11 Best Places for Shopping in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"The late Stefano Bemer opened his bespoke men’s shoe business in the San Frediano neighborhood of Florence in 1983. (He famously took on Daniel Day-Lewis as an apprentice for ten months in 1999.) After Bemer’s death in 2012, the brand was acquired by Tommaso Melani, director of the famous Scuola di Cuoio leather school. Now housed in a deconsecrated chapel in the eastern Oltrarno, the brand still upholds Bemer’s initial quest to create perfect, stunning footwear. All shoes are designed and made in-house with high-quality leathers from all over the world (South African ostrich, Tuscan calfskin, American pony skin, and U.S. alligator), and all components—insoles and outsoles, heels and welts, oak shanks and cotton laces—are handmade by a team of local artisans." - Nicky Swallow

I have yet to get my 1st pair from Bemer but I will tell you that the experience in Florence is amazing. You will find the most knowledgeable and friendly people on hand. You will see the craftsman on the shop floor making customer shoes. You can meet the tailors upstairs and you can touch the meaning of Bespoke. A must see when you are in Florence next time.

Hello there. After visiting the shop in person and having my feet measured and a sizing established for me, I purchased my first pair of Mario Bemer shoes in 2020. When they arrived they were extremely well made, but they had neglected to install the trademark red eyelet. I emailed them and was shipped the eyelets and was directed to a local shoe shop for installation. Not a problem. Fast-forward, I wanted to get myself a Christmas present, so when I was emailed a really appealing sale offer, I decided to splurge and ordered a pair of boots on November 5, 2024. This has been nothing but a disaster. I was assured they had my size from my initial visit. I was assured they would arrive before the holidays. When I didn't receive any follow-ups, I emailed several times and was told that my emails were going to spam, yet within that email response on December 17, 2024, I was assured they would mail my order the next day and provide me with a tracking number. Since then I have had zero communication from any of the emails affiliated with their business except for marketing pitches to get me to buy more items. I am highly disappointed with this business and their customer service. I am hopeful that somehow I do receive my order, or I am able to receive a refund. Quality is excellent. Service has been terrible.

One of the best leather shoes you will ever seen, they also have customization.

This is one of those old world craftmen shoe makers that you rarely find anymore. While in the end I bought a pair of beautiful courderoy trousers and not a pair of shoes, if one has the budget (e1600 a pair!) and can deal with the waiting time (3 to 4 months), this is a shoe store that should be on your map on your trip to Florence.

I had great experience there. I ordered a MTO, but they measured my feet anyway as for bespoke service!

I love this place, very clean. Great, looking shoes, definitely.I will go back and get a pair or two, of course that will take some times is freaking far.The only problem is the website doesn't work.I can't see the shoes as individuals. And see the price. The only reason I did not give them five stars is because the website doesn't work. You can't see the shoes of the price.
