The hostel was in excellent condition. My room, the bathrooms, and common areas were all up-to-date and clean. The lounge was also comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. My only gripe is that the bathrooms near the basement lounge were out of paper towels or toilet paper several times during my five-night stay. It is also located not far from centruum, the red light district, and Reguliersdwarsstraat. The food and drinks were reasonably priced, and slightly better than elsewhere nearby. I felt that my stay was worth the money.

Great hostel nestled near the red light district. Room was spacious, quirky without looking worn, and the view was gorgeous (backed out onto next canal). I appreciate that there’s a lift in the building. Not sure if it has air con as I visited in the fall. Only downsides are that there’s no free luggage storage and there’s no refrigerator nor kitchen so if you are on a budget be aware.

The reception staffs were polite, kind, and very welcoming. The only thing I did not like is the shower rooms. They did not have cover and it was half open. So the water while taking a shower will go out. At least manage to cover it so that the water will not spill out. Secondly, the key card. It was not working like 5 times. I need to constantly go back to reception to activate it again. They said if it is nearby phone, it will be sensitive and will be deactivated. But I always have my key card from my previous hotel/hostel and together with my phone, it’s working pretty fine. So this irritates me so much. I did not avail the locker storage when I check out because I just waited like less than 2 hours after check out then I left the common area already. The room was quiet except with the roommate who was a loud snore.

A good value for money and a great space for enjoying the hostel vibes. Despite being really reserved, I got to make a good friend here and we spent the whole day together visiting the city. The staff is nice and it’s super cool to mingle around all the international people!

Dear Stayokay Team, Overall, I enjoyed the good vibes and atmosphere during my stay, and I have usually been treated well at your hostel. However, I would like to share some feedback regarding the check-out policy. I was very surprised to learn that the check-out time is set at 10:30 AM, which I find unusually early compared to the standard times I have experienced in many hotels and hostels around the world. When I returned around 11:30 AM, I discovered that my key was already deactivated, which was inconvenient. Fortunately, a guest opened the room for me so I could collect my luggage and proceed with check-out. This experience left me quite disappointed, and it may discourage me from booking again in the future, despite the positive aspects of my stay. I kindly suggest reconsidering the check-out policy to be more in line with international standards, as this would make the overall experience much more comfortable. Best regards, Sherif

We absolutely loved it here. The rooms were comfy and spacious and the staff even let all of our friends in the same room for the first night, despite us being initially in 2. The common room is also super cool but the best part is the staff. Special shout out to Quinn and Selina who were unbelievably helpful when our friend had a health issue. Could not recommend enough and really reasonably priced for quality of stay.

I absolutely loved this hostel. Everything was super clean, spacious, and had a modern, comfortable design. The beds were really comfy, and the bathrooms were always clean. Honestly, it was totally worth the money for what I got. One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Highly recommended! 10 out of 10.

Nice hostel to stay in. Great location with the Neumarkt to the north, Waterlooplein to the east, and Chinatown/Red Light District to the west. The hostel has a comfortable vibe with a good amount of social space. The cafe on the main level is good with limited options, the options downstairs are not so great. There isn't a full kitchen, just a microwave and a kettle. Also the lift doesn't go to the kitchen in the basement so you have to use the stairs. The bathrooms are separate from the rooms which is a little awkward because I need to remember my purse and shoes every time I need to pee. The showers are very nice, kind of low pressure compared to what I'm used to but that seems normal for Europe. There's no curtain on the showers so water gets all over the floor. There's no curtain on the beds either so be aware if you're getting a mixed room. The lockers don't work with all locks, you need a lock with a thick metal bar to keep it locked. My cable lock didn't work so I had to buy a new one. The people at the desk are very kind and friendly. I think it's a little more expensive than it should be, I paid like €60 per night and the towels are €3,50 😱. When I looked on hostel world this one was one of the cheaper options but I think there are definitely cheaper ones out there as there are a lot of hostels in Amsterdam and many of them are probably not on the site. All in all I'm happy with my experience and I would recommend Stayokay, though if I was booking again myself I'd probably see if I could find something cheaper.

Yelp
I had nothing but a positive and pleasant experience at Stayokay! I really appreciated the outlets&small lamp on each bunk. Everything was very clean. Rooms are a wee bit stuffy, but nothing an open window couldn't fix. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Location was more or less central to everything; took me a 15-20 min bike ride to main attractions. I believe they rent out bikes,so rent one as soon as you get here. I found it a bit of a hassle to walk towards the center and find a rental, then drop it off by 5pm.

Yelp
Such a great place to stay! Only about 0.5 miles from the center of the city. I stayed in a dormitory style room with about 20 other women. I was skeptical at first because I worried about theft and just privacy in general, but the other women were very respectful. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and the staff was beyond helpful. I would 100% stay here again!

Yelp
This is a nice hostel in an excellent location. It's walking distance to pretty much everything a tourist could want, and is only a few minutes walk to many tram lines if you don't want to walk. The bathrooms are numerous and spacious and generally clean, though definitely still bring shoes for the shower. The Beds are fine, and the prices reasonable, at least, for Amsterdam. The bigs issue with this place is the lack of an elevator, despite many levels, and the lack of electrical outlets. The breakfast is fairly extensive and you can eat breakfast, have coffee, etc. while overlooking the canal. The staff is friendly. They sell tickets to many museums as well as transit tickets. They can call a taxi for you to take you+luggage to the train station, airport, whatever.

Yelp
My impression of this place went from "eh, Stayokay is just okay" to... not okay. This place feels like an orphanage. The staff seems out of touch with what the rest of the hostel looks and feels like. Old building, dim lighting in the dorms (there's not even an individual light per bed), dirty bathrooms, depressing grey bedsheets (mine had holes and a blood stain), no hooks to hang coats or towels in the rooms, and the bathroom is not even on the same floor as the dorms. Only one extension cord in a corner with 5 outlets in the 16-bed dorm we stayed in. This means you have to charge your phone far from your bed if you're lucky to even get an outlet. Wifi is only on the first floor. Staff is friendly and helpful in helping you get oriented to Amsterdam, but that's the least you should expect at any hostel. They seriously need to revamp this place. And it's the small things that don't take much that they could do for quick fixer-upper: add some hooks to the rooms, buy new bedsheets in brighter colors, install more electrical outlets, etc.

Yelp
My expectations were definitely met, and then (slightly) some! The price was right for what you're getting. the building is located on a canal, just near the red light district and tourist areas. The front desk has some deals on the city's attractions, and there is safe bike parking in the basement. I stayed in a 20 bed mixed room with a friend, so we took a bunk bed. People would enter and exit the room (usually respectfully) at various times through the night, but that is par for the hostel course. My room only had power outlets in one corner, so all charging had to be done in the lobby or lounge, which was a little inconvenient. There were nice large lockers outside of the rooms, but my friend and I ended up leaving our bags in the room and had no trouble, as did others. The wifi didn't reach the room well, but that's ok since I wasn't in Amsterdam to check facebook the whole time. There were many guests when I was there, so my friend and I found some folks to party with. We pre-gamed in the lounge, which had some snacks as well as nightly drink specials. The lounge also had a free breakfast in the morning, but since A: it ended at 9:30am, and B: I like drinking and staying up late, that shit wasn't happening for me. I heard it was nice though. Overall, definitely a solid choice for the price. Get there early to ensure a bed, as they had to turn away latecomers each day.

Yelp
I stayed here for five nights in a 16-bed dorm; I ended up here beacuse the rates they charged on Friday and Saturday nights were actually reasonable (the weekend rates at many Amsterdam hostels are more than double the rate they charge the rest of the week). The hostel faces one of the canals and is walking distance form a few tram lines and not far from the metro. The security lockers are HUGE, you can easily fit two large suitcases in one of them. On my floor they were located in the hallway (the hallway could only be accessed by people staying in one of the two dorms accessible from said hallway), which was actually nice in that you felt free to dig through your locker any time of night without fear of waking up your dorm mates. It also helped keep the dorm clear of obstructions (not an easy feat in a 16-bed dorm) since most people kept their stuff locked up in the hallway lockers. There was one huge shared co-ed bathroom on the floor (it's split in two but there's a swinging door between the two halves). Plently of toilets and showers; some toilet stalls were dirty but I lay the blame on fellow guests. Shower stalls had hooks to hang clothes and towels, separated from the shower itself by a one-foot divider. Unfortunately the water never got hotter than lukewarm. No paper towels or hand dryers were provided in the bathroom. Finding electrical outlets can be problematic; my dorm had ONE outlet that I could find. There were more outlets in the hallway up high along the wall, but not the most convenient spot. Electrical outlets in the front lounge can be found by the table in front of the front window; none were found near the orange couches. The free wifi always worked great in the lounge, but I don't know how it worked in the rest of the building since I never tried to connect anywhere else. The eating area only seemed to be open during the free breakfast hours (7:30-9:30 AM), otherwise there was no kitchen for guests to use. Free breakfast consisted of bread (no toaster available that i could see), rye krisps, rice crackers, spreads (butter, jelly/jam, some Nutella-esque cocoa spread), sliced sandwich meats and cheeses, cereals, milk, orange juice, and coffee/tea. Luggage storage is available before checking in or after checking out, but you will have to pay for it. The luggage lockers are in the front lounge, and I think there might be more of them in the basement.

Yelp
This hostel is adequate when it comes to actual physical accommodations; it's relatively clean and safe. It might not be the most comfortable or beautiful place to stay, but it gets the job done. The staff, however, is some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered.

Yelp
I agree with the reviews from Elaine and Eric. I decided to stay here because I stayed at a really nice HI hostel in Toronto and thought they'd have a similar quality. Not the case. We thought we had booked a private room (like, a four-person rather than a 16 person), but they only have dorm style, FYI (this of course could be our fault). - I do feel like we're in prison. - ONE outlet in the whole room. - there are no hooks or lights in the room except the main light. (Like, none by the beds). All the coat hooks are in the locker room but I don't want to leave my coat out there. This could easily be solved by putting hooks on the wooden side of the dorms... - if you forgot your towel, it's €4.5 + lockers are really big, but outside the dorm room. + free wifi, I think it's ok, but my friend's having trouble on it. + our sheets came folded in a sealed bag, made them feeeel like they are clean....it does feel pretty clean overall. + very pretty location along the canal. I wouldn't stay here again. We stayed at the flying pig one night and it's so much better! It's friendlier, all the people staying chat in the bar area, it had a totally different, happier vibe. I'm pretty sure it was a comparable price too. Plus, they let me rent a towel.

Yelp
My expectations were adequately met. I wanted a safe place to stay, a clean place to sleep, a clean bath and toilets to use, a good locker to keep my valuables. The staff were all helpful. There is a free breakfast included in the low cost of a stay. I asked for the squeaky door to be fixed, and within a hours it was oiled! It is totally functional and not beautiful. The beauty is outside in Amsterdam. If you think this is "like a prison", well, you are quite naive. It's basic and functional and the price reflects it. I'll take the low price, I'll come back. I suggest that light sleepers use earplugs and/or "sound barriers" (looks like headphones, but cover the ears-typically used with noisy tools). With these, I slept oblivious to all the snoring and late night arrivals. By the way, excellent location but be careful if you drift into the "Redlight Zone" at night.
