Hotel Bourré Bonne Review | Hotels Above Par

"A luxurious steakhouse anchored by a shimmering open kitchen and a striking ceiling installation designed to evoke a starry night; one booth even features a Picasso above it. The menu emphasizes thoughtfully sourced proteins — juicy steaks such as filet and tomahawk alongside salmon — complemented by fresh salads and sides and indulgent accompaniments like “millionaire mac.” Seafood offerings are notably fresh thanks to the city’s global logistics hub, and a standout appetizer pairing is caviar served with pillowy mini brioche donuts. The restaurant is run in partnership with local restaurateur Kevin Grainger and offers an impressive bourbon and wine list to match the rich, elevated fare."

Perfect date night spot in Downtown Louisville! My wife and I had an incredible dinner here and can’t stop talking about it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with just the right mix of energy and intimacy — exactly what you want for a night out downtown. I had the ribeye with truffle butter, which was honestly one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, packed with flavor. The broccolini, croissant loaf, and tuna tartare were all top-notch. My wife ordered the filet with truffle butter and the twice-baked potato, and she was obsessed. We finished with the double chocolate mousse, and it was the perfect ending. Service was spot-on — attentive without hovering — and the pacing of the meal was just right. As the night went on, the place filled up and had that great “Friday night in Louisville” buzz, but never felt loud or chaotic. If you’re looking for a new favorite for special occasions, date nights, or just a next-level dining experience in Louisville, this is it. We’ll definitely be back!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience. Incredible service, the most delicious food (croissant loaf, lamb meatballs, filet—WOW—apple spice cake and cookies. I can’t say enough. I highly recommend the Lalo marg- incredibly smooth and delicious. We had the best night. Major props to Robbie, our server; we had the absolute best time. We can’t wait to come back!

Hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Louisville. My husband and I had dinner here downtown, and everything was incredible from start to finish. The service was friendly and relaxed, the food was unreal, and the whole atmosphere made the night feel special without being stuffy or over the top. I ordered the filet with truffle butter and the twice-baked potato — both were absolutely perfect. The steak melted in my mouth, and the potato might honestly be my new obsession. We shared the double chocolate mousse for dessert, and it was chef’s kiss. The space itself is beautiful, cozy, modern, and filled with great energy. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger and enjoy every bite. Louisville needed a spot like this. Already planning our next visit!

Our recent dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. We began with the Caesar wedge, which was crisp, fresh, and perfectly composed—a classic elevated with refined flavors and attention to detail. The highlight of the evening was the Wagyu steak, prepared with precision and cooked to perfection. It was incredibly tender, richly flavored, and truly one of the finest steaks I have ever enjoyed. Equally impressive was the service. Our waiter, Brian, provided an experience that was as memorable as the food itself. His professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine warmth elevated the evening. From guiding us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations to ensuring every detail of our meal was flawless, Brian’s service was exemplary. This combination of outstanding cuisine and impeccable service makes this restaurant an absolute standout. We look forward to returning and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience.

We had the pleasure of dining at Hotel Bourré Bonne steakhouse this evening and we were so impressed! The food was delicious. The steak was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The croissant loaf cannot be skipped. The wedge salad - one of the best I’ve ever had; those candied pecans on top were a game changer. The Mac-n-cheese and Brussels sprouts…I could go on and on but I don’t want to forget to mention the service! The service was just as remarkable as the food. They were professional , attentive and answered every question with a smile. It’s rare to find a restaurant with both quality and hospitality but Bourré Bonne nailed it! You do not want to miss out.

Google
What an incredible meal. Everything was flavorful including the cocktails. My husband and I shared a 14oz Riley. It was tender and melted in my mouth. Great seasoning and crust on the outside. We shared appetizers and sides among the table. Although it is expensive, it was worth every penny. A must try while in Louisville. Reservations highly recommended.

Louisville’s new go-to steakhouse… 100% worth the hype. My wife and I had dinner here in Downtown Louisville, and wow… what an incredible night. From the second we walked in, everything just felt right; the music, the lighting, the friendly staff. It’s the kind of spot that nails that balance between upscale and comfortable. I went with the ribeye with truffle butter, and it might honestly be the best steak I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The broccolini, croissant loaf, and tuna tartare were all unreal. My wife got the filet with truffle butter and twice-baked potato, and she couldn’t stop talking about it. We shared the double chocolate mousse for dessert, which sealed the deal. What I loved most was the vibe — early in the night it felt chill and intimate, but as it filled up later, it had that perfect Friday night in Louisville energy. Busy but never chaotic. Just great people having a great time. Massive props to the team for creating something this special. Every detail… from the pacing to the plating… feels intentional. You can tell this place was built by people who genuinely care about food and atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back.

Celebrated a birthday with a group of 10 Saturday night. The service is fantastic! Was greeted by concierge when I arrived. Seated immediately. The decor is amazing! So beautiful. Love open kitchen! Robbie, our server is top notch! 5 ⭐️! He suggested all the right menu items. I had the short rib entree! It was so tender, so delicious! The escargot was the best I’ve ever eaten. I tasted my friends salmon and was totally blown away! Like butta’! Did I say Robbie was the best! This restaurant has elevated the dining experience in Louisville!

Yelp
I'd rate a 4.5 if I could. The ambiance was spectacular. Definitely go for h the curate your own old fashioned! The lamb meatballs also may be one of my favorite things I ate. All in all a great experience and a total bang for your buck although it is high end so prepare to spend a bit. Only reason I can't give it a 5 star is our Ahi Tuna "catch of the day" entre came out after everyone had finished their food. It was one of the best Ahi Tunas I'd ever had so respectfully so was okay with the wait however, I feel like we should've been offered a free dessert or some sort of compensation. Still not mad about it though! We will be back no doubt.

Yelp
We were downtown to attend a show at the yum center and ignorantly didn't account for long waits at every restaurant. We stumbled upon Bourre Bonne and they had an open table in the bar area. I was very impressed with the ambience and the decor. It has a whole vibe that I am here for. We sat down and waited for a good while before being approached for our drink order. The restaurant was clearly understaffed, so we were trying to be patient. Despite making eye contact with a server several times, it took another 20 minutes or so before someone approached us for our order. The two things I had picked out to order were not available. Fast forward a bit more and our food arrives. We started with the bread and swapped out the bayou butter for truffle butter. This had such potential but we found the bread to be a bit underbaked. It has a lot of potential though and if baked well, would have been the star of the show. (Wild at a steakhouse). My children each ordered the filet. Surprisingly they were cooked as ordered but had zero flavor. My kids must be spoiled to good steak because they knew right away it wasn't worth the price tag. They ate it so as not to waste it but it left much to be desired. I think they mostly enjoyed the Mac and cheese that they ordered but I don't recall them commenting one way or the other. My husband ordered the Pacahna. One of his favorite cuts of meat because of the fat cap. There was nary a bit of fat to be seen (or tasted). Like the filet, there also was no flavor. I ended up going with a the tuna tartare. The taste was decent but you could tell it wasn't super fresh. About half way through eating it, they brought out some fried plantains to go with it. They were fine; it just would have been nice to have them from the beginning. We also ordered truffle fries. I could see the potential but they came out room temp at best. Nobody likes cold fries, so another waste of money. Lastly, the drinks. I had two glasses of white wine. The first came out nice and cold the second was room temp. My husbands beer came out cold so that's good. All in all, this place might be fine for drinks but I'm certain your money will be better spent at another steakhouse. It's not often we eat in a fine dining establishment but we are no strangers to the experience. If we are spending the amount of money that we did, we want it to be worth it from the service, to the experience, and most importantly, the food. Unfortunately, we didn't get any of that on our visit. I only gave two stars because I loved the atmosphere and to have a little grace for being understaffed. It really needs no stars in my opinion.

Yelp
We had dinner at Bourré Bonne and, unfortunately, it was disappointing. While the space itself is absolutely stunning and the service very attentive, those were the only highlights of the evening. For the price point, the wine and food simply do not measure up -- and charging $12 for a draft beer only adds to the frustration. The wine list is average at best yet priced as if it were top tier, and the food followed the same pattern. We began with the smoked fish dip, which was the most flavorful dish of the night and deserving of a 4/5. The salt-roasted beets, however, were lackluster -- bland cheese, minimal flavor from the beets, and nothing that would inspire a repeat order. The most disappointing dish was the lobster mac and cheese. The base dish is $18, with a lobster add-on for $30, bringing the total to $48. Our server assured us this included a full lobster tail, but that was not the case. The plate arrived with only a decorative lobster fin on top, and the amount of lobster in the dish was minimal. To make matters worse, what lobster was present was fishy and tough -- clear signs it was not fresh. For $48, this dish should be a standout; instead, it was embarrassing to see it on the menu at that quality. With so many incredible local restaurants in Louisville -- such as Jack Fry's and North of Bourbon -- it's hard to see how Bourré Bonne will succeed long term. Its only chance may be with out-of-town guests who don't know any better.

Yelp
Food and service was top notch. Raghu Strip with truffle butter (they heat table-side) was outstanding!! A bit pricey but definitely worth it!! Nice scene....

Yelp
Great upscale restaurant, especially for a celebration dinner. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because he loves a good steak. Food and service was excellent. Expensive but we knew what we were getting into. Although expensive, the food was definitely top notch and we enjoyed every bite. We had lobster bisque, beef tartar, wagyu strip, lamb chops, brussel sprouts, and tempura shrooms. The tartar had a slight kick to it but was good... served with kettle chips, toasted baguettes, and crackers. We got the shrooms because they were something different and was pleasantly surprised... a medley of mushrooms deep fried. The lamb chops and wagyu strip were both perfectly cooked and tender. The lobster bisque was poured into the bowl tableside. For my chops, I chose to have a blackened crispy garlic butter added and that was melted over the chops tableside as well.

Yelp
I have gone three times and got the maison salad every time. Drink the Pillow Top, it is weird and green with chartreuse in it. Also, the croissant loaf appetizer with the umami, bayou and garlic butter is definitely worth it.

Yelp
Ambiance and decor is spot on! Good was fantastic! Will definitely go back! The filets my husband and I had were cooked to perfection!

Yelp
I love trying new places, and trying a new high end restaurant is a special treat. I'm surprised to say this place simply was below the standard of its price point. Don't get me wrong, there are things to like. It's a lovely room, though I can't imagine them ever being able to fill it. The Croissant Loaf was excellent. But not much else was up to standard. My lobster bisque was weirdly bland. My filet was properly cooked to the medium rare I requested. But weirdly, it somehow managed to be dry in spite of not being overcooked. That was mystifying to me. Our service was not up to standards either. Our server gave poor direction regarding portion sizes. They indicated some dishes were big enough to be shared when that was clearly not the case. Conversely, one dessert was more than enough for several people, and this was not disclosed. And the overall service was simply not polished in the way one would expect from a place at this level. In a town with places like Jeff Ruby's, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, and quite a few others, this place is simply not good enough to earn a return visit.

Yelp
Great ambiance, very loud for group of 12- Sun glaring at us the whole time- they need to invest in tinting their windows and better blinds. My guests were wearing sunglasses and squinting 75 percent of the time at dinner. Was annoying. Service was ok at best- Ceaser salad was excellent, NY Strip was not cooked Medium Plus- rare... Seadfood tower was good- twice baked potato was good- very expensive - great ambiance - very loud - need to get blinds and I will give it another chance. Good vibes

Lindsey M.

Yelp
This steakhouse is incredible. The ambience is beautiful. The service was great and the steak was outstanding. I also loved the croissant loaf, the macaroni and cheese, and the cake for dessert. The woman who makes tableside drinks was fabulous. Really nice touch. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Went for my girlfriend's birthday and Jennifer was our lovely server! She was very personable and make sure we got all the right things. Had a couple minor issues which she got fixed instantly with no problem! The mod was a younger woman she was also very hospitable and understanding. Will definitely be back

Yelp
Fabulous, delicious and great service! Louisville finally has an upscale spot that checks all the boxes. I've been here at least a half dozen times, it never disappoints. Service? Fantastic. Professional, thoughtful. The managers and chef always go over and above. They went out of their way to accommodate me and literally saved the day one afternoon when we made an unexpected, special request for a birthday. You don't see that kind of customer service very often anymore. Decor? Stunning, beautiful tones of blues, purples and green with plush seating, big windows, gorgeous lighting and an open concept kitchen. You feel like you're stepping into an Architectural Digest feature. It's immersive and dreamy! Dining? The food, the food, the food! It's truly next level, delicious, well prepared, fresh. One of the best restaurants in the city. The steaks and seafood really shine. So far, each time we have truly dined like kings: Tomahawk Ribeye - huge, perfect flavor, beautiful presentation. Bone in Filet- melted like butter in our mouths, so tender and perfectly cooked. Lobster Bisque- stellar. A delicate little pile of lobster arrived placed beautifully in the bowl. Next, the server poured out the soup from a tiny teapot. I loved it, and the soup was terrific, perfect consistency with lots of flavor and depth. Broccoli Pistachio Casserole- definitely one of the best things I've ever eaten. Rich, creamy, light and a little extra something. Yum! A lovely twist on a classic. Desserts- the pastry chef here is top-notch. I love the lemon crème de pot... it's like eating a cloud. I could devour a whole bowl if they'd let me! I highly recommend this exceptional restaurant, it's such an unexpected respite from the other spots in town. I honestly can't say enough, just go! Other mentions: Parking is easy! You can use the lot next to the hotel, valet or park on the street. So convenient! Other spots downtown are such a hassle. Not here. Romantic and hip Rooftop: After dinner, explore the upstairs rooftop bar area. Fireplaces, cushy seats, live music and panoramic views of downtown. Breathtaking!!! The bartenders are talented, friendly and on top of it. Pricing: a good bang for the buck. Actually less expensive than some other downtown steakhouses. If I win the lottery, I'm moving into this hotel like an old Hollywood starlet. I'd be dining at Steakhouse Bourre Bonne every night. Sigh. Until then, I feel lucky to be able to step into this little piece of Heaven that consistently exceeds expectations.

Yelp
I called and made a reservation for Sunday. I explained it was for an anniversary and birthday. They said to do reservation online and confirmed that on a SUNDAY it would be in the new restaurant. I also noted these things on the reservation. Whoever answer the phone at the hotel was wrong. We arrived very dressed up and very disappointed that the restaurant was CLOSED & we were seated in a hotel lobby. Over dressed. And zero acknowledgment about the celebrations even tho it was noted. What a disappointment & embarrassing experience & overpriced meal in a lobby dressed to impress. The hotel needs to do better in answering questions and called twice to confirm where we would be seated

Yelp
This was our first time at Hotel Bourne Bonne as a staycation for our Anniversary. The ambiance is amazing. Very welcoming, clean, and expensive. This is def one of the nicer dining experiences in Louisville with plenty of areas to host private and intimate dinners. The service was also top notch. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and constantly checked in, as did the managers. The food is why I gave this experience 4 stars. The items we selected that we asked if they were shareable, weren't really the size of a normal shareable portion. Compared to other locations, it was not shareable. We did also order the 28 ounce tomahawk, which was cooked to perfection. Served on a steak board it was a great choice. We enjoyed the smoked, small batch old fashion a lot!!
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
We had absolutely horrible service. Our waiter started out nice but after bringing our drinks he disappeared. Someone else brought out Luke warm food. He never came back to our table to check on food - we received tuna not mahi mahi. Never asked if we wanted another cocktail (we did) never brought bill. I had to go to the hostess counter to request my bill. I've never had that happen in my life. I think he judged us based on appearance - don't judge a book by its cover Mr Waiter.

Yelp
The food and presentation was gorgeous. The drinks were delicious. The building was lovely and romantic. Our waiter, Robbie, had great recommendations and was very personable. We will be back!

Cristina K.

Yelp
The hotel and restaurant is a whole vibe. The decor and design is beautifully done. We went to the steakhouse for dinner. You can order several steaks and the chef will slice them on a board for all to share or you have enjoy your individual steak. Sides are big and plenty to share. We had the ribeye and wagyu steaks. Both were delicious but the ribeye was the star. We had Robby as our waiter and he was friendly and attentive. Great personality and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will be back soon. Recommend the croissant loaf and millionaire Mac and cheese plus the ribeye.

Yelp
I want to recommend Bourre Bonne restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky as a destination stay when you go to that fine city I recently stayed at this outstanding, beautiful venue. It is run by a general manager named Morty Valldejule , whose career I have followed from La Pavilion hotel in New Orleans to his new luxury facility in The place is masterly run. The restaurant is one to two star quality and excellent what's happening venue for? steak The chef and staff at the hotel do not miss a professionalism step and giving you fine dining What is also exquisite is the upstairs lounge which is in a happening place in the city If I could give this a 11 on a 10, I would

Yelp
We dined here a couple of weeks ago and had a fabulous experience. We had three young children with us, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating--plus, the kids genuinely enjoyed the food! My youngest is usually quite picky, but she couldn't get enough of the steak. Everyone needs to try the croissant loaf--it was absolutely incredible. I'm typically hesitant to order seafood anywhere that's not near the coast, but the seafood here was outstanding. Even our picky, non-seafood-eating kids happily ate the crab and shrimp. The restaurant itself is beautiful--an ideal spot for a night out with friends or a romantic date. It's truly a wonderful addition to Louisville's dining scene.

Natasha G.

Yelp
The ambiance was upscale and sooo unique! Food was absolutely delicious. We got the croissant bread, Brussels sprouts, broccolini, 12 oz wagyu steak with truffle butter (which I highly recommend), lobster pasta, roasted beets, and chicken. I would definitely come back here for a special occasion.

DeAndria T.

Yelp
It was perfect! My friend and I got dinner for her birthday. Jennifer, our server, was an absolute doll and great. The food left me in a food coma; it was that good. The ambiance was moody and top-tier. This is a place Louisville needed. I will definitely be back to try brunch.

Jerry C.

Yelp
Cold Food. Slow Service. No Excuse. Brunch was a disaster. Our table of 10 waited 45+ minutes for food--apps, salads, and entrées all came out cold. Not room temp--cold. Plates were hot, food was not. There were only a few other tables, yet we had to ask multiple times for water, drinks, anything. Zero urgency, zero communication. Then it took another 30 minutes just to get the check. No apology. No ownership. Just bad service and cold food at premium prices. I expect better--especially from a place that claims to be upscale.

Yelp
We arrived after the Derby with a group of 5. After placing our order and waiting for two hours for dinner and interacting with two different managers, we left without ever having received food. The manager (one of them) literally argued that we could continue to sit there and wait and hope for the best, implying it was our fault that we were the ones calling time of death after being held hostage for two hours. We had been told our food was "coming right out" for over a hour. The food we did receive (soup) arrived cold and no member of the service team ever brought us spoons... not like it was an edible temperature anyway. The experience felt like an SNL skit of the worst service imaginable. I would only recommend this place if you are ok with waiting for extended periods of time between drinks and potentially never receiving your food. And still being charged for the inedible food you did receive. Managers didn't help at all and desperately need retraining - dressing nice doesn't make your personality customer-facing.

Ed V.

Yelp
Best new restaurant in Louisville! you must try - Service was spectacular - ask for Sebastian - and wine list was great too. Probably the most elegant dining room we've been to.

Yelp
I was disappointed in my visit here. We arrived around 5:45 for our 6:30pm reservation. I knew we were early and let the hostess know that but since there were only a few tables seated, we thought we might test our luck and see if they could seat us early. Once we checked in for our reservation, the hostess let us know to have a seat at the bar across the hall and she would get us when our table was ready. We sat at the bar and no one came and got us. Finally, at 6:30pm (our original reservation time) we walked back over to check on our table and the hostess acted as if we had just walked in. So, we were a little frustrated that we sat at the bar for 45 minutes for nothing. The hostess sat us directly in the sun. Luckily, our server noticed and moved us to a better spot where the sun was not in our eyes. The food was good. The fish tip was tasty, the steak was outstanding, but the millionaire Mac & Cheese was subpar-not as flavorful as you would expect or as described. Our server, Sebastian, was great! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and he made the experience as good as it could be. The Smore's pie should be taken off of the menu. It was terrible. We were seated at 6:30pm and left around 8:30pm. I would understand the 2 hours spent there if it were busy, but there were less than 10 tables there. We were very disappointed and as locals, we won't be back.

Yelp
3/5. Nothing wowed us really. Croissant loaf was pretty good, wedge salad was pretty good. Everything else was slightly above average (filet, crab cakes, sides). Brown butter old fashioned was great. Service was better than most. Probably need more bar tenders as it took a long time to get drinks ordered from the bar. After dinner we went upstairs to the roof top in hopes of spending the rest of our evening out at this location. Music was so loud it caused physical pain so we went elsewhere.

Debbie G.

Yelp
The most beautiful bar and restaurant in Louisville. The food is amazing as well. We had our dinner done charcuterie style so the table could share. The bourbon and wine selection best in Kentucky. Definitely our favorite go to restaurant in Louisville.

Yelp
WHAT A FABULOUS DINING EXPERIENCE! The ambience was fabulous, service was OUTSTANDING, and the food was AMAZING! The entire staff was beyond kind and welcoming!! Can't wait to go back!

Chris W.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, the decor is amazing. I've gone three times, once for brunch & twice for dinner. Service is always good, the servers and host staff are lovely. The brunch was not good. Dinner the first time was very mid- got the lobster ravioli and I could've made it better at home but it was the first week the restaurant was open. Went back this weekend & the food was great! Steak is amazing, crab cakes are wonderful, sides are decent & the croissant appetizer is also very good. Their cocktail menu sucks but overall this place is a decent experience. But, you can find better options in Louisville for a cheaper price.

Lee Z.

Yelp
On Saturday, my wife and I met friends at Steakhouse Bourré Bonne in the new Hotel Bourré Bonne. It is clearly one of Louisville's finest restaurants. The food, the ambiance & service were comparable to our favorite NYC restaurants. The hotel is modern, warm & luxurious. From the courtyard valet entrance through the expansive lounge & bar and flow into the restaurant, the place was hopping! Yet it didn't feel crowded and it was remarkably easy to talk across the table. Our server was very well trained and seemed to anticipate our needs before we even asked. My wife and I were particularly pleased that downtown was so alive with activity. It was clearly the place to be. We ran into friends that said they stayed in the hotel for their anniversary and they felt it was the finest rooms in all of Louisville. We are looking forward to our next evening at the Steakhouse Bourré Bonne. The next time we will enjoy the lounge and bar for a while prior to dinner. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY AROUND!

Brittney W.

Yelp
Restaurant was absolutely fantastic! Our server, Caleb and the assistant GM Jason were so kind! I can't wait to come back!

Brooke M.

Yelp
The whole experience was beyond our expectations! From the moment you walk in, you don't feel like you are in Louisville anymore. Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance is elevated. Of course, we had to get their tableside smoked old-fashioned and the espresso martini, which tasted like a dessert. The croissant was the best bread in Louisville! Our favorite side was the twice-baked potato, and we split the tomahawk, which of course was perfectly cooked and phenomenal. We ended the night on the rooftop, which really makes the experience something Louisville has never seen before. First of all, the space is massive with 2 full bars, spacious seating indoors and outside. The seating outside has personal fire pits with an incredible view of the city. We will definitely be coming back for the rooftop pool and hot tub too! If you live in Louisville or you're just visiting, Hotel Bourre Bonne is a must!
