Steinenschanze Charming City & Garden Hotel

Comfortable hotel in a convenient location. About a 10 minute walk to the train station, 5 to the city centre. There’s a bus across the street that goes to the train station (1 stop), where you can catch a 15 min bus ride to the airport. Good sleep quality with a comfortable bed and pillows, 2 comforters, blackout shutters and curtains. There’s a safe, Nespresso machine, and some space to hang clothes. Room 205 is very spacious. Great stay and friendly and helpful staff. There’s even a nice garden in the back.

Great, friendly, cheerful, and very helpful staff in all areas of hotel. Yummy treats at front desk, along with cozy lobby area to sit and have a drink or just relax after a day in Basel. Hotel is immaculate in all areas. Housekeeping does a wonderful job. Breakfast buffet is fantastic with such a variety of offerings, including a warm dish that changed daily. We had eggplant parmigiana one day, porridge with cherries another day, shakshuka another, curried lentil soup on yet another morning. Wow! Plus all kinds of breads, meats, cheeses, and many other things to choose from. And who doesn’t love a do it yourself espresso / coffee machine! |Bus 30 drops you off directly in front of hotel and will take you back to train station in five minutes, plus many other transport connections that make getting around very easy, especially as hotel provides card giving free public transport. A five minute walk to many restaurants and places to see nearby. |We had a tiny problem with our shower head and front desk had it replaced by the time we returned. Impressive! Don’t think we’ve ever had such a prompt and efficient response to an issue at a hotel before. Bravo! Cannot recommend this hotel more - we are sad to leave! Thank you 🤗!!!

Solid choice in Basel. The location is fantastic. It’s walkable to most things and within easy reach of transportation. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms on the street side are noisy. Additionally, we could hear our upstairs neighbors coughing all night and moving things around in their room. Earplugs or a white noise machine/app can help. I’d recommend opting for something on the garden side if possible. The beds and pillows are okay. The bed is too firm for me, but that might not be a problem for others. The room was clean and the record player was a fun touch! The breakfast had a nice variety. It was refreshing to see the amount of vegetables they offered! There is no mini bar or in room mineral water, but they have water dispensers on each floor and provide a carafe.

This is my family and Friends first time staying in Basel. And my family is very happy to stay at this hotel. The staffs, front counter, Alex and etc, they are great 👍🏻 and welcoming to us. The room is clean, the lounge area serve great coffee and tea. And the hotel is in fact is only 1 stop from Basel Railway station. Take bus 30.

Nice hotel. Convenient if you want to stay close to the train station. I booked this hotel as my base for going to other places/cities. You get what you pay. Toilet and shower are in the same room separated by little rooms, so you can hear all the noises coming from there. Although the shower was great! No courtesy water to drink. The room was quiet.

This hotel is like an oasis of peace, like home from home, thanks to its amazing staff, its magical garden, the common room (breakfast room) to have some nice time in the evening with friends. You can fill your water bottles at the stations in the corridors, you are offered a welcome drink and snacks at your arrival. We felt being taken care of, like guests of kind generous warm hosts. Our weekend reunion was just great. Thank you to the whole team!

This is a charming hotel in a great location. It's within walking distance of old town, restaurants, shopping, and the Basel HB train station. Room prices are reasonable and the staff was warm and helpful. The beds and pillows are comfortable and the room was spotless. The courtyard out back is a welcome retreat and the welcome drink in the evening is a lovely treat. I was happy to learn that my stay benefitted the charitable work of a non-profit organization. If visiting Basel again I will definitely stay here!

We walked up and thought this wasnt a good choice but once we walked through the door our minds were changed conpletely. Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Offer a free drink to each of us and chocolate and cookies. Carried our bags to our room. Room was spacious with a sitting room slong with bedroom They offer to fill our water bottkes wotg dosrlkjng water or still. Highly recommemd staying here. Great location

I would give this hotel a 10 if I could. Upon check in we were greeted with a complimentary drink of choice and the front staff was so nice and welcoming. They had coffee and tea in a downstairs lounge 24 hours and it opened up to a beautiful garden. Our stay came with a discount card to local attractions. And you are steps away from a popular street with many restaurants and entertainment choices. And you have only a 10 minute walk to Muenster Cathedral.

We stayed at Hotel Steinenschanze while in Basel for the Christmas Market. The rooms had everything we needed & then some....... Rooms large and basic; beds were comfy; the shower had nice water pressure & lots of hot water. we did not take advantage but were advised there were multiple english-speaking tv stations - very nice touch! Water carafes provided for free & water stations are located on every floor. Very nice alternative to the expensive bottled waters most hotels provide Super-close to the Christmas Market and easy access to the tram / train city transportation system. we were also provided street maps & they circled where the festivities were and other points of interest for us to explore Speaking of.....we were also provided a free day pass for their public transportation - how nice! Free wifi This hotel is repeat-worthy!

Look no further -- choose Hotel Steinschanze when visiting Basel. Why? Yes, it's conveniently located, nice atmosphere, good amenities, lovely garden and reasonable price. But their staff is really what makes the difference!! Thank you for making this such an enjoyable stay :)

Modern clean hotel. Bed comfortable with nice linen. Near popular shopping and dining area. Staff friendly and English speaking. Elevator. In Basel during unseasonably warm weather. No AC and only one window was openable. Not to blame hotel but it made an otherwise great stay unpleasant.
