Where to Taste Tasmania's Wine and Food From Launceston to Hobart

"A family-run, Italian-influenced estate in southern Tasmania with an on-site osteria, stone-walled underground cellar and a copper still for grappa; wines show strong site expression — saline-tinged Pinot Gris, smoky-sour-cherry Pinot Noir, and a lithe take on Shiraz." - Betsy Andrews

This Island Off the Coast of Australia Is a Hidden Paradise for Sparkling Wine Lovers

"Perched above vineyards that slope toward the river Derwent, this estate was chosen 32 years ago by a South Australian winemaker chasing the specific conditions needed for world-class sparkling wine: a cool, frost-free climate, varied soils and a long growing season. Visitors note sweeping silvery views toward Hobart, a strong sense of place in the Derwent Valley and a clear, long-term focus on producing high-quality sparkling wines tied to the island’s unique terroir." - Besha Rodell Besha Rodell Besha Rodell is a James Beard Award-winning writer, editor, and restaurant critic with two decades of experience and an international following. 7 Small Wine Towns in Australia to Visit - AFAR

"Richmond is ideally positioned to take advantage of local wineries (don’t miss Frogmore Creek Winery and Stefano Lubiana Wines), culinary offerings (take a cooking class with produce grown and animals raised on the Agrarian Kitchen Cooking School and Farm’s five acres), and wildlife opportunities (get up close and personal with Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, wombats, and koalas at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary)—all of which are set under a 50-minute drive away." - Jake Emen

Worth a visit. Probably best to ring ahead and organize a tasting but they were very accommodating and fitted us in for a quick tasting. We tested only reds but we were delighted with them. Free shipping around Australia with more than 12 or $20 up to 11. A great range of wines. Beautiful location and buildings.

Just a short 20-minute drive from Hobart, Stefano Lubiana Wines feels like a slice of Tuscany tucked away in the Tasmanian countryside. The setting is absolutely stunning with a charming, Mediterranean-style cellar door that immediately draws you in. We did enjoy a glass of the Estate Pinot Noir and it was exceptional. Elegant, balanced, and full of character. The staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. Beautiful wines, a relaxed atmosphere, and breathtaking surroundings.. this is a spot we’ll definitely be returning to and can only recommend!!

Nestled in a breathtakingly beautiful setting, Stefano Lubiana Wines offers a truly picturesque escape. Our visit on a cold winter's day was warmed by the exceptional service and the stunning surroundings. The vineyard boasts an impressive selection of biodynamic wines, perfect for a self-guided tasting experience. Among the offerings, the vintage sparkling stood out as a highlight. Complementing the wine were delightful grazing platters, featuring a well-curated selection of fromage, charcuterie, and accompaniments. Each sip of wine paired beautifully with the antipasto snacks, making for a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Stefano Lubiana Wines is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in high-quality wines and delicious snack in a gorgeous setting. Highly recommended for a leisurely lunch with a view!

We chose here for our wedding anniversary lunch. And first time here. We wonder what stopped us for so many years to check this place out! Absolutely love here! The view of vineyard and over Derwent valley was amazing, food was beautiful, wine was divine, staff were really lovely. The northern Italian style tiramisu was the best I have had so far. We will definitely come back here a lot!

a true gem nestled in Tasmania's breathtaking landscape. The winery itself boasts stunning views that are as captivating as the wines they produce. I've recently developed a penchant for Tassie Pinot Noir, and Stefano Lubiana certainly didn't disappoint. Their Pinot Noirs are a revelation, showcasing the region's unique terroir in every sip.

One of the loveliest places on my trip. Stunning location, excellent wines, the staff are exemplary, friendly, and lovely people. The food was SPOT ON. I didn't need to season anything, the focus on simple, well executed food of organic, biodynamic and house grown origin is fantastic. Had the cucumbers and straciatella, beetroot with lentils and goats curd, mushroom bruschetta, and the amazing Gruyere and onion tart, followed by a perfectly cooked blue eye trevalla. The lemon verbena pannacotta was delicately zingy but the gluten free pear cake was a show stopper. The wine tastings are generous and informed for $5 p.p for 6 varietals. The limited nature of availability of some of these small batch vintages means you should buy unless you delay and be disappointed. The drive to and from the venue is also picturesque. Go on and try it!

lovely winery and cellar door. Lunch is divine and I can’t recommend the chefs menu enough. 6-7 dishes to try, the best pana cotta I’ve ever had for dessert!!! $5 for the wine tasting itself. I highly recommend their 2013 Chardonnay and 2008 Pinot noir!
