Frankfurter Hof Steigenberger (Frankfurt, Hesse) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A glance at the exterior of the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof tells you most of what you need to know about what it means to the city. This hotel, coming up on 150 years old, is as grand as ever, and standing as it does at the gateway to Frankfurt’s financial district it continues to play host to a substantial share of the city’s luxury customers. But anyone expecting a period piece — that is, a meticulously preserved 1876-style grand hotel to match the opulent, old-fashioned exterior — is in for a little bit of a surprise." - Tablet Hotels

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The location was very convenient to Frankfurt’s Christmas Markets and there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. We booked a “Grand Deluxe Room” and found it to be very comfortable, quiet, clean, and spacious, with a beautiful marble bathroom. The included breakfast was also good. We would happily stay here again!

Just got home from a two night stay at the Frankfurter Hof and it was exceptional. We were upgraded to one of their largest suites and it was among the best hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. The hotel had very high ceilings which make you feel like you have so much space, and then this particular suite did have tons of square footage as well and was very thoughtfully designed. I loved the Acqua Di Parma products and the touch button controls on the rainwater shower. Our bedroom overlooked the Christmas tree outside which was an amazing touch. We also enjoyed the piano player in the lobby. ||We had dinner at Oscar’s one night. The schnitzel was excellent. 12.50 for a 1L bottle of water is excessive (my wife asked for sparkling, they brought still, we didn’t complain about it). But that’s my only gripe of the stay. ||Breakfast buffet has eggs cooked to order and some delicious croissants. ||Service was great as well. Check in staff and concierge couldn’t have been nicer. We’ll be back again in the coming years.

This is a very beautiful hotel. The location is great and very walkable. The staff was very accommodating and friendly! But the rooms themselves aren't really what I would consider "5 star", they are a little dated. The spa facilities weren't tended to often, which resulted in lots of towels and glasses being left everywhere (and none of the electronic locks in the locker room worked). Overall, it is a nice stay but not a full "5 star" experience.

Google
Rooms: A bit old but sufficiently clean. Location: Centrally located, close to everything. Value for Money: Definitely good value for money, especially considering its historical charm. If I came back, I would definitely stay here again. The only negative aspect is the lack of parking options. In this type of hotel, it doesn't make sense to park your car in a different parking lot and charge the customer for it.

Google
I booked the Steigenberger with credit card perks as a special treat and a special treat it was. The room was beautiful — a walk-in closet, waterfall shower and an incredible bathtub. I loved that the hotel was only a short walking distance to the Christmas markets at Römerberg. And most importantly, I took one of the top 3 baths of my life in the amazing bathtub. Thank you!!

I want to leave this review specifically for the people who choose to stay at a hotel like this using credit card benefits, because for a supposed 5-star hotel, this one is lacking, to say the least. For individuals who can easily afford the nightly rate, go right ahead. For a hotel that sells itself as a 5-star establishment, this felt more like a 3-4 star hotel. The service felt cold. Maybe the customers who are paying cash get warmer treatment, but as someone who has stayed at true 5-star establishments across Asia, Africa, and elsewhere, the service here left me disappointed. Upon check-in, our room wasn't ready—which isn't a problem at all—but when they said they would call us when the room was ready, my husband asked if they could "WhatsApp" us instead. The employee's immediate response was, "No, we cannot," which left me wondering, What do you do if someone doesn't have a working number? Considering that a concierge in Turkey once helped me figure out a phone mishap by calling the phone company to fix the issue, a five-star hotel cannot accommodate another means of communication? Additionally, the hallways and rooms of this establishment felt more similar to a business conference hotel. Maybe the other floors have some decor, but as we were ceremoniously placed on the 1st or "2nd" floor, the hallway to our room was completely bare besides red carpet. Furthermore, the room we had was nice in size, especially since we had a toddler, but it felt bare with only the minimum: a bed, two chairs, and a desk. The amenity situation was also lacking for a 5-star establishment. I would say the positives are: they provided a pack and play that was actually set up, and a pillow and blanket were provided, which was a nice touch. My husband said the bar had good service and drinks.

Google
Grand old luxury hotel in a perfect location in central Frankfurt. Spacious, tastefully furnished rooms with all the amenities one would expect. Great bathroom and shower. |However, be very careful if you wish to amend a booking. They will charge unfairly for upgrades and so on. Don't make a non-refundable booking if you are not 100% sure of your arrangements. |46 euros for breakfast with no other option also led us to walking to nearby coffee shops both mornings we stayed here.

Google
Great atmosphere, perfect location, friendly and professional staff. BUT very difficult to operate remote control. My husband and I have at least 10 years of college between us could not get the volume up, shower is no up to the 5 stars standard. No shampoo., but shower gel and conditioner…. Hmmm I thought shampoo and shower gel are two different things

Yelp
Centrally located close to the Römer district, this grand dame has a lot of character, we enjoyed our stay. The service was good --we had a suite which was in the newer part of the hotel which was very nice. Compared to the Sofitel it was much better value for the money. Buffet breakfast was substantial and service staff helpful. We did find there to be a lot of transients in this neighbourhood, it was somewhat unsettling considering this is a tourist district, but the hotel itself was good.

Yelp
Enjoyed our stay. The staff was kind & helpful - offered us a map of the area and some recommendations on things to do. Parking was convenient, right across from the hotel. Our room was nice, AC worked well. The shower had hot water but -1 star because it was kind of awkward to get in/out of. If you're older, disabled, or a larger body it might be very difficult for you because the step up is steep and through a tight space wedged between the glass and the bathroom counter. (I write this as a 5'4" 140lb woman) also the bathtub would not fill up - only knee level or so and it would stop. The restaurant & bar were very nice. Enjoyed the food and drinks. The breakfast buffet was good, plenty of options.

Yelp
While Location and grand entrance is nice , most important meal of the day is breakfast. For as exclusive as they claim to be the variety is lackluster and options are limited . We stayed in 3 hotels throughout our trip and this has been the worse by far . Even the tea water was at best slightly warmer than room temp

Yelp
We stayed here for one night on our way out of Europe because we were flying out of Frankfurt. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a huge bathroom that had a separate tub and shower. The tub was just the right size for an after dinner soak. I didn't get a chance to use the gym but appreciate the fact that it's open 24 hours. Breakfast buffet had lots and lots of options. Eggs, meat, potatoes, fruit, yogurt, granola etc. did not eat any other meals here so cannot speak to that. Could not have been in a better location. We were able to walk to shops, restaurants and museums and only had to use a taxi in the morning to get to the airport.

Michael N.

Yelp
Enjoyed the hotel - but for one major issue - Visited twice in last 6 weeks, and both times had no hot water. Not much staff could do. Definitely a gating issue for a hotel.

Yelp
Iconic hotel in a great downtown location. Lots of things to see, do, eat, and drink within walking distance. Old world, high class decor and vibe. Beds are comfortable and great water pressure in the shower, although the whole half-glass door into the tub/shower is awkward. Full service room cleaning with turndown service each night. Small but cozy bar. Service is great and the staff is friendly and professional. Oscars restaurant is part of the hotel and serves great food.

Yelp
No unfortunately I don't recommend this hotel! I tried booking a stay for a relative that just got married. And wanted to gift them a special treat. That turned to a big headache and embarrassment. If you have special requests are book a extra they offer you will only get false promises and disappointment. My bill was changed to a higher amount. My request that was confirmed was just empty words.Dealing with this hotel was a nightmare. The extras I booked like the fruit basket was missing.Unprofessional service and no body has a clue about anything. They don't communicate well with each other so you need to repeat multiple times yourself.I had a very difficult situation booking this hotel. This hotel was a very stressful and difficult experience regret booking it. I will take my business back to Marriott lesson learned. But this hotel can't keep up with Marriott. It may look pretty but guest service needs big improvements.

Yelp
Phenomenal hotel centrally located to what we needed - staff and venue are perfect for our Christmas Holiday. The lounge allowed reserved tables which we didn't know how to reserve and we needed a walk-through of the spa and hotel room to understand what is complimentary and what is fee-based. Thanks for a great holiday!

Yelp
This is a glorious older hotel situated in a prime area of Frankfurt. When you enter you are greeted by incredibly magnificent decor and feel like you are transported to another time. It's elegant and opulent. As for the room, the space was definitely small and there was no view to speak of out the window, but the beautiful decor and ultra-modern bathroom more than made up for what it lacked. The bathroom had a large tub as well as a large walk in shower. The generously sized Aqua Di Parma toiletries were a very nice plus and smelled incredible! The staff was also outrageously friendly. Everyone we encountered at this hotel was so genuinely nice. It really makes you feel valued and welcomed. Overall, I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat. It was so close to everything we wanted to see and the luxurious accommodations + hospitality was first class!

Yelp
Awesome property in a great location. Rooms are spacious, clean and classy. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Easy walking distance to shopping and historic sites. Drive to the airport on a Tuesday morning was only 20 min. Had breakfast in the hotel and it was good. I think it's a bit overpriced considering all the food options outside the hotel but still a good option to try for at least one morning. Option to self park in the parking structure across the street will save you some $. Definitely worth a stay!

Yelp
Talk about old world glam, this is IT. Classy, gorgeous interior. Not overly bright nor dull, just the right amount of glow. The essence of luxury~ ;) We stayed here in September for our stop in Frankfurt, it was one of the highlights of our Germany trip. Great location, walkable distance to plenty of things to see and do in the heart of the city. Hotel staff were friendly, helpful and amazing. I received an email prior to our arrival asking for the preference of our hotel room and any amenities we needed.. I truly appreciate it. Thank you Leonard! Though it is a small gesture, you have to admit that it makes you feel special every time :) The breakfast is pretty standard European buffet style.. However, the hotel suites were nice and modern. Did I tell you how comfortable the bed is?! It's comfy! You even choose the kind of pillow you prefer..picky sleepers know what's up. We also thoroughly enjoyed the spa service, what we consider one of the Best Spa treatments from a hotel. Georgina is Awesome. My husband got us the Spa Suite and all I could say is "Man didn't we feel reborn afterwards!" The only thing though...wish we could have stayed there longer! lol. Until next visit!!

Yelp
For my last night on a fantastic vacation through England & Germany, I decided to splurge for a night here. I was greeted immediately by the door staff who took my luggage for me and waited near the front desk as I got checked in. The doorman brought my luggage all the way up to my room, which was very nice! The room itself was HUGE with a walk-in closet that was as big as the bathroom if not larger. While there were complementary bottles of mineral water on the nightstands, the minibar will cost you if you so choose to partake. :-) Had a nice Whiskey Sour at the hotel bar before dinner, then dined in the adjacent restaurant. I definitely went with German-themed food as this was my last night before heading back home. The Wienerschnitzel (pork cutlet) was so big it practically fell off the plate! Afterward I brought a couple of nice cigars with me to enjoy in the smoking lounge and wound up chatting at length to a couple college students who had spent the night and were waiting to head out to take a late train back home. Had a wonderful night's sleep and awakened refreshed and ready to fly back home. I think I'm going to make this my regular hotel whenever I'm in Frankfurt.

Yelp
No complaints. Excellent service, clean, high end comforts. Concierge excellent! Super location. Darn the spa isn't open but I mostly walked. Elegance at its best in Frankfurt!

Yelp
This is one of the nicest hotels in Frankfort. Employees here are well trained, polite and professional. I want to give a special thanks to employee K. Horbotava who went out of her way to help us in an early check-in after flying 26 hours without sleep. This hotel is clean and elegant and only 3 blocks from Christmas Markets. Our room was very large, marble bathrooms and hotel is well decorated. Door men are extremely friendly and helpful with providing directions and helping with getting luggage to the room.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel in every way. If you are looking for a first class hotel experience, you can't go wrong. The property, restaurants and staff are outstanding. Location is walking distance to entertainment, museums and lots of food choices. We would never consider another hotel while in Frankfurt. Highly recommended.

Yelp
While we only stayed one night in the totally updated room366-I was wishing we could extend for a few more days to take in all this lovely hotel has to offer. We arrived around midday from the train station and were delighted to be able to get into our room right away-always a pleasant surprise. Check in was quick and efficient and soon we were on our way. Our room was at the end of the hall (my favorite) as they tend to be quieter. The hotel looks like a 19th century palace from the outside but was originally built as a hotel in the late 1800's and restored after its destruction in WWII. It has always been a hotel. Pros (based on room 366- newly renovated) -very spacious and modern room with 12 ft ceilings and plenty of room to spread out -wonderful modern bath with rain shower and separate toilet room with bidet, large whirlpool tub with tv and double sinks-top notch -Large firm bed with dual comforters -nice location, close to scenic old town and sights -great front desk staff, helpful concierge desk -fast and free in room wifi -really quiet room -good value Opportunity -pillows were a laughably flimsy and well below the quality level of this hotel. Bottom line: this is a wonderful hotel in a great location with easy walking to key sights in Frankfurt and just blocks from the Christmas market. This is our second experience with the Steigenberger brand (stayed with them also in Vienna) and I wouldn't hesitate to stay with them again. They know what they are doing.

Yelp
Grand hotel in a fantastic location. Nice walk to the city center. Everything essential in close proximity. Very nice hotel, beautiful rooms, nice bedding, very comfortable. Love the outdoor patio and garden. So inviting. Interior very captivating. Indoor library with a luxury feel. Definitely a great fav of mine. Taxi to airport about €40. Train is an alternative. I needed my eyes checked out and there was an eye doctor right across the street who was marvelous. Had the latest and greatest technology. Can't wait to visit soon again.

Yelp
100th REVIEW IN 2016! Ah, Steigenberger Hof, how I love thee! How I wish I could live there! After experiencing Adlon Kempinski in Berlin, I never thought I would be able to enjoy an opulent hotel again. Thankfully, I was wrong. And SFH outdid themselves, exceeding Kempinsky. We had checked out of our previous hotel in Frankfurt and arrived at SFH around 1130. The room was not ready yet but they said they would quickly get us one and to perhaps enjoy the lounge while we wait. We had coffee in the lounge and then headed up to the room within 30 minutes. No charge for getting us in early. In fact, we were upgraded. When I first walked into our room, my mouth was on the floor. Holy crap, this place was gorgeous! Huge bedroom with a chaise lounge and comfy seat, a walk-in closet (yes, a walk-in) and a bathroom to die for. It offered both a soaking tub with a tv/stereo and an enormous shower. Not just any shower, mind you. This had both a handheld shower head and a rain shower built into the ceiling. The lights slowly change colors. Needless to say, I was squeaky clean when I left the hotel at the end of my stay because I could stay in that shower for hours! The service was impeccable and the breakfast buffet was delicious. It is centrally located and a quick walk to the Christmas markets. Oh, and the room also included a Nespresso coffee maker, for those fellow Americans who have to have coffee in the morning to move, like me. Love, love, love this hotel!

Yelp
This is an airport hotel, so my expectation wasn't high. In and out, and off you go. However, they have some great amenities. If you need to kill some time, check out the fitness center, sauna, steam bath and indoor-rooftop pool. It was relaxing once we got off our 6 hours train ride. Note: they offer shuttle TO and FROM airport/hotel. Based on the website, it seems to offers shuttle to airport only. Also, it's not free when they asked $4 euros for the shuttle.

Yelp
Super nice hotel with friendly staff and great service. Room was very clean and room service was amazing. The only concern was complete lack of AC (despite turning AC on, it was extremely hot in the room). When I talked to few other guests, same problem was in other rooms.

Jean F.

Yelp
Travelling to Frankfurt from the States for business. This is an old school elegant hotel that is trying to keep up with modern standards My room was huge but I had an unpleasant check-in experience (arriving from airport after red eye transatlantic flight) and in the end had to be moved as the room I was unceremoniously given was not even the level I booked at ("deluxe") My new room was very large with a dimly lit walk-in closet. There was a minibar but no in-room coffee service. The hotel has a Michelin star restaurant which I tried out. All in all it was a pleasant experience but I'd prefer to stick to a global chain like Hilton or Marriott for consistency sake.

Yelp
The hotel building and the rooms are excellent and quite impressive. The building is a well maintained older building with marble and art throughout. The rooms are very spacious and well furnished with a sizable desk, amour, and a large king bed. There was also a very small balcony on our room which overlooked the cathedral. Their WiFi is excellent. The location is also pretty central. We were a 20 minute (or less) walk to all of the attractions in the city that we desired to visit and only a couple blocks to the beautiful river walk. Unfortunately, the service we received and some oversights on the room knocked our experience down a couple stars. In the lobby at check in, we inquired where in the city we could watch a German football match. We were told the hotel bar (which doesn't have TVs). We were than told the hotel patio which was nice, and not very busy but again the service was poor. It took at least 15 minutes to get a beer (from the time it was ordered) and staff seemed to disappear to watch the game. When it started raining, guests were on their own as the waitstaff watched the TV. The room doesn't offer a wine bottle opener in the room. We called to request one and a friendly gentleman arrived in record time to our door. Although he wouldn't give us the bottle opener, he had to open the bottle himself and leave with the opener for fear we would steal it. This was odd. The room doesn't have tea or coffee. You must order that off the room service menu where they are no cost, but you have to pay a delivery charge. The other pricing on the breakfast menu we thought was egregious. Two eggs and toast will run you $53 USD. The air conditioning in the room is significantly undersized. It pumps out cold air but not enough to efficiently cool the room, resulting in our room being rather warm all evening. A staff member came to our door at 8am and than again at 10am, quickly knocking and opening the door while we were trying to sleep. This despite check out being at noon. The spa is very nice, especially the wet sauna, and is available to guests of the hotel free of charge (you just pay for treatments). We enjoyed the wet sauna and relaxing heated beds but were disappointed when we returned to our room and our keys had been deactivated despite having arranged for late check out. The hotel did offer to extend our check out rather significantly. Overall, we would look to stay somewhere else on our next trip to Frankfurt but wouldn't object to another stay at this hotel. If we return, we will certainly take advantage of the spa again!

Yelp
Nice hotel, friendly stuff, very comfy room, yet the food downstairs tastes like Scheiße. Highly recommend anyone to stay here, just find elsewhere to dine.

Yelp
Friendly staff, excellent location, good food, excellent room service, nice designed rooms, easy and non complex check-in, good parking places around the hotel.

Yelp
I love this hotel: the decor, the service, the rooms, the food. Easily one of the best hotels in Frankfurt. This hotel is conveniently located near most of the major tourist attractions, but far enough to be in a quite and safe area. The room was spacious and nice and the service really was excellent. Keep in mind, however, that the restaurant Francis is taking a break for this month. Regardless, the other restaurants were very good. Definitely the hotel of choice for Frankfurt!

Yelp
We arrived after an 10 hour flight and planned on one night stay at the Steigenberger. It's the best nights sleep I've had in months!!! Wonderful front desk staff, accommodating round the clock. Wish I were staying longer to enjoy more of the hotel and to explore Frankfurt. I'll be back!

Yelp
Rooms are clean and pleasant, service is prompt, and location is convenient. I enjoyed my quick stay and would be happy to stay here again.

Yelp
There is nothing really open on a beautiful Sunday in Frankfurt, why not an European champagne Sunday Brunch??!!? It was really good!!! Lecker!!!

Yelp
Quite easily one of the best hotels in Frankfurt. The outfit is a bit tired, but the offering in terms of style and service is outstanding and some real characters serve in the hotel. The rooms are standard 5-star rooms, some recently renovated. The restaurants: Oscar's: Wide variety of "quick" bistro-style dishes. Staff can be a bit unfriendly at peak times or towards the end of the opening times. Francais: A Michelin-starred outfit. Expensive, but worth every cent. Immaculate service, innovative cuisine Autorenbar: The place to meet for the high-flyers. Look out for Monsieur Bariole, the best barkeeper in town Cigarrum: Their Cigar Loung, closed during the summer, but a great place in winter to sit by the fireplace and have some cigars and rum as the name suggests. Negotiate your price carefully. With a bit of skill you can get them to make really good offers outside of peak times.

Yelp
This is yet another Steigenberger Hotel that is in a great location and has the typical very upscale Steigenberger Flair. This is a good hotel to work at, to have a romantic weekend or to just stay in Frankfurt. If you are from the US this is a good way to experience a European upscale hotel. There was a mixup with my hotel reservation but the staff was helpful in making sure that I have the same room that I booked despite them being almost booked out. It has a good gym, but I did not try the spa. The room service is excellent and the staff very professional and courteous. The rooms are plenty big and there is a great outdoor area and a fine restaurant upstairs. I had a good time here and will come back when in Frankfurt. I suggest to let the valet park your car. Parking is limited unless you want to park in a nearby parking garage, which I wasn't going to do with my rental.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
One of the most regal of hotels in Frankfurt. When you approach the hotel it wreaks of old world elegance. The staff is excellent and any time I have had a small problem with a room, they have always fixed it right away. The front desk staff and management have always been very accommodating when I had a special request and when they couldn't help, they got on the phone to find me a solution. The rooms are older but have a lot of character. Beautifully furnished with great views of the city. Location is perfect. Near restaurants, shopping and convenient to the business district. The property has a number of restaurants and bars so entertaining visitors/clients is easy if you do not want to leave the hotel. In Frankfurt, I would only stay here or the Hessischer Hof hands down.
google avatar

Alexandra S.

Yelp
I really don't get all the high ratings for this hotel. It looks tacky from the outside, you have to walk through restaurants and bars to try to get to the reception, the rooms are outdated (bidet in the bathroom, really??) and it's so overpriced (8€ charge to bring you mediocre food to the room, 7€ bottle of water in room). The only thing I can compliment is the bed and the location. Not sure I would pay for this with my own money.
google avatar

Debbie S.

Yelp
Tha facade of the hotel is beautiful. Rooms are clean and location is good. Just a couple of minutes walk and you will reach the shopping district and some historical sights. There's a coffee shop and bakery nearby. There are a lot of money changers around the area too. Wouldn't book anywhere else.

Yelp
Great drinks for out of town guests. Europe can produce questionable cocktails, but the lobby bar is a wonderful exception. The bartenders know how to craft the perfect drink. From mojitos to cosmos, margaritas to Apple martinis....we tried a little of everything and they were amazing. Good atmosphere. Love piano and saxophone music on Saturday afternoons. It was a great time.
