Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg (Hamburg, Germany) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hamburg’s Steigenberger Hotel sums up the Fleetinsel district in a single façade — staggered Hanseatic bricks, simultaneously historic and modern, flanked by canals, easily walkable from any city fixture that comes to mind. Inside, it’s sleek minimalism scaled up for the business travel set, with a slight Buddhist theme to the artwork in the public spaces. Rooms make good use of recessed lighting and mid-century-inspired furnishings, especially when the view captures the energy of the Alsterfleet below." - Tablet Hotels

We had high hopes for our stay, but unfortunately, several issues impacted our comfort. The shower was leaky and water went everywhere in the bathroom, there was no minibar in the room (despite it saying that there was), and we had to call multiple times about the black-out curtains—which were never fixed. They kept telling us someone would come but after the first person who couldn’t fix it, no one else showed. As a result, the large glowing “Fraser Suites” sign from across the canal kept us up at night. The room was also uncomfortably hot, with no way to control the temperature, and there were no USB charging ports available, which felt outdated for a hotel in this class. On the positive side, the room was super clean, otherwise nice, staff were kind and courteous throughout our stay. The concierge service was friendly, although not always very helpful—we were repeatedly told “Landungsbrücke 1” when asking about harbor rides, without clear directions on how to get there. That said, we appreciated being able to stow our luggage before check-in and have it delivered to us later, and when we needed extra towels and tissues, they arrived promptly. Overall, while the staff was lovely and eager to help, the lack of follow-through on the curtain issue made for a less-than-relaxing experience. We were compensated with chocolate and drinks to go at checkout for our inconvenience. I would’ve preferred a discount since we didn’t get much sleep. A redeeming factor was definitely the complimentary breakfast. That was absolutely fabulous!

We arrived with our child in the evening. The hotel advertises valet parking, but when we got there, they told us that the person responsible had already left. We drove to the hotel’s parking, but it was completely full. We had to return to the reception, where a huge line was waiting we spent 25 minutes there with a tired child after a 7-hour trip. Finally, they gave us the address of a city parking lot 10 minutes away from the hotel. Five stars, really? In the evening another surprise awaited us: we were exhausted and hungry, but the hotel restaurant requires a reservation just to eat. The room had an empty fridge (only water inside), the shower pressure was extremely weak basically impossible to take a normal shower. To connect to Wi-Fi, you need to go through a registration process why such unnecessary complications in the 21st century? And every time you want to ask something, you have to wait in a long queue… Clearly, there is not enough staff. Definitely not the level of service you would expect from a 5-star hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel and a wonderful location… Is walking distance from a few different shops and restaurants. i heard really good things about a nearby Indian cuisine, but I digress the room was neat comfortable and the staff was very responsive. In fact I had a situation where I ran out of soap and upon letting the front desk know, they immediately sent some bottles up to me and also refilling my shower gel the following day the sauna here was another notable amenity that I would run back to on my next day. I will definitely recommend.

We did not know of this hotel so this was the first time here although we've been to Hamburg 3-4 times before. Great location, great service, great big room and great gym - great in all. Also the breakfast was very nice. Would def. recomment.

We had an amazing couples holiday staying at Steigenberger Hotel in Hamborg! |The staff was so friendly and welcoming, the room was large with very comfortable beds and a beautiful view of the canal. Breakfast was really good with so many delicious things to choose from. We will definitely come back to this hotel soon!

Good location and nice staff. Would recommend for families, but you should reserve an extra bed before arrival. They could only provide a crib for our four-year-old, which was too small.

Location is great – right in the centre and just opposite the S Bahn direct from the airport. 2 mins to the main shopping street leading to the town hall and lakes etc. 5 mins walks to the riverboats. |The room was perfect. It had everything. Uber comfortable bed. They could have pointed out the digital controls for the aircon and impressive room lighting, which once found are impressive. Décor is restrained, modern and luxurious but understated. Excellent breakfast buffet. The hotel is really quiet with no noise from outside or inside. |The only negatives; while there is a bar in the upmarket restaurant there is no ‘general’ bar area and the lobby is small for the size of hotel.

We booked this hotel for a few days as we vacationed in hamburg and these are my only critiques: First, even though the rooms were beautiful and the location of the hotel is 5 mins away from hamburg center, which is perfect, I'm sorry to say that the staff weren't the most helpful when it came to bestowing our luggages into and out of our car. As someone with plenty of luggage since i was traveling with my family, it was very difficult to carry all of them from the car into the rooms and from rooms into the car. All they did was put our luggages outside the hotel door when we checked out but turned a blind eye when it came to helping us put the bags in the car. We were the ones to carry 8+ big luggages into our car all because they weren't around to help. Keep in mind that we tried to call the reception from our room multiple times and got no answer for when we wanted someone to help us carry the bags from the 6th floor to the reception. Second, speaking of rooms, I also had the issue of one of the staff members barging in our room during our first day as a means to clean the room while we were sleeping. She knocked once and without bothering to hear a reply back she immediately opened the door. What kind of privacy is this! When it came to room service, cleaning wasn't the very best. I'd come back from the day to only find the bed being made not even in a good way and no tissues being replaced in the bathroom. Usually in hotels this great, the toiletries are replaced every day or every time you use one, but it hasn't been replaced in our time being there. It only deserves the rating for its location.

Yelp
Beautiful Hotel. Situated on the corner, but centrally located to many places. Very comfortable and high class. Snowing when I was here, that just leaves a soothing atmosphere. Holiday Market right next to hotel. Very pleasant and lovely. Love my room view.

Yelp
A very nice hotel. I have been there for three days. It is definitely worth it. The spa and the fitness area are for free, very clean and modern. The room is also very modern, clean and has nice furniture. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. So I would go there again. A Starbucks and the Alster lake, the harbor and the city center are in walking distance (also the very nice fish restaurant Casa Franco we have been..). The subway (station Rödingsmarkt) is just two minutes from the hotel. PS: they do charge 20 euros per night for parking.

Yelp
I spoke to management and they did absolutely nothing I feel so violated after paying $1100 to stay at this hotel. Terrible service they acted like they were doing us a favor. The shame because besides the hotel we had such a fabulous time!

Yelp
The rooms are a good size, but the furniture is out of style and makes you wonder how long it's been there. The bathrooms are amazing, with bathtubs, a huge well lit mirror and a wall separating the toilet and the rest of the bathroom. The breakfast is simply not worth the money, I recommend going out for breakfast/brunch instead of paying 28€ per breakfast. This being a 5 star hotel I would have expected the staff to be more friendly/service minded

Yelp
With hotel reviews I always try and work on a plus and minus list to get to a final rating and this one will be no different. Plus points. - friendly staff. - pretty central location not to far from airport (30 euros/30 mins away) and also near some decent bars and restaurants. - clean. - big rooms and beds. Negative points. - really really bad wi fi. - pretty dated looking furniture and fittings. - Breakfast not included and also expensive to buy separately. A fairly mixed picture, but these days you MUST have good wi fi, so I'm afraid it can be no more than an average 3. If that had been better then it would have been a 4.

Yelp
Great service, large rooms (especially for Hamburg standards), great breakfast. Beautiful hotel!

Yelp
exceptionally friendly and caring staff. Everyone is well dressed. Rooms are overpriced though and my pregnant wife and I had to spend the night in a smokers room... The breakfast is in the bistro is not large but offers varieties..

Yelp
Stayed in this hotel on business for just the one night. First time in Hamburg but the hotel was in a nice location. The hotel service was friendly, efficient and professional. The room was clean and a fairly decent size for a central city hotel. The hotel appeared to be geared more towards business users based on the fellow guests, but it would be equally good for pleasure. The Piano bar was fine with good service and a pleasant ambience. I didnt try the restaurant or breakfast. In all a nice, clean and reasonably priced hotel in what appears to be a interesting city with some great history based on my one night stay!

Yelp
OMG the internet is slooooooooooow. Anyone who says different is disingenuous or a paid reviewer. This is their free WiFi which is "256Mb/sec"...seriously that is what the front desk told me. Good connection though, but extremely slow. The hotel and room was very, very clean. The staff did their jobs very well, but not with a smile. The staff was not outgoing or very friendly. They never, never, ever said hello when anyone walked in, not even the bellman. It was a little too warm in the room for me. Opening the window for air made it too noisy to sleep well. I was just expecting more.

Yelp
This hotel is classified as 5 . It has an attractive frontage and staff are friendly and efficient. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the standard bedroom we had was spacious. I suppose as a typically modern hotel chain, it lacks some character, and to be honest if it did not have a Spa, perhaps it should not have a 5 rating. The toiletries provided were minimal. The towels were not changed, although this could be a 'green' decision re too much washing, or a way to save money. I personally like to have the option to make a cup of tea without resorting to room service at an extortionate rate. This might be a British habit! We did without the first morning but succumbed on the second... and two cups of tea and 4 small slices of toast arrived beautifully presented for 16 Euros. OK, I could have got dressed and gone to breakfast. Breakfast was not included in the price and as I knew of an excellent establishment which served a great breakfast for 7 Euros I went there. Would I recommend it? It depends what you want. I have no major complaints, but I probably would not want to rush back.

Yelp
did not stay in the hotel but tried their spa treatment. the treatment room was spacious and well decorated. relaxation room had a nice small water fall and tea service.
