Small and nice restaurant. Great service and food.

This was one of the best fillet steaks I have had, cooked perfect and great flavour. 500kg it was spot on! Highly recommend and hope to return, great service & food!

Amazing dinner...think it was the best steak of my life honestly. Got the 200g filet medium rare and the salad with the orange mustard vinaigrette. Like everyone else says definitely make a reservation. I was alone on a Friday night and called about 3hrs before and they were wonderful enough to get me a table but that was just luck I think. If you want an amazing steak dinner with friendly service in Mainz Steakhaus El Chico is your spot.

I can't work out why there was a grumpy review about El Chico restaurant. We just had the finest Filet steak I've ever experienced and we have very good beef in Australia and many excellent steak restaurants A wonderful meal which couldn't be improved Malbec by the glass also good quality wine

5star for the food and -1000stars for the Menu. This is not how a Menu should Look like in an almost expensive restaurant. At least using the SMS system in the Phone and making a screenshot and using it as Menu would look better and readable as what is in front of the customers called menu

My favorite restaurant for steak. Best in Mainz!! I always come here every times if I visit Mainz city. I cannot missed the steak here. The quality of the meat and the perfect cooking here made steak become juicy in perfect condition. I would like to try the pure beef then I only order the steak without any sauce or decoration. It’s perfect!! I suggest to book the seat in advance because this restaurant is always full. Otherwise you need to come during unusual dining time to get the seat. As I said, come here when you have visited Mainz is a must!!

Great staff and steak! This restaurant is in a quiet street with perfect outdoor seats. Professional services! You must try the corn, super delicious! I finished it without taking a photo first.

Just ate there this evening. I ordered the 300g Filet cooked to medium as recommended by our server when I described how I wanted it. It was cooked as a true medium rare is in the United States - a thick stripe of red through the center. This piece of meat was the size of a baseball and tasted amazing. In my 61 years of life, I will say that this was in the top 2% of all steaks I’ve ever had. My wife, who likes the occasional steak, who, over the last 25 years I have coached down from hard medium well (ruined) steaks to medium-medium rare steaks ordered a 200g filet cooked medium well upon the servers advice. She described it as unbelievable and it was cooked to a perfect juicy pink. The salad that comes with the steak is offered with a yogurt or other type of dressing… I don’t eat dressing so I chose neither and they brought out a vial of olive oil and another of balsamic vinegar in case I wanted something different. I didn’t but my wife wished she could have had that. We ordered a baked potato to share… it was cooked just right. Each meal also came with two slices of garlic toast. The service was exceptional and the price was incredibly low. I had tap water to drink, my wife had sparkling water and a glass of wine - the tab was 78 Euros I believe. Small but excellent restaurant in the center of Mainz. Excellent atmosphere, superb food. Reasonable priced wine selection. Food excellent. Strongly recommend the New Zealand Lamb - go for the 300g, you won't regret. Salad - all fresh and tasty vegetables are pretty good - recommend dressing (orange vinaigrette) on the side Be back again this Wednesday.

Hands down the best steakhouse in Mainz. I ordered the 300g fillet medium cooked with steak fries and it was amazing. I also had the stuffed baked potato. The service was excellent, the staff was attentive but not bothersome, which is good when you are in a big group. My only complaint is I wish they had more sided items like grilled asparagus (when in season) and maybe some garlic mashed potatoes, grilled corn on the cob. I'd definitely return, but this place is not easy on the wallet.

My first dinner in Mainz was at El Chico. The decor was very small and quaint and intimate. I had the filet mignon with a peppercorn sauce medium well and a baked potato and grilled corn. Everything was delicious! The steak was perfection. The service was excellent. I had no issues with the fact that I didn't speak German because the waiters spoke English. I'd definitely go to El Chico again.

We got lost trying to locate but decided to keep on looking and glad we did. Great steak restaurant at very reasonable price. Met Lovely couple who lives locally.... Definitely worth the walk. Had the smaller steak

Wow, where do I start? Walked in around 7:00PM and the place was packed. They gave me a reserved table right away. Then I noticed there are 3 servers working their asses off tending to approximately 30 tables. I thought I will be there forever, but Five minutes in the youngest waiter takes my order and even manages a smile on his face. The lamb fillet is a MUST! Rarely found in the US it is tender like beef fillet, not "gamy" like lamb can sometimes be, and very affordable! Got a 300gr, fillet with fries, salad, beer and a double espresso for under $40!! And I was out in less than an hour. Best steakhouse!!

El Chico's is a great steakhouse and one of the best in Mainz. The menu is extremely simple and doesn't try to be everything to everyone. The atmosphere is very cozy and one can wear jeans and be comfortable sitting next to those who are wearing business casual. Reservations are a must, however, unlike many restaurants in Germany you can't linger at your table for hours. Due to the small size of the place the wait staff must turn tables quickly therefore we were allotted only 90 minutes for our dinner. That was more than enough time though as we were served quickly and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Parking can be a challenge but there are several parking garages nearby for a short walk. The steak was delicious and was served exactly as ordered. My wife and I will return!

This is my favorite place to eat in Mainz. The steaks are always perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth. The food is amazing but the staff is what makes this place so special! Oh the apple strudel is really good too!

Hands down one of the best restaurants in town. Consistent quality and excellent friendly service. We had the Lamb Filet with fresh garlic and the baked potato and the Filet Mignon with the little potato croquettes, just plain unreal.

Just across the bridge in Mainz is a great steakhouse by western standards. Finally!! A steak that is cut as a black angus, filet mignon and not a rinderfleish(rump steak cut). With a 200gram(7oz.) or 300 gram(10.5oz.) , well trimmed, and even better cooked and flavored steak this is the place that can actually satisfy your craving for a real steak. I tried them all over wiesbaden and this is the best. They do have ribeye if that is your thing too. The environment is more like a cafe (about 40 top), but clean, bistro sized, with friendly staff who try to make you feel at home as they are English friendly / tolerant and deliver good service. The red wines are well chosen and the pour is not skimpy baked potato and salad and you are set. prices are reasonable for this type of meal. you wont be disappointed. bonus= they take american express.
