This resin statue is a 12-meter-high replica of the Statue of Liberty. It was sculpted as part of the commemoration of the centenary of the death of the artist Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904), a native of Colmar and creator of "Liberty Enlightening the World."
A series of initiatives and events, as well as numerous demonstrations, have been planned in Colmar to mark the anniversary of his death. Among these, the Municipality of Colmar has chosen to install this replica of the Statue of Liberty at the northern entrance to the city. It is intended to honor the most prestigious of Colmar residents and to pay tribute to the work of art that undoubtedly remains the most famous in the world. This statue is also an additional link with the United States, already symbolized since 1986 by the signing of a twinning pact between Colmar and the university town of Princeton, located not far from New York.
