Stayokay Hostel Amsterdam Oost (Zeeburg)

What a gem! This hostel was perfect for us, a family of 5x. We booked a 6-person room with own bathroom and it was just the right thing for us. Clean, with 4x bunk beds and an upstairs bed for the parents, we had all that we needed. The breakfast buffet was great, the coffees good, the reception was always staffed, the beers from the tap were plentiful and the dinner menu (for those wanting not to go out but have some pub style food) was extensive. The staff were very helpful and the entire experience was very positive. Lots of other families around. Can only recommend this place to those travelling as family, using the hostel as a place to explore the city from and return in the evening for some much needed family time.

It's only 15 min away from the city centre and very well connected. The rooms are super clean, great heating, comfy beds, good shower pressure. The only but is the wall that separates the beds, it has round holes that let individual light pass through during the night which isn't very comfortable if your room mate stays up until 1 am. So the design is not the best. Also, at night there were a lot of young people in the restaurant who were not guests. And it would have been fine if they had not left the place super dirty after they left.

Nice hostel. It was nice that it it wasn’t in central Amsterdam. Cool neighbourhoods surrounding the hostel that were not tourist traps. The hostel itself was clean and nice. And the breakfast was fresh with plenty of options. However, it would be nice to have access to hot water and tea and coffee all day instead of just in the morning.

Very nice stay. The room was clean and spacious, and the bed was comfortable. It’s not in the center of Amsterdam, but bus 22 takes you directly to the train station, and tram 7 takes you to many nice spots around the city. Very practical! I have nothing bad to say about this place—100% recommended!

I’ve stayed here twice now, and both times have been great. The rooms are very clean and the setup of the beds are very comfortable. The location is also conveniently located. During my second stay, we had some trouble with the electronic lock of our room failing. The staff solved this promptly by reassigning us to the room next door very quickly. One minor complaint we had was that the breakfast was decent but not as good as the price would justify. Since this is a lively hostel, during the night we also heard a lot of noise. The free earplugs at reception helped a lot!

The hostel is very cozy and comfortable, the group I traveled with was very satisfied. The tram stop is also nearby. However, there were some security concerns. The booking was made under my name only, but other menbers of the group were able to check without even saying my name. None of the other guests were registered by name and no one was asked to show their documents. I hope you will work on this issue to make the hostel more secure

The room we stayed in (double comfort) was pretty good for a hostel. It was clean and spacious. However, because it is a hostel it can get quite noisy in the hallways especially in the mornings. The wifi in the room also pretty bad and very slow. The location for us was not very ideal as it took long for us to get into the city (40 min tram ride) and 1 tram and a 2 trains to get to the airport. However, there are plenty of nice restaurants and cafés nearby which we appreciated. Would also like to note to anyone who is staying here in the cooler months that the room get cool at night (they turn down the heat to conserve energy), so make sure to bring a sweater!

'The stay was okay', we were well received and were able to store our belongings in a locker – paid, but at a reasonable price – before check-in. The instructions were clear and the reception staff were pleasant. The room had everything to be good but it was dirty and had a terrible smell of cigarettes, which I believe was coming from other rooms through the ventilation ducts. The floor/skirtting was dirty and had a strange smell. A lot of accumulated dust caused everyone in the room to have allergic reactions during our stay.

They do price gouge for everything. The breakfast was amazing. Great location! Safe and secure!

Shower was weird. You had to keep pushing the button for water to come out every five seconds. It was super annoying. There's only ONE mirror for a shared room for 6 girls. Add more mirrors please! Tram stop was right in front of the hostel making it super easy to commute. Weird that the bar closes before midnight on a Friday night. Bartender wouldn't let us buy bottle beers. $8 to rent a towel. No lockers. Just cubbies.

Ok no. Don't come here. I booked a six person dorm here and it was kind of a disaster. First of all, the the girl at the counter was really rude. Her credit card machine wasn't working so she told me sorry you cannot stay here if you're credit card doesn't work. After about twenty minutes of getting it to work she was still rude. It was so bad. The room itself was ok, it was narrow but clean. There was no ventilation in the room so it was really muggy for six people. However, they do have a really good breakfast and the hotel itself isn't too shabby. If it weren't for the breakfast, I would give this place one star. Unacceptable customer service and I will not be back.

Not the worst hostel we've stayed at but if you stay here expect to be nickel and dimed. Their prices aren't that much cheaper than comparable hostels yet they charge you for everything. We stayed in a private two person room and were forced to pay €4.50 per towel we used and an additional fee for soap. Also the beds aren't made upon arrival and if you don't leave the sheets on the floor you are subject to an additional "cleaning fee." Also "no outside food or drinks allowed."

The value for money for this hotel is really good! The room has everything it needs and there are very nice lounges on the ground floor. The staff are friendly and everything is well organized. Gladly again!

The breakfast was pretty good and the hostel is in a great location! Quick bus ride or walk to any part of Amsterdam. The 6 bunk beds were decent (it's a hostel) and the shower was a little small but it's clean and the staff are helpful. Definitely a good bang for your buck!

I went on a tour of Europe with a group of 20 people and 5 of the girls got BED BUGS after staying here the first night. This made the rest of their trip awful. The location is decent but I do not feel that the safety standards are acceptable for people to stay here.
