After arriving in South Lake Tahoe and checking into Marriott's Timber Lodge, we walked outside starving and spotted Stateline Brewery & Restaurant just a short walk away, about 600 feet from the hotel. The convenience alone made it an easy choice for lunch.
The entrance is very cool and unique. You walk in and immediately head down a spiral staircase with steep steps, landing directly on the first floor. At first, it almost feels like you walked in through the wrong entrance since you arrive right in the middle of the restaurant, but that is exactly how it is designed.
Service was excellent. We were seated right away and felt well taken care of from start to finish.
We ordered the fried calamari, and as people who order calamari often, the whole family agreed this was probably the best we have had. It was fried but not overly crispy, still tender, chewy, and perfectly cooked.
I ordered the Stateline tacos, steak with two tacos, which came with beans and Spanish rice. The tacos were double wrapped in yellow corn tortillas and were very flavorful, but the Spanish rice completely stole the show. It was bursting with flavor and spices without being overly salty. Just right. I was convinced a Hispanic person made it because it tasted that authentic and well balanced.
The ambiance was also great with dim lighting and a cool, relaxed vibe. Bonus points for having clean men's and women's restrooms, with several stalls in the women's bathroom.
Overall, great food, excellent service, and a unique atmosphere. We would absolutely come back.
