Stay Central Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Edinburgh, United Kingdom

"Stay Central Hotel is just a 3-minute walk from the historic Royal Mile. In the Cowgate, this lively budget hotel is in Edinburgh's Old Town, within half a mile of Princes Street. It surrounds the Three Sisters bar, a pub and nightclub that hosts entertainment and lively events nightly. Dating back to 1621, the Stay Central Hotel retains many original features and is accessed by an old cobbled courtyard. Its en suite rooms each have a flat-screen TV and on-demand movies, an iPod docking station, tea and coffee-making facilities and a bathroom with a rainfall-style shower. Guests can relax outside the hotel, where there is an outdoor plasma screen and seating areas that are part of The Three Sisters cobbled courtyard and attracts a diverse mix of locals and tourists. Within a mile’s walking distance from the hotel are Holyroodhouse Palace, Festival Theatre and the National Museum. Princes Street Gardens and Edinburgh Castle can be reached in 10 minutes on foot." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

The 6 Best Hotels in Edinburgh (Updated 2025)

"Just three minutes from the popular Royal Mile, this three-star property is housed in a historic 17th-century building that’s been completely modernized; the interior is covered with funky, arty décor and lots of distinctive artwork. I like that the rooms are bright, clean, and spacious with super comfy beds; rooms include a flat-screen TV, desk, tea/coffee maker, and a rain shower with great pressure. There’s also a hearty complimentary breakfast with many options, including meat, eggs, fresh fruit, and vegetarian fare." - Matthew Kepnes

Excellent base to take advantage of all Edinburgh attractions. Short walking distance to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood House (everywhere - it lives up to its name). Breakfast is very good & plentiful. Right next door to great bar with live music and big outdoor seating area.

Very helpful staff. We thought we were booked at this hotel for our first night, we weren't . They had no spots open , but helped us find another hotel for the night and even waled our bags over to the new hotel. Outstanding service. We came back the next night for our reservation and had great clean rooms and a nice breakfast.

We got a whole room to ourselves and it was definitely worth it! Location is great and service was good. There are lots of restaurants and bars around. There was a party downstairs so if you want to go to bed early and in a quiet room maybe it’s not the best. But if you want to go out it’s perfect for you!

The location is decent, not too far from the Royal Mile, but prepare for lots of stairs and walking up steep hill to get there. One thing to note is that this hotel is connected to a dance club and a large outdoor venue for sports and entertainment which is open till 3am and they do party until 3am. While this place be your scene just know that it will be very loud until they close, and a little after. It’s a great location, staff are great and if you’re into the party scene I think this may be the place for you.

Awful experience - Would never return! The rooms are disgustingly dirty, and there was dust under the bed. The mattresses are in a deplorable condition - very old, uncomfortable, and filthy with disgusting stains. The toilet and sink were poorly cleaned after the previous guests, and the showers, along with the shower cabin glass, were revoltingly dirty. There was black mold in the room windows, and also in the bathroom, and the view from the room – probably intentionally obstructed by a partially covered window - is of garbage containers and the utility area. To make things worse, I found an unfinished bottle of drink in the wardrobe, likely left by previous guests. On the hallways, exposed to the guests, there was dirty laundry scattered around. What’s most appalling, and something guests are not informed about, is that there’s a bar with loud music operating downstairs for most of the night, making it impossible to sleep. Given the state of the hotel and its lack of cleanliness, I would assume there is no room service, if it weren’t for the loud staff conversations echoing through the halls during the day. If anyone can tolerate the constant filth, noise, and drunken guests from the bar, then this hotel might work for them. But if you expect actual hotel service, this is not the place for you.

Literally the worst hotel I have ever stayed in - in my entire life. I write this as I lay in bed listening to thumping music from a nightclub/courtyard party that will go on until gone 4am, every night. The room vibrates and even with ear plugs in I can feel the music vibrating my lungs. 1 star is being generous. I hope to god people read the reviews before staying here as they do not give adequate warning to people who are staying here that they will get NO sleep. Staff seem nice enough, and I'm sure the bed is comfy - but what's the point of a comfy bed if you can't actually get any sleep) but unless you are deaf or planning on not actually sleeping here (unless you're a vampire and want to sleep during the day?). I hate this place so much.

We have a family of four with teenagers traveling. Stay central was perfect. It had bunks in our room so both kids had their space. The room was comfortable, clean and just big enough for us. The staff was helpful, friendly and the space was fun and modern. Wed definitely stay again.

Friendly and colourfull place to be. Good beds. Breakfast fully equipped. Room clean and fresh. Modern bathroom. Nice rain shower.|Negative point: safety in bathroom! Showerfloor is slippery. My advice: horizontal bar of minimal length 30cm at 90 cm height. Vertical bar same length at 1.20cm height. Or hooked bar 80x60 cm. Reason of this remark: major balance problems.
