yelp
Guntersville has some of the most beautiful vistas in Alabama, especially viewed from the hotel in the state park, Lake Guntersville Lodge. The park rangers (I guess you call them "rangers") are very knowledgeable and helpful, especially during eagle-watching season. Hundreds of bald eagles winter at Lake Guntersville, in addition to the many eagle families that live there year-round. Its really quite exciting to see a big mama eagle swoop down to the nest and feed the little babies. Come in January and February to see that. I would love to see an eagle bag a coot or snatch a fish. We'll have to come again for that. Guntersville was hit hard by the tornadoes in April 2011, and the hotel (Lake Guntersville Lodge) seems to have taken a direct hit. But they either repaired it very quickly or the hotel survived with very little damage, and we were quite comfy there. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly decent and service was pleasant and quick. They will remember you for the whole weekend if you are a decent tipper, as we all should be. I'm always amazed at how stingy some fools are with tips. As for the deer, please don't feed them from your car! You are only encouraging them to play in the streets and get smacked by a truck. I have never seen deer so willing to be so near to people, and folks, they are supposed to be wild animals, not pets. Yes, my kids were excited to see them up close, and maybe it's be because I hunt (birds, not deer), but I find it downright weird when something that's generally considered game walks up to your car expecting you to feed it. No, they aren't particularly dangerous, it's not bears after all, but still: let the wild animals be wild. Otherwise, it's just going to the zoo.

Yelp
OK is the best I can do... and that's really pushing it! The physical location is great but the camp ground has a lot to be desired of when compared to what you are paying even with a discount rate! The sites are not paved and are a mixture of rock, gravel and dirt. Not all sites have camp fire rings and the ones that do are haphazardly made of rocks. Sites are real close together with minimal vegetation and/or shade. Picnic tables have seen better days and should have been replaced decades ago. The one thing that they certainly do deserve props for is the bunk house. It's air conditioned, clean and the showers offer great privacy and the ability to control water flow and temperature mix. The staff at the gate house is pleasant and accommodating with a good selection of "darn I forgot" items for sale. Apparently just before my visit the park treated the water to control the water plants and dead floating fish were observed in multiple locations off of the floating docks... Support services are not close by, so don't forget anything. Fire wood is expensive. It's off the bucket list and I would be hard pressed to return. Not trying to be a buzz kill but it is what it is. I stayed during the week and the park was pretty much empty, during the weekends and holidays it must be a mad house. Once is enough.

Steve K.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for a week. Very relaxing. We stayed in the older part of the campground. It was shaded nice lots of wildlife comes into the camp liked that. There were several campers in that area that look to be permanent and need to be cleaned up old and run down cluttered up pretty bad. If u stay in the newer part you can't see them. We are going back soon. People at store very friendly.

Petey W.

Yelp
If you like unlevel gravel sites, gnats, rednecks and kids - this is the place for you! Took us over an hour to hook up in our class C RV which has at most taken us 10 minutes in all other campgrounds since we've owned it. Gravel makes any blocks impossible to keep in place, sewer line way too far to hook up to so the $26/night that was "only $2 more with full hook up" turned into $38/night drive out and made us both long for a WalMart or Cracker Barrel parking lot. Either would have been preferable... which you know is when it gets bad. The view is lovely, if you can peek around everything else to see it, but honestly - NOT WORTH IT!. Only redeeming trait I can find is that on the long and windy road into this nowhere land, there was no cell coverage (Verizon). The park does have internet availability and Cell coverage.

Yelp
We were told we could not bring our golf cart but several other campers were allowed to have theirs. I wasn't a fan of that considering my sister just had surgery and couldn't walk to everywhere she wanted to. The maintenance guy hit our camper with the mower and scuffed it and went on like nothing happened. Laundry mat doesn't have a change machine so I had to buy 6 drinks at $1.50 in the machines to get enough change to do a load of laundry. Campground in nice, we had a spot on the end so our lot was bigger than the others. Price is decent.

Yelp
Truly a beautiful park and like all Alabama parks I've visited, well maintained. View from lodge at sunset was awesome! Restaurant was pretty good. The campground area B is an older part and does not accommodate large RV's with slide outs very well - sites are way too close together that your picnic table is next to neighbors sewer connection. Neighbors fire pit way to close to your RV especially if you have a slide out there! The park management should consider reconfiguring this area with a bit more space for health reasons. A sewer connection should never be that close to your table! That section seems to be the area with tightest spaces so beware if large RV don't use area B. Otherwise this is a truly awesome park! Love how they place picnic spots thru out the park - well played there! So fix up area B or close off every other spot for sanitation and a better outdoor experience! Park staff was awesome in assisting us! Great staff!

Yelp
We had our 45th Class Reunion there on October 27, 2018. The food was soooo good. Everything was so clean. Thankyou for making our ReUnion such a success!!!!!

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS GORGEOUS! The hubby and I took a little weekend retreat to Lake Guntersville State Park--he set up a weekend for us to go to their Eagle Awareness event in January (I am a bird person LOL). The lodge was recently renovated 2 years ago and is very big with stone/wood/pillars/soft lighting/wildlife pictures and statues everywhere. There are plenty of large event rooms for conferences, receptions, weddings, reunions, etc. The view is breathtaking--off the back of the lodge there are two large lookout platforms and the lower platform has dining tables, a shallow swimming pool and a hot tub. Since we were there in the winter though, we did not get to enjoy the pool or hot tub! Our room was very nice, we stayed in the renovated hotel area and had a suite with a living room, kitchenette, and bedroom. Our balcony was ginormous and overlooked the lake. The staff was extremely nice, although they seemed a little out-of-sorts as we were checking in because two large church groups were checking in at the same time as us and were filling up the entire lobby waiting for their keys. No biggie though--for the remainder of our stay they were so nice and helpful any time we entered the lobby for anything. The Pinecrest Dining Room was a nice experience. Very large and beautiful--it kind of felt like a cruise ship dining room. Our "Eagle Awareness" weekend package included buffet meals in the dining room so we never ordered off the actual menu. The buffet was pretty good, not entirely gourmet though, and there were a few things that could be improved upon. I was especially happy to see on our first night that the buffet was all seafood! Fried fish, broiled fish, fried oysters, steamed & fried shrimp, sauteed mussels, and crab legs. The crab legs were waterlogged though making the meat hard to get out of the shell (which I informed the staff about on one of their feedback cards on the table). I was expecting the lunch buffet to be more on the lighter side (like sandwiches and soups), but it was heavy food such as ribs, fried chicken, green beans, etc. I wish they had offered a lighter alternative for lunch on the buffet. The servers were soooo nice--true southern hospitality in this place! All of our waitresses were so personable but professional at the same time. I highly recommend this place for a nice weekend getaway with your sweetie. It would also be great for family reunions, group retreats, etc. Trust me, it is a beautiful place and is very affordable! It is in the northeastern section of Alabama and is about a 3.5 hour drive from Atlanta.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery and lodging. Was here for a wedding and was able to travel up the long winding road that leads up to the Hotel area. Check in was smooth and the area behind the hotel is a scenic view of the lake. The room was spacious with two beds, a full bathroom and an additional sink area. There was a balcony that was spacious enough to hold quite a few people comfortably. The wedding ceremony ended up having a beautiful background and the reception was just as great. All the staff I came in contact with were more than hospitable and friendly. Definitely a great site for a retreat!

Yelp
The experience started out as terrible as the attitude of the man who checked us in. They wanted us to rent a separate campsite for each of our 3 very small tents.($40/ea for 2 nights.) After seeing the sites, we could sort of understand. There was hardly enough room for a one-person tent and that was on a hill... In addition, there was a special shrimpfest event that weekend. (The reason we went.) the event was advertised to last from 4pm-9pm. Without any notification, they pre-sold the tickets that morning and were sold out before 3. So... We pretty much endures the sweltering 95 degree heat all weekend for some disgusting funnel cake and nachos because that was all that was left in the food truck.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our visit here. We came for friends wedding & everything was really nice. We stayed in a chalet away from the lodge & was very relaxed, relaxed atmosphere with great views from our deck. The wedding was awesome! This would be a place I'd consider visiting again.

Yelp
I hate to have to write ths but my group that met from different parts of the state had several sick after eating Christmas lunch buffet. We all suspect it was the soured dressing. Please tell your staff manager. I liked the place until this. We had been there seveal times a month. just meeting place. I imagine it was just too much for the staff to cool and heat properly. But, you did make people sick. It took me a week to get over it.

Yelp
Let me just see if I can get this in within a couple paragraphs. First, I rated 1 star solely because of the view. It was absolutely beautiful. Might I say that the view and newly renovated facilities are the ONLY thing going for this lodge. Customer service is horrible. The event coordinators are hard to get in touch with. Sometimes it took 2 weeks for Bo or Patty to get back to me. Bo(my contact person) had a very self-righteous attitude and had to be reminded of changes to my event over and over again. It seemed as though they tried to make money regardless of how unhappy a client was. For instance, one of the rules for the lodge is if they provide something, you much rent/purchase it from them. So I inquired about chair covers for my event. My mother and I looked at them in Bo's office and we were very disappointed. They looked like a cheap white halloween cape. It was most definitely not worth the $5/each they were wanting in order to rent them. When my mother and I expressed our disappointment, Bo very smartly said, "You won't find them cheaper anywhere else". I beg to differ, since you can rent linen chair covers for around $2 offline. Anyway, he never mentioned that I would be allowed to rent chairs elsewhere until one month before the wedding when I emailed and specifically asked if I could bring my own chairs. He emailed back saying that the lodge has plenty of brides who bring their own chairs and then again very smarly stated that there things that I must understand....so I ended up only renting 10 chairs/covers. I had to specifically ask him the day before the wedding if the chair covers were included in my bill. He said he didn't remember anything like that being talked about. He quickly back-tracked when I mentioned that i had the email from a about 3 weeks before where I requested them and he said he would take care of it. He once again was sort of rude about it. I paid him over the phone and literally never heard from him again... The day of my wedding we walked into the Goldenrod room (where the wedding/reception was to be held in case of rain) and found that one of the automatic blinds was broken. It looked horrible and there was no way to hide it. We asked the staff what they could do and after hearing that it had been broken for 6 months and no one could fix it except for the blind company, I demanded to speak with Bo. I was upset since he took my money without letting me know about this issue. I agreed to rent a room that looked pretty, not a room with a messed up blind. I never heard from Bo. The staff members came back and said they got in touch with Bo and he would be there when he had a chance. I insisted that I get some discount because of the problem. They came back again and said that the general manager would give some sort of discount for it. 15 minutes later, two maintenance men carrying a ladder appeared and had the blind fixed within 3 minutes. I never saw a discount and never spoke with Bo. I was told that Brandy(a regular staff member) would be my contact person for the rest of the day. The only time Bo appeared was to come in while we were very busy decorating and show the room to another mother and daughter. He never once asked if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Even when my aunt and I passed him outside, he never asked about the day. I found him to be the biggest disappointment of the entire experience. The service during my reception was awful as well. My man of honor and mother had to refill the punch(something the staff was supposed to do). Also we had to ask for punch cups which turned out to be clear plastic cups that looked like what you would picnic with, not something worthy of a wedding reception. The staff brought in white plates that looked like they were seconds from an old restuarant and put them into a big tub under the reception table. My mom had to place them out on the table. They brought out silverware and put it on the table in a plastic container that looked like it belonged on the buffet at a local diner. Again, not worthy for a wedding reception. We never saw the staff during the reception except when my usher(brother-in-law) went all the way down stairs to find someone to refill our punch and milk. By the time they got up there, my party had already done it for themselves. Overall, I was very disappointed, more in the attitudes and unprofessionalism of the staff/event coordinators than the facilities. The only negative I have to say about the King suite that I rented was there was no wireless internet. You had to go all the way to the lodge business center for internet. I found that a little ridiculous since it was a newly renovated facility. All in all, it was a beautiful wedding and reception despite the service and definitely without the help of Bo or Patty.

Yelp
We ate at the lodge several times in the past three years and have always been very satisfied. The lodge is beautiful, the food and service is great and I would recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
This is a Great place. My wife and I really enjoy the Eagle Awareness program in January. The Park has a Super week end rate. The folks are all very friendly. You meet some very interesting folks. The storm really did some damage, but it's still really a beautiful place.

Yelp
the park has beautiful views, nice rooms, great banquet facilities although the need to update the carpet and chairs in the banquet rooms. i have stayed here many time on business trips and even got married here. even though the park was damaged by a tornado they seem to have made a lot of progress in the clean up. If you haven't been before the storm you might not really even notice at this point. Typical state park restaurant and bar. I would highly recommend this beautiful location.
