Steinenschanze Charming City & Garden Hotel

The hotel staff is very welcoming, kind and helpful. The room is very well designed and furnished, it has everything you may need, even for a long stay. The bed is very comfortable, the shower is perfect, and the terrace very agreeable. The location is perfect, well connected to the airport and the train station. The hotel is at the same time very close to the city center and in a calm and cozy neighbourhood. I have felt at home, I will absolutely choose this hotel again when I will come back to Basel. Thank you for this great experience.

We liked everything about our stay at this small and independent hotel. The warm welcome from the friendly staff was a good sign that we'd chosen well. Eating breakfast, or having a leisurely drink in the idyllic garden, whilst hearing the birdsong - it was difficult to believe we were just minutes away from the busy centre of Basel. Having dug deep into our pockets for refreshments in the City (this is Switzerland!) the hotel price was certainly more appealing too. Comfort, peace and charm plus an excellent breakfast - we couldn't have wished for more.||Tip for guests arriving by train with luggage. The taxis at the station refused to take us as 'it was too close' and sent us walking in the wrong direction! As explained on the hotel's website, take a bus 30. It starts at the station and the stop is just by the exit. exit. The bus stops just outside the hotel - it's the first stop and takes about 3 minutes.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel close to the railway station 1 bus stop or tram stop away or a 10 to 15 minute walk away. |We were greeted by friendly staff and given a free travel card to use around town. Once we settled in we were offered a free drink and snack. The rooms are clean and functional. It is walking distance to the old town which is lovely. The staff were so helpful and gave us suggestions and directions to some fabulous restaurants. The breakfast in the hotel was excellent with a good selection of food. |I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again when I go back to Basel.

Very helpful staff. The hotel is well situated and provides a free city travel card. The trams in Basel are amazing. We asked for a quiet room and got one. We stayed in a heat wave but the room had an adequate fan. The breakfast was good. The only downside was that the room was slightly small as we had large suitcases for our river cruise and there was little room to store them. The hotel has lovely quiet gardens, a great place for breakfast or an evening drink.

A very briefly stopover at this charming hotel. The rooms are clean and functional. However, the stand out feature is the hotel staff. We were greeted by the delightful Elmira who should be the poster girl for Basel tourism! She was fabulous! Our brief encounters with the rest of the staff were similarly helpful and deserve full credit. I wish we'd been able to stay longer.

The hotel is in a great location, between the train station and the city center. It is also directly on a tram stop that goes to the train station without transfers. The hosts at the reception were very welcoming. We arrived early from our flight and had informed the hotel we would drop off our luggage and return at check-in time. The lady at reception had arranged for one room to be ready when we arrived and the second only 20 minutes later. That was something extra we were not expecting. The hotel provided a welcome drink for the first evening and offers wines and beers for purchase each evening. There is a lovely garden just off the breakfast area that is quite and a perfect place to enjoy those drinks. It has a soothing water feature also. The breakfast did not have quite as many options as some European hotels, but they also offer a smaller breakfast at a lower price which includes a couple of breads and either fruit/yogurt or an omelet. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

Great location just outside old town and easy bus/walk to SBB Station. Lovely staff. Quiet room. Very well equipped room. We booked for 3 people and were given two connected rooms with separate access to shared bathroom. Good quality and plentiful continental breakfast. Highly recommended.

We loved the hotel. I love the Ginkgo theme! We were welcomed with a glass of wine or local beer & some crisps. Room was small compared to North America, but had plenty of space for two of us, and was bigger than many hotel rooms in Europe. Bathroom was definitely small, but quite nice. Super clean. The duvet did not actually stretch the entire width of the bed, which was a bit weird. It had been a warm day and our room, 402, was south or west facing, so needed to be cooled down. Took some time to figure out the cooling system controls. The system was set to turn off every three hours, so had to get up twice in the middle of the night to turn it on again. The back garden was really lovely. We had a small breakfast, nothing special, the coffee was excellent. The staff at the hotel were superb.

I would give this hotel a 10 if I could. Upon check in we were greeted with a complimentary drink of choice and the front staff was so nice and welcoming. They had coffee and tea in a downstairs lounge 24 hours and it opened up to a beautiful garden. Our stay came with a discount card to local attractions. And you are steps away from a popular street with many restaurants and entertainment choices. And you have only a 10 minute walk to Muenster Cathedral.

We stayed at Hotel Steinenschanze while in Basel for the Christmas Market. The rooms had everything we needed & then some....... Rooms large and basic; beds were comfy; the shower had nice water pressure & lots of hot water. we did not take advantage but were advised there were multiple english-speaking tv stations - very nice touch! Water carafes provided for free & water stations are located on every floor. Very nice alternative to the expensive bottled waters most hotels provide Super-close to the Christmas Market and easy access to the tram / train city transportation system. we were also provided street maps & they circled where the festivities were and other points of interest for us to explore Speaking of.....we were also provided a free day pass for their public transportation - how nice! Free wifi This hotel is repeat-worthy!

Look no further -- choose Hotel Steinschanze when visiting Basel. Why? Yes, it's conveniently located, nice atmosphere, good amenities, lovely garden and reasonable price. But their staff is really what makes the difference!! Thank you for making this such an enjoyable stay :)

Modern clean hotel. Bed comfortable with nice linen. Near popular shopping and dining area. Staff friendly and English speaking. Elevator. In Basel during unseasonably warm weather. No AC and only one window was openable. Not to blame hotel but it made an otherwise great stay unpleasant.
